Profit yesterday, but can't help but feel disappointed, as things could have been so much better.
Kyllachy Star got us off to a flyer with his 2nd in the Spring Mile at Doncaster.  Opinion Poll also delivered in a rearranged Dubai Gold Cup, however we have to accept the Rule 4 reduction (to about Evens) due to the NR Fox Hunt, who was sadly fatally injured in the original run.
I don't often have to say it, but I got greedy with Eton Forever in the Lincoln yesterday.  He was available @ 6/1 with SkyBet who were paying 5 places, but instead took the 7/1 with others offering 4 places.  Eton Forever of course finished 5th.
St Nicholas Abbey was simply given too much to do by Joseph O'Brien in Dubai, and it's always disappointing that the best horse in the race doesn't win (more so when you back it!)
So You Think I'm afraid looks a shadow of his former self, and will no doubt drop from the notebook this season.
All in all, a good start to the flat season, and hopefully a sign of things to come over the next number of months.

We couldn't round the festival off properly at all yesterday.  A promising enough start with Grumei running well for a place, nit there was nothing after that.  Boston Bob was the banker of the day, but found just one better.  I thought our 40/1 shot Tornado Bob ran a cracker, just finding the hill too tough after looking a good thing turning the corner.  He will suit a similar race over a flatter track, and maybe a furlong shorter.  Midnight Chase's jumping in the Gold Cup really let him down.  Too many uncharacteristic mistakes that took it's toll turning the corner.

Thursday was certainly more like it. Good start to the day with Sir Des Champs very impressive, and coming in for us at 7/2.  Captain Chris ran a cracker race, unlucky not to run into a place.  Divers also ran a credible race only fading in the final furlong, but still hung on for the place money.  But the performance of the day has to be Voler La Vadette.  Not many gave the high class mare a chance, but I felt (with the exception of Big Bucks) she had the beating of the rest.  It was great to be in a position going over the last able to cheer Big Bucks home, knowing that our 9/1 on Voler La Vadette (without the favourite) was safe.  It's turned around our festival, and puts us on a positive foot going into Friday.

Like Day 1, Wednesday's selections started well, with Harry The Viking 2nd, Simonsig winning at a canter, and Big Zeb 3rd.  However, from the moment Spirit River (18/1) fell at the last when going well, and looking nailed on for a place, things went down hill.  To rub salt in the wounds, Une Artiste who was tipped up here on his previous outing at Kempton, won the Fred Winter at a price of 40/1.  How sorry am I that he left my notebook after that previously disappointing run.
