THE 2014 BETFAIR GOLF COMPETITION
Well done to scarlet for an excellent win in the 2013 comp just holding off Barracuda69 and BJG in the final stage. The 2014 competition starts on 9th January and anyone who wishes to enter should put their name down on this thread. The rules follow this post and also the schedule of events follow too. Prize money cannot be determined at this stage. There will be some cash prizes for sure but until Betfair respond to my request for 2014 sponsorship, I cannot be specific about the prizes and the value of such. They did not sponsor the comp in 2013 so we should expect the same in 2014. Shame though as i know many of you bet on your selections and this has to have a financial implication for Betfair. Please feel free to lobby Betfair about this by contacting them direct if you wish. Nevertheless, the cash is secondary to the kudos of winning one of the longest and most difficult comps to win on Betfair !!!
Once I know the number of entrants I will announce the cut off numbers going forwards into the 2nd stage and the 3rd stage. The 17 prequaifiers will automatically be entered in the 2nd stage whether or not they compete in the first stage and regardless of where they finish if they do. Pre-qualifiers will be assigned the letters PQ in the first stage if they enter and their positions do not count towards the cut off numbers. However, they can win the prize (If there is one) for the first stage leader after week 12. There was no prize for this in 2013 due to lack of BF sponsorship.
I hope to see many of you back from last year and a few new ones too. Just enter your name on this thread and by the Monday prior to the first scoring tournament (9th Jan 2014) I will allocate the group you should post in. Anyone posting after this date will be given a group to post in by default so no one should have an excuse for not entering.
I reserve the right to change the scoring on weeks where the standard scoring system is meaningless such as some of the events last year where only a small number or players were entered. I also reserve the right to add in tournaments where there are currently TBA’s in the schedule and also on week 47 but have nothing scheduled in 2014 yet.
Rules are the same... there are many suggestions each year for changes but the comp has been running for a number of years now with few changes and I see no difference to this year. Good luck all who enter and let the battle commence !!!

I'd be more than happy to pay an entrance fee to raise some prize money but I know that's difficult to arrange.
Maybe a golf equipment company like American golf would put up some prize money or vouchers.

After being inundated with begging Emails, I have decided to ignore them all, and will gladly be taking up my rightful position in this competition !

for phase 1 you only hav to be top in your group and not worry about the other groups?
xmoneyx the groups are simply for easier admin and a bit of fun... the overall list determines the qualifiers

I'll give it another go and I second the fact that the least Betfair could do is throw a few quid towards the prize, because as you rightly state, most of us do bet on our selections and surely anything that increases interest and volume on the market is worth a few quid.
It would certainly be very targeted marketing and isn't that what any marketing spend should be aimed at!!

It was supposed to be this week. But I think as it is quite late now and some people may not post their selections in time it would be better to start next week. Max said he would have his threads up on Monday.

y a section which can be contacted at forum@betfair.com. He, Chris, is going to mention our need for sponsorship and recommends as many members as possible to email the foru spoke to Chris who is a supervisor on the helpdesk. Spoke about sponsorship. He is aware that there IS a fund that is controlled by a section that can be contacted by email at forum@betfair .com and he will email them to pass on my view plus he recommends that all interested golf enthusiasts who may be interested. to send individual emails requesting some sponsorship but it needs done before kick off of the 1st competition. He is correct when he said there is power in numbers and it is worth a try.
