THE 2013 BETFAIR GOLF COMPETITION
Well done to Dazmacccccc for an excellent win in the 2012 comp just holding off Tingle Creek and perennial challenger Midnight Special in the final stage. The 2013 competition starts on 10th January and anyone who wishes to enter should put their name down on this thread. The rules follow this post and also the schedule of events follow too.
Prize money cannot be determined at this stage. There will be some cash prizes for sure but until Betfair respond to my request for 2013 sponsorship, I cannot be specific about the prizes and the value of such. Nevertheless, the cash is secondary to the kudos of winning one of the longest and most difficult comps to win on Betfair !!!
Once I know the number of entrants I will announce the cut off numbers going forwards into the 2nd stage and the 3rd stage. The 15 prequaifiers will automatically be entered in the 2nd stage whether or not they compete in the first stage and regardless of where they finish if they do. Pre-qualifiers will be assigned the letters PQ in the first stage if they enter and their positions do not count towards the cut off numbers. However, they can win the prize (If there is one) for the first stage leader after week 12.
I hope to see many of you back from last year and a few new ones too. Just enter your name on this thread and by the Monday prior to the first scoring tournament (10th Jan) I will allocate the group you should post in. Anyone posting after this date will be given a group to post in by default so no one should have an excuse for not entering.
I reserve the right to change the scoring on weeks where the standard scoring system is meaningless such as some of the events last year where only 12 or 13 people were entered. I also reserve the right to add in tournaments where there are currently TBA’s in the schedule and also on weeks 46 and 47 that we did have in 2012 but have nothing scheduled in 2013 yet.
Rules are the same... there are many suggestions each year for changes but the comp has been running for a number of years now with few changes and I see no difference to this year. Good luck all who enter and let the battle commence !!!

Rules for the 2013 competition
1. Competition will run from the Volvo Golf Champions (10/01/13-Week 1) until the conclusion of the DP Dubai World Championships (14/11/13-Week 47). This may be extended if further events are added to the tour 2. The competition will be divided into 3 phases a. Wks 1 -12 Phase 1:Qualifiers will play for the first 12 weeks until after the Hassan II Golf Trophy 28th March 2013 b. Wks 13-34 Phase 2: The top ??? (dependant on number of entries) from Phase 1 will be joined the 15 exempt players from 2012 until after The Welsh Open 29th Aug 2013. Wks 35-45 Phase 3: The Top ??? (dependant on number of entries) from Phase 2 will play from after the European Masters until the OHL Classic at Mayakoba (Week's 35 until 45) 3. Phase 1 Qualifiers to be divided into 5 groups alphabetically for administration purposes only. Group 1 Masters Group 2 US Open Group 3 THE Open Group 4 US PGA Group 5 Scottish Open 4 How to enter? Please enter your name on the invitation thread and await the start of the competition Entries will be accepted up until the start of the first tournament on the 10th January. Entries after this WILL be accepted but will score -120 for any tournaments missed. 5 How to select? You are allowed to choose 3 golfers from each event that is covered plus you can nominate one reserve who will be used if one of your first choices pull out before the start of the tournament. Once your players have started the tournament the sub cannot be used. Only 1 of the Top 3 in the betting ( selected each week by Madmaxkelly) will be allowed You must put the initial and surname of each golfer. Please note that if there is a doubt as to which golfer you mean, your reserve will be used or a MC (Missed Cut) score will credited. Eg. Clarke would be void as it could be D.Clarke or T.Clark. Better still print the entire name of your choice to be sure. Every year competitors are caught out by this. Changes are only allowed if there is a non runner and it is prior to the advertised start time. Reserve will be allocated to the first named non runner only. You cannot choose who is replaced if you have 2 non runners so pick your runners in priority order. Only the listed events count for scoring purposes. 6 How to score? Standard events Winner = Best R P price x 10… eg 33-1 winner = 330 points plus 10 for making the cut with minimum 100 points Top 5 = +30 points Top 10 = + 20 points Top 25 = + 10 points Made Cut = 10 points Missed Cut or NR = -20 points WD/DISQ prior to Cut = -20 points Majors Winner = Best R P price x 10… eg 33-1 winner = 330 points plus 20 for making the cut then doubled (with minimum 200 points) Top 5 = +60 points Top 10 = + 40 points Top 25 = + 20 points Made Cut = 20 points Missed Cut or NR = -40 points WD/DISQ prior to Cut = -40 points WGC Events scoring is different and will be advertised prior to each event Certain events will be scored differently (Ie events with small number of people etc) and this will be made clear before each event 7 League Tables These will be posted weekly by 5.00pm Monday on completion on each week's events. (I will do my best) Any queries unless there is an obvious typing error can only be rectified prior to the next week's competition starts. Phase 1 League tables will be for each group but the Top ??? (TBA) out of total entry will be in bold. Phase 2 No points carried forward from Phase 1. Top ??? (TBA) will be in bold. Points from phase 2 will carry onto phase 3 8 Unless otherwise stated, Madmaxkellys decision will be final. 9 Only 45 weeks this year but I reserve the right to add events to weeks 46 and 47 should any be announced |
