I read about this in a book by Graham Sharp who was the chief odds compiler at William Hill Years ago their was a horse race televised, where well inside the final furlong the horse in question was 10 lengths clear of the field. Tens of thousands where traded greedily backing the 1.01 on the cert. What the tv camera didnt show was a horse on the near side (out of shot of camera) 5 lengths clear of the cert. The cert lost.
Wasn't there audio ? Surely the race caller must have seen and called the race leader correctly; and yet the greedy bastards who didn't do their due diligence filled their boots. NOT.

I heard the story through someone else. I think it was only three or four years ago at Newmarket. They weren't using track commentary. It was their own studio commentary that relied on the camera's. There had been three horses battling that broke away early and all the camera's were focused on them for ages. The camera didn't switch until literally a split second before the line.
I remember the BF forum absolutely exploding as well.
