Casey is way too up and down for me. He looked like he was coming good about 3/4's of the way through last year in Europe, but he hasn't done much since. When he wins he looks all class, but the gaps in between him popping up on the leaderboard would put me off backing him pre-event.
Doesn't look like there is much interest in this strangely named tournament. Not yet at least. |

Knox, Choi, Mackenzie and Haas so far. Shame there is little interest from the big boys, best course they use on the Florida swing by the length of the Flemington straight.

Another new sponsor for this weeks event on the PGA tour - the Valspar Championship although yet again we return to the Copperhead course at Innisbrook in Florida. Although we remain in Florida a lot of golfers will tell you it is not a typical course for the area with plenty of elevation changes and apparently it plays more like a Carolina course. Harris English is this weeks favourite and I couldn't put anyone off him as he won the Southern Amateur around the course in 2011 and has won twice on tour now but last year when he was 7th I tipped him at 150/1 - this week he is less than 20/1! I have gone for three picks who have won recently and one veteran past winner who has returned to a bit of form.
The Carolina connection is perfectly embodied in the shape of Carl Pettersson who went to college and lives there and has two wins in the Carolinas yet his first tour win was here and he has been 8th twice. The Swede changed his caddie for the Honda Classic ending a long relationship with Grant Berry and he made his first cut of the year and then was 4th last week in Puerto Rico. Interestingly the new man on the bag is his old looper Tommy Anderson who carried his clubs when he won here in 2005 - 0.3 ew 100/1 6 places. Sticking with the Swedish theme I will put up Jonas Blixt who like Pettersson went to college in the states and lives in Florida. He has won in each of the last two seasons so is a talented young player and he really caught my eye last week. Having opened with a 79 he closed with a 66 to finish 16th - an impressive final round. He was 38th here on his only start last year managing a pair of 69's and that start was sandwiched by three missed cuts either side so it wasn't a bad performance. 0.4 ew 80/1 6 places Scott Stallings is another proven winner on tour getting his third win at Torrey Pines at the end of January. He played here on a sponsors invite in 2011 and finished 3rd (and got his first ever professional hole in one) so has some fond memories of Innisbrook. I will say he is notoriously difficult to catch right but with his win ratio he is worth a bet this week at three figures 0.2 ew 100/1 Sang Moon Bae has only won the once on the PGA tour at the tough Byron Nelson event but has posted plenty of wins in Japan and South Korea. I do think he will eventually become a multiple winner on this tour and lost in a four man play-off here on his debut in 2012 0.25 ew 80/1 6 places |

What's the go with Justin Rose this week? His price jumped about 70% overnight, though it looks like he's still playing.
|
|
By:
Perhaps his interview yesterday has put people off, didn't sound to confident.
http://www.asapsports.com/show_interview.php?id=96862 Q. How are you physically right now and do you think you overdid it at the end of last year or maybe just everything going on with winning the U.S. Open? JUSTIN ROSE: Right now I'm doing pretty well, not a hundred percent but I would say I'm at least 95 percent there physically for golf. Couple things I can't do that I need to do physically but golf swing-wise, I feel like my motor pattern is where I need it to be and feeling strong again and getting my ball speed and clubhead speed back to where it should be. |

Thanks BHLL. I thought the same thing but it's in the eye of the beholder I suppose, because I don't think that reads too bad. Not bad enough to push his price from 27s to 46s at least.
The layer is more than likely to have the last laugh - winning golf tournaments is hard even when you're 100%. |
|
By:
That interview's hardly enough to justify the drift on it's own, but you wonder if others have slightly more information. Given the wear and tear these guys are under I imagine most are 95% at best any given week.

nice start from three sticks, short on a 10footer

Tough going again today. Anyone playing the Honda-Doral-Valspar stretch will have earned a lie down.

Why do commentators always feel the need to keep saying the same things over and over again???
Darren Clarke has lost loads of weight don't you know! ![]() |

Solid start. Taken stake out of Every and moved to Perez. How good is this course? Severely under rated.
|
|
By:
Good thing about this course is it seems tough year in year out without being tricked up, gimmicks tacked on, par 5s changed to par 4s, dodgy setups or tees pushed further and further back, and all the other artificial stuff some tracks come up with to toughen things up when the tour comes to town.

I would definitely subscribe to Sky Sports if it wasn't for all the adverts and the messing about in the studio etc.

What does Garrigus do to deserve these very short prices early on? Just over 6-1 with more than 36 to go - wow not for me!
|
|
By:
Looks like the coverage went off just in time for him to hit a 210 yard approach from out of the forest to 14 feet, would've kinda liked to see that.
Been impressive so far but if the guy can blow a 3 shot lead with 1 to play wouldn't be too keen to back him with 38 to play. |
|
By:
Wouldn't back him, but the 3 shot lead and the playoff appearance 2 years back is reason enough for him to single figures. Maybe a little low but not too far off the mark.

i think im gonna go with furyk from here. Hello everybody!

It's amazing how often these guys have a perfect line of sight with no obstructions playing out of the trees. If it was me, I would be dead behind the centre of the tree and ave to manufacture a 10 metre shot backwards

Should be an interesting weekend here, nice weather tomorrow so if Saturday setup is generous should see some good scores and a few charges from the pack. Then Sunday looks to be very windy so it could be hanging on for grim death. Pretty much exactly how you'd want a weekend to shape up.

I did manage to do a reverse forum curse on Furyk to get a 59 while you were away meng
