Not far off it DP. He basically said he thought Dustin Johnson was a poor price considering he been so hit and miss all year, and then puts him up as one of his selections.

Anyone have any idea how he is doing for the year? Obviously his stakes are not level as such.

Reading his RP columns seems a bit of a rollercoaster, no doubt he's a good tipster and has some great runs, but golf is so tricky to make profits on a regular basis, even with a few darts per event....anyway I wish him well as not easy to write about a losing week!

Any assessment of overall profits for Palmer (or any R Post pundit for any sport) should be treated with caution as a lot of the prices quoted have gone by the time the Post is available

its all a fantasy

i cant get those amounts on in shop on the phone or the net

so its all a fantasy

a bit like a millionaire telling you about his lifestyle ie. i bought a £5 million house and 2 bentleys got loads of women on the go etc blah blah blah

pathetic that people suck up to this parasitic media worm

he should be writing about how the so called books treat the vast majority of punters.until he grows some balls and tackles one of the major issues this corrupt industry has.then i have the uttermost disrespect for the sad loser

Garcia 7s Tom. And 7-4 for top 5 is excellent value in a field with so little strenght in depth.

DukeOfPuke, I am sure Steve Palmers bets are all genuine and he can get on the amounts he says. However, he can only do this because he works for the RP and the writers have an arrangement with the large bookmakers. This is not fantasy either, naively RPs Kevin Pullein told me this in an email about 3 or 4 years ago when I asked him how he gets his bets on.

the odds palmer uses are the quoted priceson a wednesday, , id be sure he gets better on a monday or tuesday if he wants

the odds on his selections are almost always shorter on a wednesday than they opened

to show a profit to wednesday prices is great tipping
By:

why dont he use betfair prices only.then its up to us to get better prices elsewhere.he cant go on qouting i have had £300 on at 33-1 at piddys when none of us get get that, what he should do is keep his fat gob shut where he places his bets with the knocking bookies, ok qoute the price and amount but not the rancid firm where its all fantasy i tell you.

here is a fictitious situation.

sp rings up piddys can i have £300 on big hitter at 33-1 'sure you can sir glad to do business with you 'what address can we send our xmas hamper to '

dop rings up piddys can i have £300 on big hitter at 33-1 ' i am just placing that now 'sorry sir that has been referrred to a trader please bear with us' a few minutes later 'sorry sir we are no longer taking any bets on big hitter at 33-1' what do you mean no bets can i have 28-1 no sir its a tradeing decision what the trader said was no bets from you.oh well are you sending out any diaries this year 'i will pass this onto customer sevices'
By:

When: 12 Dec 13 17:57
I am not sure whether we have any clue whether he is showing a profit or not given the fictional prices.

What I resent DOP is when they turn round and say you can have £50 EW at the 33/1 and the rest (£250) at 22/1. Wtf would I want the rest at 22/1. Its nothing short of scandalous and its just a shame the likes of Mr Palmer do not speak up about these types of practice.

It is like me going into a shop and seeing six apples on sale for £3. When I go to purchase them they turn round and say sorry you can only have 1 apple for 50p. You can have the others at 75p each though. It is utterly ridiculous.

If you advertise a price then you should be obliged to lay that price for a certain amount irrespective of who the buyer is.

When: 12 Dec 13 17:58
Because if you dont want to lay a bet at the fecking price then dont fecking offer it. Its why you have teams of crack traders...
By:
donny osmond
When: 12 Dec 13 18:36
the odds are the odds on offer on  wednesday, which is after he has put his bets on, or others have seen his tips and backed them at higher
odds.....

the bookies would be stupid to lay everybody 500 quid on a popular tipster at the price on the day the paper is issued

even if they are under fair value if he hit 2 or 3 winners they would be skint
By:
donny osmond
When: 12 Dec 13 18:38
if they are prepaped to lay 1000 quid at 33/1 and he has 300 on then there is 700 left which is soon taken by 70 readers having their
tenner on

why should they lay you 200 ?

I was not specifically talking about laying money on SP tips. It was a more generic comment. The prices quoted are there available for usual customers (at say 9am) a fraction of the time the next day. So often the RP is out of date with a price having gone by 8pm the previous night and is still quoted for one of his tips. I am not saying that is his fault but can be a bit disingenuous especially if he picks certain firms.

Btw if a firm was prepared to lay say £1000 ew at a price and he takes 30% of it then I think he is selling his readers very short.

They obviously have a limit that they are prepared to lay on a certain player. What i was getting at is where that limit is say £1000 ew and they tell you you can have £50 at say 33/1 and the rest at 22/1. Yet still lay that price of 33/1 to others. If they cut the price then that is fine. That is not what I am saying. I can understand is a marketing ploy such as Corals and Sprinter Sacre. Not the case here.
By:
donny osmond
When: 12 Dec 13 19:54
i agrree totally about their general limits

and it should be first come first served and price is cut, ...with exceptions when they get wind of tipster selections
By:
NorwichRob
When: 12 Dec 13 21:30
SP has always said that he's bound by the PR tipsters rules of not punting a price prior to their copy being printed, to give the punter first whack, therefore he's on at the lower price in theory, unless his Weymouth bookie still lays his bets at top price.

the odds of nearly all his selections are shorter on a wednesday than the price they opened

he may be on at wednesday price, but its a stretch to assume nobody is on at better prices

its the same with all popular tipsters

if the price is shorter and palmer/ chapman muppet havnt tipped them then it must be elliott

it makes his profits the last two seasons even better than they seem, i think its impossible
for him to show a profit year after year when the prices have already been cut on his selections

and the more sucess he gains the greater the margin by which his next selections are cut
