So another 24pt loss for the week for Mr Palmer. That must be 100 pts in the last 4/5 weeks alone. For the year must be over 200pts....

No, but he is not charging anyone for them, and people don't have to back them. If they cant form their own opinion, they shouldn't be slating someone elses.

That's not strictly true though is it. People are paying for the RP and hence paying for Mr Palmers tips. What annoys me is how the RP will trumpet any winner he has in the coming weeks irrespective of how he has done over a sustained period of time. This allied to the blatantly incorrect prices they claim.
It just amazes me that the bookies wont lay all golf bets until the cows come home. If experts like Palmer and Elliot are struggling. What hope for anyone else? |

Yeah, I agree with you about the crowing about a belated winner. No need for it in any circumstance really( I accept it sells more copies), but especially if down overall.
But does anyone really buy the Post for the sole purpose of Palmers tips? They are posted up here every Wed. Or a cursory glance in the shop would give the same info. And the bottom line is, he isn't taking the money out of peoples pockets and writing their slips, he is simply giving an educated opinion on the event. The punter makes the decision to bet or not, and I would have no time for anyone moaning about losing money backing them. Some people obviously do win Tom. I place the majority of my golf bets with bookies, as the e.w terms can be punter friendly, especially when 6 places offered. I would be certainly be in profit on the golf since starting to concentrate more on it the last few years. I stick my bets up each week on the Irish Forum. Winning accounts get closed, but with a little initiative can be reopened. A bookie will try to balance their books, rather than have a few players as huge liabilities and nothing on others. That is too much like gambling for them, so are not going to take any random large sum on any one player. |

seems Palmer going through the same tough spell as Tom Segal on Racing..yeah its a tough business and you either keep the faith or you dont. Though i suppose sometimes in following a hithertoo decent tipster..you hope it is a bad run and that they havent lost the plot..i think that is what we might have some concern for.Time will tell..I dont know how Palmer has shaped up PL over say the last 5 years but i decided to back him on the basis of every time i picked up an RP hed backed a big winner week after week or so it seemed.. But he last months bar John Senden in March have been awful...will keep backing him til the year end see what happens.

I do respect the fact that he seems to be consistent with his methods and doesn't just lump for favs all the time. Think it does show partly what a tough yearit has been on golf. Even last week the bookies cleaned up despite the two favs winning!! |

How do you know the bookies cleaned up? I know for a fact BMW was a terrible result with Rory winning after the drift along with Donald placing. Remember Monty won in Seniors as well which was never going to be a good result |

I guess these things are all relative. On a normal week if you said that the two favs at the start of the week both won then the bookies would normally take bit of a hammering. However, both players drifted markedly throughout the week and were utterly friendless in the market. I did not see either player tipped up anywhere and both had very poor course form.
You only have to read the comments Skybet's golf compiler said about the week to get a good feel for it; No bad weekend industry wide from what i can gather I maintain it has been a pretty exceptional year so far for the layers on the golf in terms of results. |

At the US Masters he claimed that he had to find the winner or he would be skint until the World Cup. Then he throws readers this idea of a good staking plan. Woeful.
In my opinion, win lose or draw, Mr Palmer is the most 'dangerous' tipster around to his readers and especially himself, because if he wins he'll splash out, and if he loses he throws bad money after good, and be damned with the consequences. His attitude to money is completely unacceptable considering the paper he works for, and he should seek help for his own peace of mind. I hope he heeds this advice. |
