Main fancy is Adam Scott. EW 6 places at 28/1. Has a solid masters record.

i usually have to ponder long and hard for this event but this year the three who just jump off the page are
tiger woods keegan bradley dustin johnson |

Time for Sergio to don the green jacket and follow in the footsteps of Seve and Olly, 12th last year and been in great form for past six months, also putting much better than last few years, at 45/1 he must be backed.
By:
at 45/1 he must be backed.
Why 'must'? |
By:
Mickelson for me. Can see him winning one more Masters at least before he's finished, fancy him to take it this year
By:
i dont mean he must be backed by everyone, i mean he must be backed by me at that price, im sure you have your own opinions.

Got Keegan Bradley weeks ago at 50's so happy with that, have also took Adam Scott - my two main chances. Outsiders I have had small amounts on Scott Piercy,Dufner and KJ Choi.

oops wrong thread!!

Four that I can see in a green jacket, all winners and all playing well are
Oosthuizen Bradley Simpson Haas I'm going to do the first two on VC each way (steaks returned if Tiger or Rory win) and the last two on Paddy Power (6 places). |
By:
I am going for an outsiders strategy and am hoping for a 'surprise winner', I am backing small stakes on about 30 outsiders.
In order of my stakes (highest first) this is my top 20: Bernhard Langer David Lynn Gonzalo Fdez-Castano Brian Gay Kevin Streelman Ryo Ishikawa Martin Laird Thaworn Wiratchant Jamie Donaldson Stewart Cink Peter Hanson Hiroyuki Fujita Paul Lawrie Michael Thompson Ben Curtis Ernie Els Bo Van Pelt Carl Pettersson Scott Piercy Branden Grace |
By:
bernhard langer nowbthat would be a surprise winner

Langer carries a replacement hip in is bag does he not

yes Mighty, a bit embarrassed by that, but these are my reasons:
His stats on the senior tour are: Driving Distance: 282.5 yds Driving Accuracy 75.71% Greens in Regulation 74.81 Putts per round 27.87 This year He has played 5 times, and has won once, finished second twice, third once and his only non top 3 results was 20th. Obviously he knows his way around Augusta, and although he has missed the cut in his last 5 appearances, his opening rounds in his last 3 appearances have been 72, 71, 70. So i am hoping for a strong first round, then I will hedge out and hope for the impossible. He wouldn't be the first senior to compete in a major and is only 2 years older than Fred Couples who he is playing just as well as. Its a a bit of a ridiculous dream and I am not expecting anything, so will be a bonus if he does well. |
By:
why is branden grace 340?
By:
Interesting comparison on those Langer stats: he's played the same number of rounds as Poulter has on the PGA tour, and beats him in every statistical category, including driving distance. Different standard of course, obviously, but as far as 1000 shots go it's not that barmy.

Just checked the weather out guys, lots of rain forecast for the first 2 days? Does this help the bombers?
Or is it a great leveler? http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/4180531 |
By:
two fortysomethings for me:
Big Phil & Pod. both W&Pl |
By:
Yeah, the forecast for the first two days is awful. Plenty of electricity in with the rain so could be a very frustrating start to the tournament. I reckon 54 holes at best- can't see them bothering to go to Monday with the Heritage the next week.
By:
True, all be mad to get to The Heritage.
By:
Problem is, although it favours the bombers by slowing the fairways, it also puts a greater premium on finding the fairway, so you need a balance of both. Maybe worth having a look at total driving as the key stat, particularly as more receptive / slow greens could in theory put less emphasis on Putting / Scrambling stats.
http://www.pgatour.com/content/pgatour/stats/stat.129.html Some interesting names at the top and bottom: Bradley stands out, wouldn't touch Kuchar with a bargepole, Phil not looking too hot. |
By:
remember last time everyone said conditions made it a bomber course and zach won---played every par 5 in three shots
By:
agree TBosman.
Xmoeyx, I think Brandon Grace is just having a bad run of form, and his GIR is particularly poor. I am guessing that's why his odds have been slowly rising all year. |
By:
Kevin Streelman stands out, at a lumpy old price.
I'm on. I know it's his first time here, which is a big negative, but at his current price, gotta be worth a few. |
By:
George Coetzee - like his game & temperament.
Robert Garrigus - like his 300+ odds. Roughies who hit it long, rested & if they win...I will have a long rest. |
By:
You need to be able to draw the ball round here, and big George can't do it.
I looked at him, but that fact put me off. Good luck with him, though. |
By:
thx mersontheperson
will hav a e/w dabble 340 --hope branden finds the mojo |

no chance the Masters will be decided over 54 holes whatever the weather
By:
I bow to your superior knowledge, Hans. You are correct, and I am mistaken.
Not the first time, and won't be the last. Not sure how he got in.. Maybe his Tour Championship finish ? Still thinks he's a decent price, though. |
By:
Only knew through checking a few of the big priced players.
Agree he is by far the best price of the rags. |
By:
What about Paul Lawrie at 520?
can't stand the sour faced man, but I reckon he is tremendous value. |
By:
Thanks Maggot for highlighting the fact George Coetzee cant draw the ball. Forgive my ignorance but who in the Masters field in your opinion are the most capable @ drawing the ball. I have been reading and listening about the Masters and the ability to draw the ball is a advantage at Augusta your input would be very much appreciated.

OURDAVE.
I wouldn't really know about who is the best at drawing the ball, but it is very significant that left handers have a great record round here. Kaymer cannot draw it, hence is pretty hopeless at Augusta. Rory plays a nice draw. Zach Johnson also plays a natural draw. I'm certainly no expert, and I'm sure that there are many more on here that can answer your question far better than I can. I do know, however that George struggles with a draw. |
By:
The "drawing the ball" point is well known when it comes to Augusta, but I'm not su sure if it's that important.
As we all know Tiger likes to play with a fade and his record here isn't to bad... |
By:
Actually drawing the ball helps in certain holes but so does fading the ball in certain holes.
Left handers who fade the ball does well and somewhat better than the right handers drawing the ball on certain holes. There is no way The Master will finish on 54 holes. If it goes to Monday finish so be it and no golfers will care one bit about the Heritage. |
