I recently installed Ghostery as an extension in my browser to prevent all those creepy trackers spying on my web activity. Its particularly important for bookmaker sites as i do not want to be bombarded with irrelevant ads for casino/bingo etc. The betfair homepage loads fine with the blocker running but individual markets remain blank unless I switch the tracker off. I have two questions: is there a workaround and is it legal for Betfair to prevent people from blocking tracking software they have consented to?
I am currently using the blocking software provided by Kaspersky 2016 and don't have problems with loading Betfair markets. Prior to that I used the "Self Destructing Cookies" add-on to Firefox.
I'm not sure how Ghostery works but the SDC add-on gets rid of cookies after you have left a site so that they can't follow you around other pages (you can of course have a whitelist of sites for those that you need to). You have to make sure that you close the open tab to get rid of the cookies for that page though. It may be an alternative option for you to try?
I'm not really up with the technicals of how these things work but even a cursory investigation shows a frightening number of trackers following you around the web. For example, on the Betfair exchange homepage, Kaspersky reports it has blocked 27 requests - 3 from Social Networks, 15 Web analytics, 4 ad agencies and 5 web beacons.

Ghostery does prevent certain sites working if you turn on all the switches. Oddschecker is one of them.
If you whitelist the sites that you need working, it will still block all the crud from other sites, so it should give you most of the privacy you need.
I also delete cookies every time I close my browser - this is an option in FF's and Chrome's privacy settings page.
Be sure to remove Adobe Flash cookies as a lot of surreptitious tracking is done with these nasty little beasts.

That seems a very good add on Gin (SDC),i,m not tech savvy at all but there seemed to be a huge increase in cookies the last month or so to me anyway whether they weren't getting picked up before i don't know. Thanks for putting it up.

I have Ghostery Chrome extension installed, and find Betfair works OK if you have 'Google Tag Manager' set to 'Always allow on Betfair'.
Works absolutely fine if you block the rest
