In Australia, Crown has bought out BF UK, and additionally tried to get BF sportsbook customers to move to their sportsbook offering Beteasy.
Made no difference to exchange users like me so far. Media says it is 'strategic', and I expect changes in the future. Hopefully to the good. Why buy the exchange, which loses money in Australia, if you don't intend to do something with it?

it's the heart and soul of betfair, it's a monopoly that could not be penetrated despite numerous attempts by wanna-be competitors .... and it is also generating record trading volume.....selling an asset like this would be suicide

Agree with fixed and I think Betfair are being honest to an extent with their strategy. The sportsbook being a gateway to the exchange, for those who struggle with the concept, who without joining the sportsbook first would never end up on the exchange.

Yep, I don't think there's some sort of conspiracy going on. Worth noting that the chaps who wanted to buy the exchange a year or two back saw it as being for 'sharks' only. They weren't looking to attract mug punters..
