Disappointing runs from yesterday evening's selections.  Sim Sala Bim didn't look comfortable, or well positioned, and by the time he picked up he was never catching the front pair.  Jedward ran ok, but didn't kick through in the final furlong.
Plenty of action today, I havent provided individual justification, but will do in the comments if anyone wants to hear it!

Two bets for the blog today:

Curragh

8.00pm Jedward
2pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 7.2
Best available elsewhere: 6/1 (Bet365, SkyBet, totesport, BetFred, Paddy Power, Stan James, Coral)
We have backed Jedward prevously this year, and she ran extremely well into 3rd at this venue on similar ground.  She should come on for that run again, and I tak he to hopefully go one better this evening.

Chester

8.50pm Sim Sala Bim
4pt Win bet
Current Betfair price: 2.7
Best available elsewhere: 7/4 (SkyBet, totesport, BetFred, Paddy Power, Coral, William Hill)
On the eve of Royal Ascot we managed to land Sim Sala Bim at Windsor at 6/1.  Late leaving the stalls he was worked on early to make up the lost ground.  He went on to in the contest with ease, with jockey Willie Carson looking all round him just to make sure there was no contest, and lightly pushed him out hands and heels.  Peanalsed the 6lb, he's obviously out again for a quick double.  I expect him to win again tonight.

Thanks,
Sir Tip

What a run from Deacon Blues yesterday to finish off Royal Ascot for us!
We've staked a total of 17 points across the five days, and came away with a PROFIT of 14.875 points, that's a yield of 87.5%.
As well as today's great success the highlight of the week for me was landing Sagramor @ 8/1 in the Britannia on Thursday, what a ride from Nicky Mackay!

That's three major festivals this year where this blog has returned solid profit:
Cheltenham: 12.8% yield from 34 bets
Aintree: 22.1% yield from 19 bets
Royal Ascot: 87.5% yield from 13 bets

onwards and upwards!

One bet today:

Pontefract

3.40pm Shallow Bay
2pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 6.6
Best available elsewhere: 6/1 (Victor Chandler, William Hill)
Shallow Bay has shown already in his first two outings this season, that he can compete at this level.  His third run at Sandown, where he finished nowhere, can be largely discounted.  Just as he was picking up for a run a furlong out, he was badly impeeded, and was practically pulled up.  I don't think he would have reached the winner, but he would certainly have had a better finishing place.  Today, the booking of Kieron Fallon is significant, and I feel he's worthy of a good each way bet.

Thanks,
Sir Tip

Yesterday was very close to being another successful day for us.
Korngold ran a good race, but took too long to pick up, and get into top stride.  Placed third, landing the each way bet at 10/1 was our only success from four.  He will win antoher day.
Courageous ran a brilliant race in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Ascot.  He made all for most of the race, and deserved more than a 5th place finish as you could have thrown a blanket over the first six at the line.  I'm greatly encouraged by that selection, given the complete lack of form so far this season, even though he is still a losing bet.
Pivot Bridge, ran ok, but was beaten a furlong out.
Adilapour ran a stinket, and is now a shadow of the horse who started the season!

Two bets today on the last day of Royal Ascot:

Royal Ascot

3.45pm (Golden Jubilee Stakes)
Bated Breath
1.5pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 11.0
Best available elsewhere: 10/1 (Bet365, SkyBet, sportingbet, Victor Chandler, BlueSQ, Paddy Power, 888Sport, William Hill)
There is no doubt in my mind that the cut in the ground at Ascot today will suit Bated Breath, unlike some of the others.  He has won twice already this season after a blow out at Doncaster.  One of those successes coming in a Listed race at Windsor, where he won easily.  10/1 offers great each way value today for Bated Breath.

4.25pm (Wokingham Stakes)
Deacon Blues
1.5pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 10.0
Best available elsewhere: 9/1 (Bet365, William Hill)
Deacon Blues has had one run out this season so far, running in a 6f Handicap at Ascot back in May off a mark of 95.  Had Hayley Turner not had to switch left a furlong out I feel he would have won that day. He was only beaten a neck, and has been upped 3lb for that performance.  Running today off 98 is still a very good mark for Deacon Blues, and I take him to be very competitive today, and with the booking of Johnny Murtagh, the trainer clearly feels confident too.

