With the excitement of Cheltenham building, it's also good to see some good flat horses starting to make an appearance, with a good card at Wolverhampton.  The Lincoln Trial should be interesting with Light From Mars making an appearance (16/1 winner of Spring Cup for us last year).  We'll only be watching the flat today, too early to bet.

Quousko De L'Isop ran a completely different race to normal yesterday, and thankfully it paid off for a good place in a competitive handicap at Newbury (advised 28/1).  Normally sent out in front, and asked to hold on, he was instead held up in the pack, and stayed on gamely in the end to grab the 3rd place.  Freddie Brown ran a good enough race at Kelso, only finding one better.  The same, and more, could be said about Junior at Doncaster.  He had no luck at all.  In my opinion, had the leading horse (Pentiffic) stayed on his feet at the last, Junior would have won.  Instead, his fall hampered our selection, allowing the then 3rd placed Ikorodu Road to take advantage.  Pentiffic was already looking a beaten horse when he fell, and Junior failed by the shortest of margins to get back up and beat Ikorodu Road.  Exceptionally unlucky.

(I've been trying to detatch myself emotionally from the decision whether to back Striding Edge tonight @ Kempton.  This disappointment of missing out on the 9/1 last week, is still niggling at me, but I have to remain focused on the facts.  I've clearly thought for some time that Striding Edge was on a mark he's more than capable on, and with only the 6lb penalty today I still feel it's a good mark.  The trainer obviously feels it's still a good mark, sending him out before the handicapper can assess him.  He likes Kempton (not all horses do), the extra furlong tonight will suit, and now I find myself with a higher opinion of the jockey though I still question previous rides, given the transformation last week).  We'll take our chances and back him tonight.
