Alliss should have been retired in 2004 when he didn't realize that Mickelson won the Masters. All the great commentators knew when to go, McLaren, Maskell, Sir Peter. Sir Peter probably went on a couple of years too long.
Alliss just keeps making mistakes. He mixed up two of the Korean girls last week at the Women's Open regarding the two shot penalty. This morning when somebody said Leishman was Australian, he said "There's a Leishman in America as well" not realizing it was the same person. |

The BBC always keep loyal, I remember the old guy who used to do the racing commentry, I think it was the 2000 guinees jst before he finally retired, I was driving and had a big bet on, the commentar went something like this!
And there off As they leave the stalls is a beutiful sight with bright colours and the scenery, all twelve horses jostling for position and is the green colours just in front of the royal blue colours of one of the favourites! And with 2 furlongs to go its the green colours of erm from the blue colours of horse 1 and then in third its horse number 4 the green colours is horse number 8 then excitedly, horse number 4 getting challenged from 8 and they sweep pass the line. LONG PAUSE And the winner is horse number 7??????? |
By:
Yeah i know the guy you're talking about, think his name might have been Alan Partridge
By:
sir peter was great
By:
Peter is part of golf with more wit and humour than many . Indespensible. He has forgotten more about golf than all the knockers put together would know as a unit.
By:
a class act,
By:
Wouldn't be the same without him. You'll miss him when he's gone.
By:
Compare him to Ewan Murray and Bruce Critchley he is different class to those two ****ers imo.
By:
Way way past time. Commentary yesterday was close to gibberish.
By:
You need a bit of colour ans Alliss provides it.
I hate American coverage that just shows robot 1 holing a bird, then robot 2 holing a bird, then robot 3 holing a bird. |
By:
Nope he's a legend and brings a bit of levity to proceedings.
By:
Definitely has Dementia.
Always talking about the 60's. No idea about what's happening now. |

By:
Give me Alliss any time... always entertaining
By:
Nobilo seems good, he was an interesting player aswell, always thought he had a big win in him !
By:
His commentary on the surreal events with Mr Van De Velde on the 18th is a pinnacle moment in sports commentary ....different gravy.
By:
I didn't see that, any chance of giving me the Gist of it? Always felt for Van De Valde, a very nice man who had the putting touch of the gods, to come so close and then to be made to look foolish and have it taken away! Terrible. Nearly shed a tear when he just lost out on winning the French Open several years later in a play off, in the words of Caddyshack "There is no god"!

"Someone sit that man down and give him a brandy"
Never to be forgotten |
By:
if he retires you will probably end up with eddie izzard aka clare balding so leave it out

I used to be very anti Alliss due to all the bumbling mistakes that he makes. However, there is a certain and different charm to him. The problem is that he is surrounded by so people like Mark James who is now rivalling Bruce Critchley for most irritating commentator. His smugness and bias knows no bounds. Everytime we saw Tiger yesterday he had a dig at him in a very unprofessional way. It culminated in James not being quick enough to say he thought Tiger would miss the putt for birdie on 18. It was all a bit pathetic.
The problem with the BBC is that they simply don't watch enough golf throughout the year like Sky do. The same applies to the cameramen who have been absolutely shocking this week. |
By:
I like him.
What I don't like is the hourly hospital and deceased role call. I'm just slurping back a nice pernod when I hear him announce that Percy from Huntingdon has fallen down the stairs and broke his back and jack from ashridge has had his 3 rd heart attack and is no longer with us. Bit depressing. |
By:
James is ok,Torrance was patronising
By:
Can't stand ken brown whacked a ball past me a harpenden years back. No warning nothing at the time I was a 9 cap so not great but not hopeless His attitude was shocking....out my way or else!
By:
A National treasure, let's enjoy him while he's still here.
By:
Alliss had never heard of Jimmy Walker until this year. That shows a good knowledge of the game!
