put 4.1 keep bet on  newcastle in tonight game
game kick off, bet not matched
went 1-0 up, bet not matched
when everton scored to make it 1-1
when market re opened my bet was matched, fair enough
but then i thought
if everton had equalised in the 80th minute
my bet would would have been matched at 4.1
when the true odds would have been around the 12/1 mark
will not be doing that again in a hurry

no, your bet would have been matched at the best price available on reopening of the market, despite your keep bet

his bet @ 4.1 would have been the best price available and sitting there for layers, he wouldn't get any higher as everything is based on a first come first served basis

ahh right, you live and learn..ive never used keep bets, i just assumed the reformed market would over ride the keep bet

thankyou for mentioning this - i also had a fuzzy notion about this being the case with keep bets. You have clarified the matter.
yes - the keep bet will cop for a hopeless price that you wouldn't want

However, i use them on the horses and it works well : £2 on at 10 (say) and then a keep-bet LAY at evens for £2 is my practice at the moment.

not a lot different, in overall outcome, from placing the full e/w bet - at a cost of £4
-so kind of  BIG saving on outlay
you've got the win (minus the tiny lay) if the thing goes on to win : and, well if a horse places, there a goodish (depending on how the race was run, whether it was a close finish or not) chance its IR price will have gone below 2, and voila, you've your stake back
