Haven't heard a peep about them for a couple of years.

Report andyl • June 10, 2013 1:33 PM BST

Report sweetchildofmine • June 10, 2013 1:39 PM BST
seaton burn really? i thought warwick said it was closing a few weeks back
Report kenilworth • June 11, 2013 1:34 PM BST
Used to cost £30 a day in Coventry and that, plus commission,
was, IMO, impossible to overcome.

Andy, when is the Askern shop closing?
Report andyl • June 13, 2013 3:12 PM BST

Elitebet in North London is just about functioning.

Went past Elitebet only about a month ago and looked all closed up to me, but this was about 6pm so they might of closed for the day.

It always looks closed as they keep the shutters down.
Report kenilworth • June 17, 2013 5:36 PM BST
Why have they closed?
Report knuckles • June 17, 2013 6:49 PM BST
closed because shops had turf tv and sis racing pictures....  ruk is same speed as turf tv  and betfair live video is same speed as sis .   therefore no point or advantage in exchange shops anymore
Report kenilworth • June 17, 2013 7:26 PM BST
ok, obviously couldn't make it pay from a level playing field,
with the exes on top.

There was never that much demand anyway as most people who tried a couple of times never came back and there was only ever a small pool of potential customers.  If they couldn't be successful in London, they were unlikely to be that successful anywhere.  The harsh reality is (was) that in-running on the horses is incredibly difficult.  Many tried and failed even with the supposed pic advantages the shop gave them.  Plenty turned up thinking it was free money and just did their bankroll quicker as they thought they had bought a great edge.  A good few made plenty however.
Report sweetchildofmine • June 17, 2013 9:46 PM BST
yeah a few people made a very very good living from it
Report kenilworth • June 18, 2013 8:33 AM BST
...and a lot of people went skint.
Report sweetchildofmine • June 18, 2013 8:48 AM BST
news flash kenny..thats gambling for you
Report kenilworth • June 18, 2013 8:57 AM BST
They thought it was easy, it isn't, it wasn't.
Even for those 'making a very, very good living'
at it. I know what happened at Coventry.
Report sweetchildofmine • June 18, 2013 9:38 AM BST
it was whilst the advantage was significant..you had to be bad at it not to profit but nothing lasts forever
Report katverrat • June 18, 2013 1:10 PM BST
If they couldn't be successful in London, they were unlikely to be that successful anywhere.

can you tell me what logic supports this?
Report Angry Monkey • June 18, 2013 3:06 PM BST
I would have thought the statement was self-explanatory.

London has a bigger population, hence more chance of people wishing to use a trading room from the potential customer pool.
Report katverrat • June 18, 2013 3:30 PM BST
London also costs alot more ....   and trading rooms are not all the same  -  ask andyl -

to say if it cant happen in London .....  is a very narrow minded view  -   take a look north of Watford from time to time and you might learn something
Report Angry Monkey • June 18, 2013 3:58 PM BST
I live just outside Newcastle.

But I have a flat in London and see plenty of business models that could not work elsewhere.

I would say that trading rooms are pretty susceptible to location and customer numbers as per the previous statement - the statement that you are misquoting to help fit your argument.

He said 'unlikely' not 'can't'.
Report katverrat • June 18, 2013 4:46 PM BST
well if you want to split hairs, he said 'if they couldnt be successful in London'

The only argument I'm putting forward is that there is a population outside of London that frequently adapts, innovates and exploits
better then people in the capital city. As is the case here.
Report donny osmond • June 18, 2013 5:20 PM BST
id imagine the rent and rates for the season burn shop would be a lot less than a similar shop in london

but i dont know the spread of betfair users over the uk, have they ever been published ?
Report TheVis • June 18, 2013 7:22 PM BST
My point was just about the huge population on the door step.  I always thought that London would have had plenty of customers for such a service but it never really did.  I don't dispute that they could be, and were, successful in other locations, but equally a good few more outside London also failed quick enough too.
