I have been looking forward to this event for some time.... simply because I am a huge fan of Shane Lowry and am going to stick my neck out and pick him as my NAP of the week to win here. Everything is about right for him down there in Portugal and I know he has been holidaying a bit down there recently and got some nice quiet looks at the course set up. He is a popular guy in those parts.

Both the Presidents Cup and the Seve Trophy were excellent for true golf fans .  Anyone who did not enjoy the courses, the play,  and the friendly  competitive attitude associated with both events is sad .

Love Portugal myself toberaheena , started going there about 12 years ago and yearly ( at least once ) until 2007 . Unfortunately we were in Pria De Luz the day the wee girl disappeared and my family have found alternatives for holiday purposes . Still a big supporter of Portugal though , prefer it to most parts of Spain  , one of my sons is going to Girona tomorrow ( cycling  break ) and we love that northern part of Spain . I have an open invite to Portugal though from my wifes cousin who spends 4 months a year there in a golf related apartment . Next year maybe DV .

Surprised Shane Lowry was not involved in Seve Trophy , thought he was qualified to participate but possibly not .  He played well in the Dunhill , thought he was going to win it at one stage .  He is due one .  Have not looked at entries for this week yet , hard to pick winners at the 72 hole gigs this year , Seve and Presidents were a lot easier .  Good luck .

Over the 4 days the Seve Trophy thread managed 11 posts but fair play the Presidents got 35.

Keyboard warriors are not the only criteria frames .

One of Irelands best  ever footballers ever retired last Thursday , not a single post on the Irish forum .  Does that diminish him , not in my book  , it diminishes the forum .

Jamie Donaldson will be getting my cash, playing well recently and likes these set ups, top 10 here last year also, not liking price though, but I never do really, any week.Tongue Out GL.

I watched some of the Seve Fri,Sat.They mentioned 100k each to the winning team and 75k each just for turning up.No wonder it was friendly.Play 175k to the winners and FA to the losers ,might spice it up a bit.Seve loved a friendly.I imagine Lowry turned down the chance to play along with many others.

How many of the 20 do we expect in the next RC ,I'm after a generous price for none.

Just had a look at prices to make the team ,Lowry 10/1 in a place seems fair.McGinley might give him a pick should he go close. That's assuming a pick counts.
6 of the Seve players are under 5/1 to qualify but all odds against.Makes none a massive price.

Makes you wonder frames about the economics of golf if a player turns down 75k for turning up . Have posted elsewhere about a certain player looking for 80k for a days "appearance" some years back ( locally) . Bonkers money , just wonder who pays it ? And 500k a day guarantee for a certain player is absolutely criminal no matter which way you cut it .

Re Seve , a friend ran one of the big events locally when Seve was emerging .  He had been contracted to appear , "guaranteed" 10k back then . But then he went and won the Masters . Our friend approached him shortly afterwith a certain amount of trepidation (given Seve's reputation) , expecting a big hike in the ante for appearance in 3 months time .  Seve just smiled , and said "see you in summer , 10k , yes ? " ---  "But next year it will cost you more " . Fair play to Seve , he was worth it !

Lowry initially thought he was playing last week but was only 1st reserve in the end. Look for Shane on his Facebook page. One of the better ones in golf.

Luiten if he keeps his upward curve might sneak in next year, couldn't have any of the rest to qualify tbh.

Surprised he was not in front of a couple who played , Khan especially . Sounds like he wanted to play , and he is better than Khan , might have influenced the result , Khan didn't  . Particularly injured .

I thought that the Seve Trophy was brilliant viewing. Went down to the wire. Each to their own I guess, but I'm not sure why people watch it if they're not enjoying it.

Portugal...

Aguilar 100/1 E/W. Having a great season, and has decent form here.
Quesne 66/1E/W. No reason to see why he can't continue his great run after a week off.
Pepperell  200/1 E/W. Big price. The kid will win. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Kieffer  200/1 E/W. Ditto.

Hoping that Chris Paisley gets in.

Few other orders in, waiting for a bite.

For anyone who works in play during the regular tour events then last week probably wasn't for them from a betting point of view.

