I have done an unusual play for me. Having already had a nice bet at 80,s on Haas, I have backed the top 6 players in the Betfair market without any reason other than I am pretty certain we will not have a winner at 100,s or bigger. Not a big outlay but hope that I can latch on to the winner at some point and trade accordingly. No rocket science. Just an experiment. @ Quince.... cell phone giving me a bit of bother. Apologies for not getting back to you. Heres hoping for a more interesting tournament than we had last week. Best of luck to everybody and enjoy the golf. Would be brilliant to get a US V Rest of the World finish coming up the 72nd on Sunday. Funny feeling Rory might start playing solid golf again. Too much to ask him to win at present but golf sort of needs someone to rival Tiger.

And nearly forgot to wish Shane Lowry a decent weekend. Making the cut would be good to start the week. This guy has an amazing talent. Just needs to believe.

I always view the US PGA as the poor cousin of all the Majors, the one I look forward to the least, however, this years event at Oak Hill in New York, should prove to be a wonderful event.

This is a true test of golf and if the forecast rain stays away, then expect anyone under par to be finishing inside the top 5. Its a little known fact that there have been over 1000 players who have competed in events at Oak Hill with only six finishing under par, you have been warned.

So what is the profile we are looking for as a potential winner ? For my money its a street fighter, a Jack Russell, a battler, someone who grind out the pars under the most searching of tests.

There will be many who look to Tiger after an impressive fifth win of the season last week at Firestone. He is truly remarkable at delivering multiple wins at tracks he favours. Believe me when I tell you, he wont be winning here.

Besides, Tiger has never won any event on a Donald Ross designed golf course, how is that for a killer fact ??

My idea of the winner for the last couple of weeks has been Zach Johnson. The former Masters winner has struck a rich vein of form in recent weeks, he followed his runner up to Jordon Speith with a super showing in the Open at Muirfield and if the putter had been hotter, he may have snatched the spoils from Lefty.

Johnson isnt long, but length isnt the key factor here, accuracy and determination are and my man has both in abundance. He is around 33/1 with conventional bookmakers but you can still take 50 with Betfair on the exchange.

Ian Poulter polarizes opinion but one thing is for sure, he is a big time player and tough courses suit both his game and his character. It would be fitting if the man who came through the PGA ranks here in the UK, starting out as a pro shop assistant , can make his first Major, the US PGA, the pinnacle for all PGA professionals. He is fresh from a vintage Poulter charge at The Open and he likes the course her in New York, I fancy he will contend and will be in the mix come Sunday. At 80 with Betfair he represents some real value.

Was I the only person in the world to back YE Yang when he took down the Tiger ? Maybe ! Perhaps this year we may see a repeat from another golfer from the Far East, this time in the shape of Hideki Matsuyama. The young Japanese superstar looks a real talent and appears to have a temperament to match. He is accurate from the tee and strong with his irons and although its perhaps early in his career to expect a Major, I rather fancy he might make the frame at least this week. His current Betfair price of 130 looks about right to me.

My two outsiders for the week are; Manny Manassero at 210 and David Lingmerth at a massive 320. We all know that the former can win anywhere and although he is yet to deliver on US soil, he has the pedigree of a Major winner. Lingmerth has crept into the reckoning several times this season and we very impressed with him at the Players Championship where he all but won the event. He looks calm and collected as most Swedes are and I fancy he may ruffle a few feathers this week.

For my sideshow bets I will be going large on a hole in one here at Oak Hill, I will even predict that the sixth hole will be the location to deliver us some easy pickings.

A final word for Matt Jones, the young Australian who plays on the US Tour is said to have found some real consistency in practice so he might be worth a wee interest at an obscene 440

My answer would be ..not yet..... and my basis for this is that if you look at oddschecker........ all the 5.5 that is available from the vast majority is in the pink colour that indicates support is drifting. Somebody will take the bull by the horns tomorrow morning and offer that 5/1. My opinion only..... a possible problem here is that if it one of the bigger firms, they will have it as a special in their shops for a specific time. I would always ring my local independent bookie and ask for a price. There are a few real bookies left out there.

It would be a master stroke for Betfair to go the 5,s on Sportsbook sp odds. Take on those High Street cowboys.

Just added Lynn at 990 had a good year. There is some real value on very good players who can win at 800s

Is it me or do the odds of a lot of good players really stand out in this tournament.

Because of this I've spent far more than I usually do, and backed a lot more players.

I need to turn my computer off so I don't start adding any more to my lengthy list!

(Backed 31 so far, some backed more than once due to the psychology of their odds increasing!)

Koepka was 200s for The Open now 900s for US PGA..
Uihlen if he was in The Open he probably would be around 200s as well now 900s
Casey at 270s and Blixt at 550s looks quite big as well

My team is Bradley 66s ew, Kaymer 70s ew, Haas, 66s ew and Luiten 250ew (680 on BF).

Also had a late dabble on Brook Koepka at 900+, natural fade and says course suits his eye. Was the name on everyone's lips a month ago and went off at Open between 200-300 so 900s back in US seems huge.

And with doubts , Snedeker.

It's a strange book and one I have really enjoyed. The best value of the year, some of the real form players and winners from this year have been very big odds indeed.

I was fuming when he went on to win the tournament. (Shell Houston Open).

Weather watch for round one: The threat of rain during the first round of the PGA Championship is increasing.

The skies are basically cloudy now with an 80 percent chance of rain overnight. Wind gusts will reach 25 mph later this afternoon.

Some showers may linger into the morning and then appear likely to redevelop Thursday afternoon as the front stalls south of Rochester. So the possibility of rain on Thursday has now increased to 60 percent and it moderates to 30 percent on Friday.

Temperatures on Thursday will top out at 82 and 79 on Friday.

Drier, cooler air is expected on the weekend with temperatures topping out in the mid-70s. The wind will be 8-14 mph range on Thursday then change to 5-10 mph on Friday and 10-15 on the weekend.

Early starters to get the best of it perhaps, unless round 1 gets suspended and late starters finish Fri morn but not sure that will be required.

Not exactly sparkling myself, sheppy123.  Fancied a horse at Pontefract as a back to lay.  It needed rain, no rain, took 4.7, laid some at 3, it touched 1.5 and I sat looking at the screen and wouldn't submit lay @ 1.71.  Totally mesmerised.

My top 10 Westy bet not fully matched and price come in so cancelled remaining and whacked it on Thompson. 22s for top 10 on a tough course is good value for this fella, should be in his element.

Colldogg - if ur not confident add some more reliable runners you fancy. You have your value long shots, always good to have some proven performers backing them up.

This is the problem Rhino, usually have strong fancies for at least a couple of the proven guys but not got a strong feeling about any this week. I would go for Rose but he's not played a lot of golf lately and wondering if he's still riding the wave from his US Open triumph.

Hunter Mahan has all the stats for this course and was in good form before his baby came along so thinking with not a lot of practice the last week, the baby could have turned his brain to mush.

So I'm thinking the best option to do is wait until after round 1 and see which of the guys are within striking distance.
