From thw five original selections Rien Ne Vas Plus was withdrawn.  Forever's Girl, Mount Meru and Stigh Collain were all disappointing and finished around mid-field.  Korngold was the rescue bet though, with 3.5pts advised @ 7/4, he duely delivered the money.

I'm not sure how much I want to say about last nights runners and the ride Johnny Murtagh gave them. My fears documented yesterday around how Cocozza would be handled were realised.  The horse was never alked to give too much, and was clearly under tender handling.
With Alanza we'll have to give Murtagh the benefit of the doubt, as he was clarly going for it.  However, hindsight tells us he should have either pushed the button a little earlier, or not given the horse so much to do.  Alanza came steaming home in the final furlong, and still had plenty left in the tank, which was disappointing.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Alanza out over 7f next time out.  Cocozza will also be noted for next time out when he will hopefully be asked for proper effort.

Though I am often weary of a horse's first outing of the season, I've been keeping an eye out for Junket's reappearance since she won her maiden at Windsor last October, and finished well in a 'hands and heels' at Doncaster a couple of weeks later off a mark of 70.  Junket has been entered in a number of races this season, but has been withdrawn each time, due to ground conditions.  She clearly needs the soft ground to perform at her best, and she looks to be getting that today at Sandown provided the ground doesn't dry out before 5.00.  Formal Demand is the clear danger today though, having won a Maiden Stakes on the all-weather back in January, so 2pt win bet is advised on Junket.

Sluggsy Morant very nearly landed the spoils on Monday at 8/1.  It wasn't to be, but we still landed the place money for profit.

Alanza's only appearance as a 2 year old, was when she won a Maiden at Listowel very impressively.  In her only outing so far this season she was nursed through at Leopardstown.  Steered into 3rd, she clearly had lots left to give at the finish.  She is taken to land the spoils today, with a confident 3pt bet.

Like Alanza, this colt also won a maiden very impressively as a 2 year old.  My only concern with this selection today is that John Oxx will want to let him blow the cobwebs off today (again like Alanza), and prime him for a later date.  However, the form of the stable since the beginning of July makes it a risk worth taking for me.  1pt bet.

Below is a table detailing each horse racing bet recommended on this blog from April to June this year (2011).
My horse racing selections during this period has landed a massive 56.9% yield from 158 bets (both win and place bets).
In quarter two there was a cross over between the end of the 2010/2011 Jump season and the start of the 2011 Flat season, and we made the best of both worlds.
Yet again we made the most of the big festivals. Aintree in April returned a yield of 22.1%, with big priced winners like Oscar Whisky (11/2) and Prince de Beauchene (12/1).
Turning to the flat, and Royal Ascot was a bumper festival for the blog, returning a massive 87.5% yield.  Big winners this time were Sagramor (8/1) and Deacon Blues (9/1).

Though, it has be be said my favourite day of Q2 came on 21st May, with all 4 selections landed at odds of 4/1, 5/1, 7/1 and 9/1 (a 2400/1 accumulator for anyone who backed them in this way).

The further good news is, there's still plenty of selections to come in the second half of the flat season!

Saturday was a good day, with Deacon Blues winning well, and Future Generation running a good second.  Both were advised here in morning at 3/1 and 14/1 respectively.  Both were well backed, and went off at 5/2 and 8/1.  Saratoga Bay was a non-runner.
Q3 got off to a poor start, but we're quickly getting back towards positive yield.

Well, Q2 is now over, and the figures do all the talking at the half year point!
Since January this blog has recommended 261 bets (win and place), and returned a massive 50.6% yield.  That's up over 10% on Q1.

I was really pleased with our two winners last Saturday.

Misty For Me was magnificent in the Pretty Polly Stakes, beating long odds-on shot Midday by a full 6 lengths.

Future Generation for top Irish trainer Ger Lyons was also very pleasing, winning the high valued fillies handicap at the Curragh.  She was tipped up here on Saturday morning at 12/1, with 2pt each way bet!
