This weeks Dubai Desert Classic proved quite a challenge for pinning down trends for past winners - the most obvious is that the last three winners have been Spanish which seems a bit vague to say the least! Most recent winners have been top 20 on the course the year before although I have concentrated for my main pick on the fact that winners seem to have a general affinity for playing desert golf with plenty of top ten finishes in that neck of the woods. One thing that does seem important is course experience with every winner playing at least twice and players in their 20's have a good record of late. There does seem to be a very big tie in with course form from the Oceanico Victoria course in Portugal. There have been six winners so far of the Portuguese Masters - Quiros and Green have also both won this event, Lee Westwood has somehow managed not to win in Dubai but has been second twice, Cabrera-Bello was 2nd in Portugal and won here so I think that is too much of a coincidence to avoid. Interestingly Greens other European win was at Fontana - a course that Cabrera-Bello also won on. I have gone this week for the three other winners at Oceanico Victoria.
Shane Lowry was the latest winner of that event in October and has had the pre-requisite two starts here at the Emirates course - not a lot to show with a mc/66 but he was the best putter here last year. Like all the past winners he has some pretty good desert pedigree with a 4th in Abu Dhabi and an 8th at the World Golf Championships. I will have to overlook his last performance as a one off but it has given him time for plenty of practice in Dubai for the last ten days and he seems happy with his game plus he has what maybe a favourable draw - 0.5 ew 66/1
Tom Lewis beat Cabrera-Bello in 2011 in Portugal but has done the square root of diddly squat since. Maybe he won too soon in his pro career but he has come out in slightly better form in 2013 with two out of two cuts made and a new man on the bag as Colin Byrne has gone to work for Ernie Els. He has made both cuts here including as an amateur and could almost be said to have a similar profile to 2009 winner Rory - worth a small risk 0.1 ew 225/1
Steve Webster won the inaugural Portuguese Masters but has failed to win again since but he is in superb form at the moment. He is striking the ball beautifully and has been 1st,2nd.2nd and 1st for GIR in his last four starts - all he needs is a few more putts to drop. The last time he was playing that consistently well was before he won in Italy. He doesn't have a great desert pedigree apart from last weeks 4th in Qatar but he was 4th at the cut here two years ago before fading and spends much of his time training in Dubai. He could well find the inspiration to win from fellow British winners Donaldson and Wood - 0.4 ew 66/1
The one player I have left out is SY Noh as I think he will be badly prepared flying in from California but he may well be worth backing in running.

Early starters set to have the worst of it?? Pretty big draw bias so, considering morning starters definitely had advantage this morning.
sick to death of these clowns(europeantour site)not doing there job!i've been keeping an eye Aguilar and when he birdied the par3 15th i backed him @ 200+/1,now 6 holes later it transpires he actually bogeyed it!
Cheers ***kers for costing me £30!

Faldoesque. This looks to me to be wide open, high winds forecast for sunday. Those making the cut could be only 8 back and we have seen some big movers today. Some big prices about. I like Aguilar from here, if you could put that 200+ up lufc, I would give you your 30 quid back. Just had some Anthony Wall at 1000, he came with a late charge last weekend, let's hope he can do it again.
Very good. We've known for years he does not practice chipping.
He has got rid of as lot of coaches. Might need a bus soon
very good "pants" but irrespective of his finish,Betfair' all about fluctuating markets where you need to try to get value to either trade or stick and when the only sauce of information is incompetent beyond belief what chance do you have?
Blow wind blow, leaders at 12 or 13 tonight please.
needed wind for this to get interesting. top 3 or 4 should be clear by tonight without it, not going to come from 6 and 7 behind them

Running away up front yet I dont trust them that much.
Incidentally, Steren has never finished out the top 3 when leading at halfway. thats quite good really. If you are on. Which Im not

Lost count of the times Ive backed him when it looks like suiting and gave up.
won once when in the final two ball in only 6 starts. what difference that makes when you are 5 clear I dunno