Thanks,
Sir Tip

Great winner on Thursday with Sagramor. Even with the extra weight since Haydock I always felt he was capable of pulling this one off too.  Puts this blog in profit for Royal Ascot!  It wasn't to be for Future Generation at Leopardstown, he seemed to be travelling as well as any of them, but didn't seem to pick up as well as he did last time.   He will win another day though.
Some selections for Friday, to keep the winning momentum going!

Royal Ascot

5.35pm (Buckingham Palace Stakes)
Courageous
1.5pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 25.0
Best available elsewhere: 25/1 (sportingbet, Coral)
Courageous has not shown any form this season so far, which has been disappointing after the promise shown last year after moving to Dandy Nicholls' yard.  That should point us away from the bottom weight today, but a number of small factors convice me to take a small punt on Courageous.  For starters Dandy Nicholls is a first class short-distance trainer, who's stable is in good form of late. This race is 7f which I believe is more suited to Courageous than the 5f sprints he's been running in of late.  He is also running off a good competitive mark of 88, and has a favourable stand-side draw.  Add to that a pilot by the name of Kieron Fallon, and I think we have a runner in with a descent shout.

Musselburgh

2.20pm Pivot Bridge
1.5pt Win bet
Current Betfair price: 4.2
Best available elsewhere: 3/1 (widely available)
Pivot Bridge ran well in his seasonal reappearance at Nottingham in April, finishing 2nd.  He was badly hampered when back out at Windsor in May.  The breeding behind Pivot Bridge would suggest he will progress well this year, and I take him to start that progression with a victory in this contest today.

Goodwood

6.50pm Korngold
1pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 12.0
Best available elsewhere: 9/1 (Bet365, SkyBet, Boyles, Paddy Power)
Korngold is a horse who was introduced by John Dunlop as a juvenile without much exertion, and lightly handled by the jockey on each occasion.  Like Pivot Bridge, he will undoubtedly progress this season, and from a starting mark of 62, will surely move up through the ratings throughout the year.

Limerick

7.10pm Adilapour
1pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 7.2 (inactive market currently)
Best available elsewhere: 7/1 (SkyBet, Boyles, Coral)
Adilapour has been a winner and a loser for this blog already this season.  He won well at Gowran Park at the start of May, but found the going a lot tougher in a Group 3 at The Curragh towards the end of the same month.  We need to bear in mind that the Oxx stable was in very poor form during the period of his second run, but have turned the corner somewhat since the beginning of June.  Adilapour will find this grade of race a little easier than the last, but the step up in trip is an unknown at this stage, so a small stake is recommended.

Thanks,
@Sir_Tip

Hopefully most of you will be returning profit for Wednesday's selections.  Fury was withdrawn lame before the 2.30 race, and Kieron Fallon was obviously disappointed in an in terview later in the day, as he felt his mount would be in contention.
Eaton Forever finished a good 5th, and most bookmakers paid out on 5th in this race, however as I failed to point this out yesterday, for the purposes of this blog it will be recorded as a losing bet.
Today, we have a selection for Day 3, and also a solid selection at Leopardstown, both of which will be fondly remembered from the 21st May selections.  The day we landed 4 out of 4, at combined odds of 2400/1!

Royal Ascot

4.25pm (Britannia Handicap)
Sagramor
1pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price: 9.2
Best available elsewhere: 8/1 (widely available)
Sagramor was very impressive last time out, and seemed to have something left in him at the post, staying on, and pulling away from the field.  Although rated 8lbs higher for that victory, I feel it's worth taking another chance on him being good enough again.
The danger I think will come from Belgian Bill, and the betting will be worth watching for him.

Leopardstown

7.35pm Future Generation
1.5pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price:  7.0
Best available elsewhere:  6/1 (Boyles)
On his last outing, Future Generation had won his handicap race at The Curragh a furlong out, and was very impressive.  Obviusly running with the big boys this time, but I feel he has the class to perform very well at this level.  Ger Lyons is a top trainer, and is in good form of late, and with Murtagh taking the mount, it can only be a good sign.

Thanks,
@Sir_Tip

Tuesday's selections were both disappointing.  Astrophysical Jet simply wasn't fast enough to compete with the other runners in the Sprint.  Wootton Bassett, we have to accept he hasn't lived up to expectation this season, and can have no excuses this time out.
Hopefully Wednesday's two selection can put us back on track.

