Bo Van Pelt has won once in his career on tour and has choked away a few chances and is wanted @ 60.....Mark Wilson has 5 career wins ( 2 in 2011 & 1 in 2012 ) and is available to back @ 470. I would doubt very much that either of them will be winning but who is the guy wanting 60 about BVP ???  I have a second hand car for sale Laugh

Olympic, according to the World Golf Hall of Fame author and journalist Dan Jenkins is “where the wrong guy wins every time." Only if you thought the right guy was Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson or Payne Stewart. And a great many did. Including Jenkins, who, from Fort Worth as was Hogan, properly idolized Ben.
The idea Olympic is the “graveyard of legends," as emphasized at each subsequent Open, developed because in the first one held there, 1955, Jack Fleck, from a municipal course in Iowa, upset Hogan, as well as people named Middlecoff, Snead and Littler. Fleck, using Hogan clubs, caught Ben over the final holes and then beat him in the 18-hole playoff.
When 11 years later the Open returned to Olympic, located just across a highway and some sand dunes from the Pacific, the plot was similar. Only the characters had changed. Arnie was the man and with nine holes left also was the leader by seven shots.

But he stumbled and Billy Casper gained, and, lo, another playoff, won by Casper. If people thought it was a fluke, well, it was Billy’s second Open championship. So there.
Not until 1987 did the Open come back to Olympic. This time it was Scott Simpson, the classic plodder on a plodder’s course, finishing a shot in front of Tom Watson, who had graduated from Stanford 30 miles down the road.
In 1998, Payne Stewart was leading several holes into the final round, but Lee Janzen was the winner, for a second time. Not much of a personality, said the critics, but they couldn’t criticize his golf.

For those that havent read it,very interesting facts associated with the u.s open venue this week.

J-Day at 95s is another at a cracking price this week. Generally turns up at majors, and was second at the US Open (and Masters) last year. Not in the best form, but you can't go wrong at the price.

Although they've had wildly different results since, i got to see KT Kim and Bubba Watson go head to head in the final round down here in Oz earlier in the year. Bubba is 46s (fair enough too) while Kim is 850s - I'll take some of that thank you.

For what it's worth Bubba and Kim both fell away on day four, leaving Greg Chalmers to swoop in for the title.

I am with you Miss A - KT Kim is my best result going in. I think it is only a matter of time before he shows the world how good he is, has no end of talent and is very much a thinker suited to a grinding type of event

Just added a little Angel Cabrera at 570s. They say Oakmont 2007 was the toughest test ever, and that Olympic this year will rival it. Seeing as it was Angel that was last man standing then, I think he's worth a tickle.

Just about where I want to be with U.S. Open, except for backing Donald or Westwood.  I can't really believe that two or three of the top six in the betting won't figure somewhere along the way.  I have put some more into the parachute fund, just in case the golf goes completely t*ts up.

I expect to be abused for putting horses on the golf forum, but I don't want to be abused for after timing.  Going for the record today as I have never laid more than 19 losers on the trot before.  I have laid four today, with one more partly unmatched.

The four matched are Les Verguettes (Nottingham 2.30) @ 5.00 average, Cantal (Yarmouth 3.50) @ 2.70 average, Razorbill (Nottingham 4.5) @ 2.96, Sea Fever (Haydock 9.20) @ 2.90.

It'll give everyone a laugh if nothing else.  Good luck to everyone with the golf.

Actually it's a fair price considering the course is ultra hard and 4 golfers currently are under par.....

I appreciate that Ski-Wiz but in terms of the fact that Westwood,Donald and McIlroy haven't tee'd off yet amongst other very accomplished golfers I would say it is a short price! Some may feel it is good value I personally don't!

Horses yesterday not as bad as I expected, and the parachute fund was not needed.  Had four today but one has drifted over my 4/1 limit, so will try to lay that in running.  Most of my lays do shorten up in running anyway.

The three laid are Jocasta Dawn (2.40 Sandown) @ 2.82, Green Howard (4.45 York) @ 4.60, aand Ken's Girl (5.30 Chepstow) @ 2.96.  Have now taken stake out of Blake Adams,  left a bit of green for an unlikely further trade.  Good luck today.

Well more than happy with day 1. Very early days of course but my hunch for Watney to be inspired by local/childhood vibes has started well as have my two of the 'big guns' in Rose & Kuuch.

Points only reasonably solid and Badds & Wilson aren't completely finished yet although they need an under par round to get back in to it today.

Also great run for my money with Allen for first round leader . I thought his bogey at the last was going to be the difference to being in place money but as it happened more of PM starters got to -1 than I expected so didn't make a difference. Probably just as well he didn't get in at Even as I'd have gone to bed thinking there was a good chance of being in the money only to wake up dissapointed!