Throwing my hat in the ring this week. I have looked at guys who have done well here in the past and have been in reasonable form. Rafa Cabrero Bello: simple pick as he won here last year may be a little short.Romain Wattel: Has had a top ten in the past here and is playing well.Small plays on Stephen Gallacher, Thomas Bjorn and Marcel Siem. GL
Good little tourny 25 on Gallacher @ 80s laid off for 500 @ 1.90. Wattel RCB and Siem have all looked around the mark at times as well.
Just the 4 eagles so far this week and about 19 putts today.Don't forget the lottery Steve.
With Phil running away with things in the states and SG doing the same in Dubai it is poentially a bad week. Had a small bet on Sterne as the 1st round leader - but has not covered my losses on both events. Im hoping Sneds can stay in touch today in Phoenix - but doubt he can apply enough pressure come tomorrow unlee within 2 overnight.
Im on Olesen in Dubai - only hope is that SG bottles it - only 1 win on tour in many years. But cannot deny he is playing supremely - it will come down to how ell Sterne or Olesen putts tomorrow in comparison to Gallacher

Can see Gallagher trading a lot higher today... Hit a nervous approach at the 18th but got out of it with a lovely bunker shot... I think he will feel the pressure certainly not over the line
Generally 4/9 in the shops ,touching 4/5 on here. The layers are being very fair.
Gallagher said he went for the bunker on 18 as there was mud on his ball.
Not even one birdie yet on the first so far and only 12 more players to go !
Must be playing straight into the wind and have a difficult pin too ?
Does anyone know if it has happened that a hole has yielded no birdies in a full field event, even if it is after the cut ?

gallacher very fair price,im big green on olesen, just dont think he can follow it through to win though

Mrket indicating that Olesen is struggeling. I guess there are someone on the course unless you guys have pictures yet ?
Thanks, still another 15 minutes before I'll have pictures.
gallagher on green 30feet for birdie, sterne 20 feet for bird
gallagher spoons drive on 2nd,lookd quick jerky swing in trees, sterne fairway
gallagher in bunker now after spooning out looks very nervous
sterne about to birdie number 2.
if he continues to drive as he has, and it is early, i would be worried if i was a Gallagher backer

oh sorry gallagher wasnt in bunker on edge chips to 8feet
Scottish radio has just said that Gallagher goes into the final round with a 3 shoot lead.
If only they knew...

Draw I reckon mate! Great time to play them, but would be happy with that. What do you think?
ye draw most likely but if we attack n show less fear you never know
Shocking first outt but hell of a save from Gallgher. Those last two putts should settle him down a bit now.
I dont know, being old fashioned and in light of the rules change to come, I just do not like seeing guys holing putts with the broomstick now. Fair dues to Siem he has grasped the nettle and started putting like a golfer is meant to.
it certainly wont Frames, I wasnt long in stopping him though, a mention and he is gone like a flash
gallacher-20 sterne -19(bogeyed last 2 holes) westwood 3rd -17
clueless heres a link if you want one only about 6 seconds behind my virgin media pictures.just make picture bigger gets rid of adds dont need to click on anything else

Best flip flop between the top two this year so far..........loving it
That Westwood's putt shows why he won't win a major.........
its shocking.glad laid my gallagher yesterday couldnt believe the odds with few holes to play and whole day remaining.
match over,,,gallager wins,,,sterne has gone,,no bottle
bye bye,,that didnt take long,,gutsy wins ,,bottle job loses
He sure has been lucky the last two days - unbelievable lol.
thats why golf is such a dodgy betting medium,,,golfers are imo mentally the weakest of all sportsmen,,,
Probably more to do with having much more time to think about the next shot
The other bloke and that ricochets straight back into the hole
four bogies in the back nine is joint worst of the round,,,,thats just not good enough,,he should hang his head in shame
hang his head in shame?? 1 over for the back nine, get real.
That's me done for the forceable future.Had a bad end to last year and a poor start to this.Luckily got those losses back over the past 3 weeks and decided the next PC charge will be my last unless things change.Won't be holding my breath for that though.
It's been an enjoyable ride over the years ,good luck to the regulars.

goodbye and good luck frames, enjoyed your contributations over the years, more liquidity gone from the market, maybe Betfair might see the obvious and have a good long look at the PC charge. Maybe you should become a tutor and teach people how to become a PC charge player.
