I'm pretty certain I've managed a decent profit via various sportsbooks on Golf over the last decade, but I never kept records. Will be using this thread to track my bets as the exchange is all I have left. Do occasionally place bets via friends on sportsbooks, but it's a hassle.

Day 4 Honda. Taking on Matt Jones who is leading by 3. Not many regular winners in the chasing pack, but there is JB Holmes. Don't like the fellas style of golf, but lets see if he can win me some money. Had £25 on him at 15

I do think IM and Pan might go close, and Villegas for top 5. No bets though, but I'll be following them closely.

JB poor. Still don't fancy the 2 near the top so taking them on. Sam Ryder £50 at 12
Report raspberrybottom March 22, 2021 12:14 PM GMT
Unfortunately, no-one put any real pressure on Matt Jones but he deserved to win.

My pre-start bets were Russell Henley and Bradley Keegan.

Henley never really got going after a decent start and Bradley messed up big-time after getting to eight-under in the third round.

Do like me golf though! And there's nothing like watching it on TV Sunday night when you've got a player or two at decent prices in with a squeak!

Good luck!
Report dibdob March 23, 2021 6:02 AM GMT
Thanks raspberrybottom.

It was a disappointing evening both in terms or betting and entertainment. Matt Jones an easy runaway winner.

JB hasn't been in the best form, but the last round was appalling. Sam Ryder made me look silly too, but the average odds for the winner in the past decade has been in the triple digits. It's also been won 4 out of the last 8 years by someone playing here for only the second time. Ryder fit both those trends perfectly!

WGC Match Play

Not one I like to get too heavily involved in, but it's always a fun watch. Recent winning form holds up well here, so that brings Pat Reed into the mix. He is someone I like to regularly bet, so I'll stick with him again. Wins almost as often as DJ and JT on Bermuda grass courses, but is always double the price. A no brainer backing him here. Just need him to bring his ryder cup matchplay grit to this format and hopefully he can make it all the way Pat Reed £25 at 32s
Report PeteTheBloke March 26, 2021 7:09 PM GMT
Would you trade if he goes short? Or sit it out?
Report dibdob March 26, 2021 7:41 PM GMT
Hi Pete. He's never made it to the last 8 here, but if he does I'm hoping switch to ryder cup mode and go all the way. I'd look to trade some back at around evens and maybe a bit more at a really short price. The green would still be bigger on him.

Sticking £2 on Bubba at 280. If Reed loses to Niemann tonight, then Bubba still has a decent chance to make it out of the group and I'll have something going into the weekend.
Report PeteTheBloke March 26, 2021 8:04 PM GMT
Good luck. I followed Ben Coley, so I have Spieth.

Would love for the old Spieth to return and him to win soon. Just not here Silly GL

Friday and Saturday at the WGC saw some fantastic golf. Harmons 7 birdies in a row was amazing. Sunday however was possibly golf at it's worst!

Having a few darts at the Valero and Masters selections are close to ready (JT, Reed, Ancer). Will wait to see what some of the tipsters put up before finalizing them. Morikawa and Hovland are 2 I could be talked into backing. Also Brooks injury status?

Thanks Raspberry. I think whoever is leading tonight will go on to win, don't think that will be Tringale. Decided to get on Brandt Snedeker £25 at 32. Streaky player who has been horribly out of form, but he had a great day yesterday. More of the same please Brandt.
Report dibdob April 4, 2021 5:51 PM BST
Snedekers strong point, his putting let him down. 3 man race now, but don't expect Wallace to hang around (wish there was a 3 place lay market). This makes Hoffmans price of 5.8 very appealing to me. Hopefully he starts strong or Wallace fades early so I can get some trading done.

£200 Hoffman at 5.8
Report fullback April 6, 2021 9:57 AM BST
Have to say I won't be following your future golf tips 'dibdob'.   A final 3ball including Spieth, there was only going to be one winner after his recent form and he doesn't merit a mention?.   Agree with your analysis of Wallace even if the SKY studio experts ( all Brits) were blowing him up to be the next Jack Nicklaus.
Report dibdob April 6, 2021 12:17 PM BST
Spieth recent form? Are you talking about him not winning for nearly 4 years. I had already  mentioned whoever was leading at the end of day 3 would be the likeliest winner. Given I ruled Wallace out, that would leave Spieth so no need for me to mention him directly again, especially when I'm not betting on him. Short prices just don't interest me.

Hoffman offered value and the opportunity of a "free bet" which I  got. He traded as low as 2.62 after a few holes. Also I am not putting up tips. I'm putting up my bets (with some notes) so I can keep a track of what I'm doing. One thing I've already noticed is I'm having bets on day 3 and this generally has never been a good angle for me. Something I need to cut out.

Masters 2021

There are several big names who I'd be happy to back here (JT, Rahm, Spieth, DeChambeau) but their pretournament prices are unappealing. I will focus any bets on them on Day 4.

