In general, wat is the average price differential between a horses win price versus its place price? Would the place price be approx 1\4 the win price or is it higher or lower??
TIMEFORM on Betfair has results for past years showing BFSP and place odds and plenty data for you to check out differentials for different types of races...goings....time of year etc etc

If you're prepared to put some work in, importing the data in the files here:
https://promo.betfair.com/betfairsp/prices/
will give you several years worth of data for every UK and Irish horse race.
I wrote some code to import these into my own database last summer - that has proved to be a weekend well spent many times since.

Another consideration is the variance of the horse's performance. A consistent horse priced at 6-1 will have a lower place price than an erratic horse of the same price. For example, many M Johnston horses, probably due to the front running style, can win well or be tailed off, so you will find their place odds longer than other horses of the same price.