Traded him out on here though for the vast bulk of the big green I had on him from 1000s so covered my first round leader bet.

More of the same from Watney, Rose & kuuuch this afternoon now please!

Good luck and enjoy second round everyone!

A couple of predictions from me today. Ok, they may seem a bit far fetched at first glance but are they ?

Martin Flores(450+)to be in the Top5 at the end of the day.
Currently +1 and probably had the best of the conditions yesterday but he always gives himself plenty of birdie opportunities and is in the top 10 in strokes gained putting on the USPGA Tour.

Michael Thompson (34)to extend his lead at the top.He putted well yesterday but then again he probably knows the greens better than most finishing runner up in the US Amateur. All the big names will be content with Par golf to leave themselves a chance over the weekend whereas Thompson could  easily shoot low again putting the way he is.

Will prob get a lot of stick for what Iam about to type but I will put it out here now - Westwood to win - seen enough yesterday, watched his whole round and he was very unlucky with certain bounces etc have a feeling with the early conditions being better he could shoot a 67 or so! Tiger will end the day over par IMO. Excited

BruceWayne (my Grandfather used to say never trust a man with two Christian names!)- I can see why you could think that based on yesterday, where to his credit he stuck on really well after an awful start. But the fact is he simply doesn't win in the States. 2 wins in 20 odd years is more than just a short trend! Surely we have enough evidence of that now to believe he will struggle to get past some very solid guys 3 and 4 ahead of him.

Kuchar is the one I would very surprised to see not around the mark come Sunday, Poulter can not be dismissed and I thought Toms price held up really well from the time finished yesterday. Dufner likely to keep coming also

Bubba Watson, quote "took a long break after the masters, wheres his game at the moment".Why would you back him in this ?1st round +8,looked totally disinterested and was even taking huge interest in which club Tiger was useing on one hole !! laughable. The masters winner ???
Phil Mickelson.quote "Can be wayward off the tee, admitted recently he needed a break" Why would you back him? 1st round +6,was so wayward off the tee i thought Phil had invented a new sport, hit the bird out the tree !!.
Rory Mcilroy.quote"Is he showing to much interest in other things and not concentrating on his golf?" why would you back him ?1st round +7.Looked totally disinterested from the first hole, obviously didnt want to be there.
Luke Donald.quote "Followed him before his improvement, looked to be lacking a bit of steel"Why would you back him? 1st round +9,Have to congratulate Luke actually, hes not only proved me exactly right, hes as good as a 14 year old boy.On championship courses against the best he hasnt got it mentally.
Lee Westwood.Quote " In the Tiger?Rory camp on this, love p u s s y but not when it has man boobs and a funny grin" 1st round +3.Probably over slated him,but 56 majors,13 top 10's,given the price he normally is you would need a large bank roll following him,to his credit kept his chances alive following a dreadful start, but this is how he plays,he may possibly get himself in contention at some stage but yet again the wheels will fall off as yet again the bottle goes.

Traded

Tiger Woods
Rory McIlroy    (huge greens, never got to green up, what a waste of 2 months trading on him)
Phil Mickelson
Jason Dufner
Hunter Mahan
Rickie Fowler
Keegan Bradley
Lee Westwood
Adam Scott
Zach Johnson
Peter Hanson
Bo Van Pelt
Francesco Molinari
Luke Donald
Jim Furyk
Sergio Garcia
Justin Rose
Matt Kuchar
Ian Poulter
Beau Hossler

Laid
Furyk again.....small red.

Had a cheeky amount on Dufner @ 46 last night after Tiger finished.....thinking no one daft enough to match it.....imagine to my surprise someone did and now traded out @34....love these kind of trades.

Is anyone going to post their updates......to prevent accusation of aftertiming of courseWink

Ski, green up for a profit of 30 per cent on initial stakes.  As it stands,
Woods, smallest red.
Furyk, Tom, McDowell reasonable greens,
Dufner a bit worse than Tiger, as is Colsaerts and Mahan.
Kuchar, Westwood, Scwartzel, Stricker, Adams, Els and some no-hopers green.
The rest small reds
My two biggest pre-tourney bets missed the cut.

Well didn't quite go to plan yesterday. Shocker from Points and disappointing that Rose, Kuch & Watney all went backwards.

Still a lot of golf to be played off course but with Tiger & Jimbo looking ominous suspect I'm playing for top 6 money now.

Was Rory one of them.....?

Im on Kooch and pretty happy so far. He missed a few putts yesterday that you'd expect him to make.

If he shoots level par today I'd be delighted. I can see +1 leading by the end of today.
