No Woods, Mickleson or Scott and Rose doubtful to play leaves it wide open to start with. Matchplay is a bit of a lottery anyway.
Any of the 64 who tee it up could win it. |

matchplay format suits some players more than others....poulter being obvios eg.............he made semis last year despite not having played a tourny in seven weeks...........this time round has played 3/4 including memoriall this week......but problem with poults is his match play record is factored into his price will probably go off 10/12 to 1.......i have two players and will be shocked if neither makes final will post after draw............love this format and in past has been super lucky for me.......dont buy this format is a lottery bulls**t
only if u lose ur out |

12/1 for Poulter? Not a chance.

Does anyone know what time the brackets are announced? I assumed when first rd draw was made, that the whole format would have been too.

To a degree I agree with Mighty Whites - looks wide open this year.
Can't see the 38s on Poulter lasting. Even with indifferent stroke play form he's always well backed in match play events. Think he'll go off much closer to 30s myself. |
|
By:
Anyone can beat anyone, but a terrible draw nonetheless for Rory and Mahan. Some big competition in their sections of their brackets. Kuchar and Webb of those that went well last year have fallen into a couple of very nice pockets.

Current form horses are Bubba and Dustin , both playing well . But they are in the same bracket .
Rory is fav , but where will his fiancee be this week ? Inside the ropes or not ? Sneaking feeling for Sergio . |

Where is he 50s peejay?? 27 here.
Donald i like. Great record here and proven matchplay performer with superb Ryder cup record. Probably the weakest section of the draw with 6 Euro Tour players. 60s is more than fair. Taken a bit. |

will this tourney be in comp

Ok, so I am a big Spieth fan, but he is 28 and Kuchar 32
Am I supposed to believe Spieth will be going fave against 15-3 Kuchar if they meet up in rd 3? |

It is a very hard event to call this one due to the volatility of 18 hole matchplay.
McIlroy looks to be in the toughest bracket for me. Will enjoy the wednesday shoot out before diving in. |
|
By:
Of course over 18 holes you can get some upsets, but in this format there are players that really are suited better to matchplay than others. Aside from Woods making the final here 4 times, here are the others to get to multiple finals in the event:
Paul Casey Geoff Ogilvy David Toms Davis Love III Hunter Mahan |

Most interesting match of the first round arguably the first one out (Poulter v Fowler), TV folk will be annoyed.
Also, according to TV schedule coverage starts at 5pm UK time on Sunday, is that right? Semis are due to start at 2.15 and final 7.15 so that schedule would mean missing most of the semis then a big empty gap to kill before the final. Seems odd. |
|
By:
Geoff Ogilvy really fallen of the golfing world.
Only Mahan of those teeing it up this week. |
|
By:
Yeah and crazy to think it was just a few years ago with Casey going back to back finals.

Bosman Sky usually show every minute of the weekend action. Maybe a red button thing to start with.
Sky start at 5pm on Wednesday 10am US time so they should get some of the Fowler/Poulter match if it is still going. Fowler is struggling badly at the moment. He needs to enjoy this event it may be his last WGC for a while. |

It's probably a good thing Poulter v Fowler is on before TV cos even though neither is in great form we'd see little of anything else I suspect, RIckie's still their darling despite going a bit rubbish.
I guess maybe there will be red button on Sunday, they've certainly had full coverage in the past but nothing earlier listed for the US either, unless Sky have a special agreement for extra coverage. |

4 against the field. Simpson, Snedeker, Sergio and Rory. Make it 5 and add Harris.

Has paddy got specials anybody. The shareprice is only staggering this while and I think they could do with a big turnover here.
|
|
By:
@bustino.... you could consider putting in an order for your price on your Masters selection with some of the dosh you won at the weekend. Plenty of time to get matched.

Scott Piercy probably isn't at the forefront of most peoples thoughts this week but I have selected him as I believe he is a decent matchplay golfer. The last four years at Dove Mountain we have seen one common trait amongst winners and that was the experience to play the year before and win at least two matches - so that certainly narrows the field down. Piercy played well last year beating Paul Lawrie 4&3 before trouncing Luke Donald 7&6, he lost his next match one up to Steve Stricker. He is a Las Vegas native who plays his best golf in the desert and has an excelent record in the Phoenix Open played in Arizona - with finishes of 3/6/8/15/15 - his 15th the other week included three rounds of 67. If you look back at his career you will see he won the Ultimate Challenge in 2007 - in the winner take all final he birdied five of the last six holes to claim the $2m prize stating last year “At the time, when I was dead broke, there was probably a lot more stress than there is now,” Last weeks closing 83 hasn't gone un-noticed but I think by Sunday he had lost all interest - expect a different game face this week when he faces Justin Rose in the first round as he has a poor record and is coming back from injury. 0.3 ew 150/1

Mcilroy looks to be flyin for me and 12/1 is the best you going to get on him all year. looks to be back to his best. Hunter Mahan as my other bet, won it 2 years ago, beaten in final last year...GET ON!!!

Yes TMM..From memory he was well on course to win one of those Phoenix open's but unluckily stuck his ball in the back of a cactus on 13 ( I think?)and make double on the par 5 there. I made a note of him that day for a desert tourney, tho it's not quite happened yet...maybe this week.?