Royal Ascot

2.30pm (Jersey Stakes)
Fury
2pt Win bet
Current Betfair price:  5.0
Best available elsewhere:  4/1 (Coral, William Hill)
I still watch the replay of Fury's last outing at Sandown (tipped up on this blog) and wonder how he didn't win.  A slight drift to the right seems him beaten by a short head by Tazahum.  5th in the 2000 Guineas this year, in a race that was hard to digenst for all runners other than Frankel, is still encouraging.  In the Jersey Stakes he will be better suited to the 7 furlongs instead of the mile.  The Haggas yard is in good form, and Fury will be needing the ground to stay G, G/S.  We will take a chance on him tomorrow again.

4.25pm (Royal Hunt Cup)
Eton Forever
1pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price:  16.0
Best available elsewhere:  14/1 (Bet365, William Hill)
Eton Forever caught the eye last season when under Martin Jarvis, and I'm pleased to say Roger Varian is helping him realise his potential since taking over at Kremlin House.  This will be a tough race for Eaton Forever, given his 103 rating, but he is supposedly working well again after the disappointment at Ascot at the end of April.  I feel he is still worth a point bet each way here.

Thanks,
@Sir_Tip

Monday night's 6/1 winner at Windsor (Sim Sala Bim) hopefully put a few pounds back in the coffers for the four days of first class racing at Royal Ascot.   I have a couple of bets for Day 1.

Royal Ascot

3.05pm (King's Stand Stakes)
Astrophysical Jet
1pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price:  15.5
Best available elsewhere:  14/1 (Bet365, SkyBet, Boyles, BetFred, Victor Chandler)
The Australian's are very bullish about the chances of Star Witness in the King's Stand Stakes, and that may prove to be well grounded optimism, however I'm going to oppose him with the filly Astrophysical Jet.  Disappointing on her reappearance this season at Newmarket, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on that, as I feel she needed the run.  Instead I prefer to look to the class she showed in a few sprint races at the tail end of last season.
The cut in the ground is a slight concern (unfortunately I don't think it will dry out enough to be Good ground), as our selections successes have all come on G/F, so a single point e/w is the bet.

3.45pm (St James' Palace Stakes)
Wootton Bassett * BETTING WITHOUT FAVOURITE *
2pt Win bet
Current Betfair price:  5.4
Best available elsewhere:  5/1 (totesport, BlueSQ, Paddy Power, Stan James, 888Sport)
There is little doubt in my mind that Frankel is the best miler I've seen in my lifetime.  Tomorrow will be another pleasure to watch him stride out.  There is equally as little sense backing him at long odds on, as there is opposing him, so the interest comes in which horse will follow him home.  Wootton Bassett came into this season with a big reputation to uphold, but was disappointing in the French 2000 Guineas, a performance trainer Richard Fahey attributed to a number of factors going against the horse.  I'm inclined to agree with him, and expect Wootton Bassell to come on for that run, and put in a much improved performance in the St James' Palace Stakes.
There is the temptation to get greedy and back a Frankel/Wootton Bassett Straight Forecast, but you will get little better than 5/1.  I'd prefer to take the 5/1, in the off chance something is not right with the favourite.

Thanks,
@Sir_Tip

Windsor

8.30pm Sim Sala Bim
1pt Each Way bet
Current Betfair price:  7.0
Best available elsewhere:  6/1 (sportingbet)
The extra furlong tonight should suit Sim Sala Bim, judging by his staying on finish back in Fefruary on the all-weather.  Trainer Stuart Williams has bided his time in finding the right opportunity to run our selection in handicap company.  Sim Sala Bim is one of a few unexposed horses in the race, so 1 point e/w stake is enough this time out.

Thanks,
@Sir_Tip

Doncaster

3.25pm Dorback
1pt Win bet
Current Betfair price:  5.4
Best available elsewhere:  9/2 (totesport, Boyles, Paddy Power)
Dorback's traffic problems at Newbury a month ago was eyecatching.  Jamie Spencer wondered back and forth across the track looking for the gap which came too late, and the horse was under tender handling in the final half furlong when the race was already gone.  A drop in grade, and running off the same mark of 90 should put our selection in the mix provided Spencer can avoid more of the same problems today.

5.05pm Deny
1.5pt Win bet
Current Betfair price:  3.2
Best available elsewhere:  2/1 (widely available)
Deny was a disappointing selection for this blog ten days ago.  Sir Michael Stout's gelding clearly needed that first run, and was handled accordingly throughout the race.  I believe Deny will go some way to repaying us today, in better shape.

Thanks,
@Sir_Tip