I'm hoping lightning fast greens on Day 4 will mean there will be lots of dropped shots. This means those trailing the leader/s and even those 3 or 4 shots back will still have a great chance of winning. If some of the big names are trailing by 3 or 4, then it will provide some great prices and betting opportunities.

Couple of months ago I was keen on Reed, but he seems to have gone off the boil, so going with Morikawa. Has the game to win anywhere if the putter holds up. Hoping the new putting grip can carry him to a win here. Also having a touch on Brian Harman. Brings decent recent form, won twice on pure Bentgrass greens, lefty aged 34. Bubba and Phil won here at 34, Weir at 33, all lefties. A stars aligning bet..

Morikawa £77 at 40, Harman £23 at 130
Report fullback April 8, 2021 10:11 AM BST
Not picking an argument with you dibdob but my point about Spieth's recent 'form' isn't necessarily about winning.  He was obviously getting up to speed with placed finishes in all the recent tournaments.  That's 'recent form' in my book.  Don't be so touchy.
BTW......I've changed my mind and will follow your two selections because I've already backed them myself.  LOL

Morikawa went a little sour last night, but your selections are still in the hunt dibdob. I'm on Reed. Good luck.
Report dibdob April 9, 2021 11:59 AM BST
Reed winning won't help my blood pressure. He has been making a habit of starting tournaments really strong, but then sometimes fading. Pretty sure Rose will fade too. Been burnt by out of form players (Holmes, Sned) getting hot and flattering to deceive. Same from Rose please

Morikawa looked to get upset by Jordons eagle and his failure to even make a birdie despite being in a better position. I think his chances are gone.

Bezuidenhout winning will actually hurt me more than Reed. I thought about backing him a few weeks ago. His profile coming here is very similar to Schwartzel and Willett when they won it, but I  didn't think he was in the type of form they were when they won. Of the "big names" Spieth looked the best by miles.

Can't wait for day 2 start. GL with your bets
Report Tarooq April 10, 2021 9:43 AM BST
Looks like you were right about Reed fading. Rose still hanging round after his poor start yesterday. That was actually a really gutsy display from him.

@Raspberrybottom you must be seething at Cam Smith. From -5 to -2 in the blink of an eye. Hope you managed to get some traders done on him.

Dibdob and fullback any trading on your bets?
Report raspberrybottom April 10, 2021 6:22 PM BST
Got a bit back on Cam Smith but he was flying!

Then dropped three shots in a couple of holes. He's the sort who could go low today though.
Report dibdob April 11, 2021 3:27 PM BST
Didn't do any trading Tarooq. Agree Rose has been gutsy. Nerves however got the better of Harman. Hide was special and oozing confidence last night, but still worth taking on.

No one I'm particularly keen on behind (Spieth too far back for me liking) so using the pin, which has landed on Rose. His final round record around here when in contention is pretty solid, so at the very least he'll hopefully give me a good run for my money. Also Rose would be a worthy winner so happy to cheer him on. Rose £100 at 12.5
Report dibdob April 14, 2021 7:11 AM BST
Had a lay bet on Hide at 1.1 liability of £25. Xander managed to get Hide on the ropes, threw his knockout punch, missed and hit himself in the face instead.

Going with Kevin Kisner at the Heritage. He's found a bit of form, has a good record here including a 2nd, and is a nice price. Players missing the cut at the Masters like Kisner have turned up here and done well in the past so that's not a negative. Round 3 leaders tend not to win here (2 in 10 years) It's been won twice by guys 6 back and 4 times by players 4 back. Great place to bet on Day 4. For now Kisner £25 at 60
Report dibdob April 15, 2021 8:38 PM BST
Just got home and Kisner looks done already. Harman is -2 after 7 holes and his price is bigger than it was yesterday. Guessing it's because a few like Morikawa and Smith have got off to fliers this evening. I'll take it, £25 at 38 on Harman. I'll be seething if Morikawa wins here as that would make it the 3rd time he won the tournament following the one I backed him in.

He's more likely to shoot 75 than 65 tonight, but amongst this lot he shouldn't be such a big price.

A poster called dibdob started this thread to keep a record of his bets somewhere quiet, I think!
Though he's gone a bit quiet the last few weeks.

I started posting my stuff here - can't really remember why. I used to post on golf forum way back.

This is just habit now I suppose. I normally have 6 or 7 picks (PGATour only) with a view to trade although sometimes I let some run.

Doing okay since the re-start. Take a look back through the thread if you like!

Ta, Tiger!

Have had 4 winners from 14 tournaments since April this year.

Prices: 13.5, 75, 40 & 55

There have been 88 selections and (if level stakes used) that would show a profit of +95.5

But I'll have more on golfers I really fancy and I am almost always looking to get stakes back by

greening up (at least to get "free bets") after round two most of the time. Occasionally taking profit, etc.

Still, am nicely up this season and enjoying watching it on TV. There's nothing quite like watching live on Sunday night if you have a couple of

players in the top half-dozen or so come the last round!