Personally im not a great fan of 'team' golf.

It will hopefully be nice weather in Iberia this week. Getting fed up a little with all the weather interruptions in the States. Looking at the entries again, there are so many local entries that it will not surprise me to see a rookie lead after 1st round. Just a matter of sticking a pin in the paper ( a bit like the way we picked our Grand National bets when we were children ). Having €2 on all the 1000/1 shots and a chance to trade 2 or 3, maybe more. Lowry is a very tight price at present. Maybe Paddy will come up with something.

I bet Shane Lowry at the Dunhill and followed him the final round, he went birdie, eagle, birdie to lead and then he got a bit nervy, he got too quick and threw in a couple of bogeys.
No doubt he's a good player but he looks too short this week. Kaymer's in good form, he's a class above most of these guys, 14/1 could look excellent value come Sunday

I had an awful lot of names written down for this weeks Portuguese Masters and have had to leave a few out although I have had small savers on Quiros, Webster and Pepperell (who won the Portuguese amateur and should have psoitive vibes this week) I have gone for five outright bets
Tom Lewis - avid readers will have noted I have seen his game coming around for a while and got on at stupid prices on Betfair in the Alfred Dunhill Links when he was 3rd. Obviously as a past winner here his price has been slashed accordingly but even at the early 66/1 he was worth a decent wager 0.5 ew
I tipped Gregory Havret for this two years ago at 175/1 when 3rd having spotted his affinity for Arnold Palmer courses. This time round his odds are a lot lower as he has had some really good finishes of late 0.3 ew 66/1
Talking of Arnold Palmer courses Hennie Otto also has a fine record on them including winning at Tolcinasco and he has been very consistent here in the past. He has been in fine form most of the summer and when he hasn't missed the cut he has been hanging around the top of the leaderboard without really seeing things through. At a three figure price he is worth having onside this week 0.25 ew 100/1
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Felipe Aguilar as whenever I pick him he plays pretty poorly but one day I will catch him right! He has a great top five strike rate including two starts ago when 4th in Italy and considering he was 3rd here two years ago he has to go in the staking plan 0.2 ew 90/1
Ricardo Santos knows this course like the back of his hand but it wasn't until last year he showed he could play it in competition when 16th. He had a similar level of performance in Madeira which he won last year. Looking at his results he seems to learn from experience and needs certain courses to bring out the best in him hence he was a pick in China earlier this year when 5th @ 100/1. I really was rather surprised to see a 150/1 price tag this week despite his poor recent form 0.25 ew

My current book looks like this. Please note that my system here is based on market fluctuations only. Does not mean I think the player will win. Just hoping for a few days with one interesting runner among my team. One exception is Shane. I am holding out for a little drift before play. Anybody got his tee time for tomorrow.

Christian Cevaer    ... got ye with that one ..  lol   + €5,640.14

Joost Luiten   + €346.44

Manasserro     + €642.14      messed up here ... took an early low price

Alvaro Quiros  + €44.14    free bet

The Field      - €47.86                                  GOOD LUCK ALL.

Just gone for the 2 in this...

Steve Webster - After a good start to this season, totally lost his way but good stats in his last couple of events and a second place finish in his penultimate start suggests to me that he could bookend his season with a strong finish to it.Has also won round this course and just plays well in Portugal in general.Taken the 20 for a top 5 finish on here along with what I consider a generous 110 win only.

Scott Jamieson - Another guy that considering his hot start to the season, including a first tour win down in South Africa, really hasn't kicked on as expected.Has shown some decent form his last couple of starts though and a 12th place finish here last year is encouraging.Taken the 27 on here for a top 5 finish along with a more than fair 150 win only.

Good luck

toberaheena, I am on the crest of the greatest slump ever.  Microsoft updated my computers overnight, lost 14 days work on various spreadsheets.  Very unhappy bunny.  Six small bets, Noren, Fisher, Rock, Pepperell (Backed at 200. laid at 80), Lowry, and Fleetwood.  Haven't even looked at the US golf yet.  Good luck with yours.
