and keep the sportsbook? Maybe when the sportsbook is completely established. Exchange dying a slow death and the old line about attracting new blood to the sportsbook before introducing them to the exchange rings hollow.

Hopefully sell off new site and keep the old.
Report Oceanfinance May 6, 2015 6:45 PM BST
They don't appear to have any interest in it though.
Report Coachbuster May 6, 2015 10:35 PM BST
they will keep it to stop others getting hold of it

In Australia, Crown has bought out BF UK, and additionally tried to get BF sportsbook customers to move to their sportsbook offering Beteasy.

Made no difference to exchange users like me so far. Media says it is 'strategic', and I expect changes in the future. Hopefully to the good. Why buy the exchange, which loses money in Australia, if you don't intend to do something with it?

I don't understand why they didn't sell it. Why keep a betting exchange if you don't want anyone to use it.
Report Coachbuster May 20, 2015 2:29 PM BST
don't BF use the exchange to benefit their Sportsbook ?   would Sporstbook not work without it ?

i though thats where most of the money is channeled through these days
Report YOMOMMA May 20, 2015 3:33 PM BST
Just that price rush.

isn't that their golden egg ?

it's the heart and soul of betfair, it's a monopoly that could not be penetrated despite numerous attempts by wanna-be competitors .... and it is also generating record trading volume.....selling an asset like this would be suicide
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 21, 2015 10:38 AM BST
Agree with fixed and I think Betfair are being honest to an extent with their strategy.  The sportsbook being a gateway to the exchange, for those who struggle with the concept, who without joining the sportsbook first would never end up on the exchange.

Yep, I don't think there's some sort of conspiracy going on. Worth noting that the chaps who wanted to buy the exchange a year or two back saw it as being for 'sharks' only.  They weren't looking to attract mug punters..
