General Betting

Well after 12 months of trading part time during which I have been researching, testing, learning, winning, losing thinking i have stumbled across the next big thing then realising very quickly that it's never quite that simple!!! i have decided to go full time. I think i have found a few decent strategies that suit my personal style of trading so I am going for it.
I am still very keen to get as much solid advice as possible so all input will be greatfully received. I will be focusing on the horses, football and a bit of golf. I am going to post my daily and running P&L and would be happy to share any futher information if of any interest. Anything I do post will be 100% genuine as one of the reasons for me doing it is to constantly re-evaluate where I am and of course connect and get the views of others.
I started on the 1st September so i have posted my first few days results below.

Trevh, I have just finished a 2 year contract so have decided to concentrate purely on trading for a while. I guess if it doesn't work out i will have go back to contracting!!!. Very up and down results but managed to eek out a profit for the day. I really wasn't being selective over the races due to trying to cram too much into a small space of time. Good start elitesp, don't be put off by the knockers that are bound to give you negative comments, they always find their way onto these threads eventually, just ask Undern...!
You have already highlighted something that needs addressing, being selective, if time doesn't allow you to make your picks then best policy is don't play, you will have good and bad results from such plays but the bad ones will stick in your mind and eventually undermine your confidence in your own ability. i know its early days and youre doing well but your regular football losses are eating into your horse profits...it appears your strength lies in horse racing but as i say its early days and only a very small sample...good luck

I agree with the above.
No good being a Jack of all TRADES.Knock football on the head,already showing the signs. 100% effort on Horses,forget the rest.you'll feel calmer and less stressed.which can only be a good thing. Good Profit so far.shame about those over paid prima donna's though. |

I have been a little surprised by the amount of negativity and angry messages I have received (not those below) but having read through many threads i think it is par for the course!!!!! (it is a gambling forum after all) Thanks all for your comments and advice. Interestingly until this last week I have probably been more successful on football than horses but understand exactly where you are coming from seaview/sweetchild. Sweetchild, the majority of my horse racing trades are in play and some are outcome based. I am still testing which are the best types of races to use hence me trading a lot of races presently ( ultimately race selection will be key as Cork eluded to). Still very early days but at least P&L is positive rather than negative. I really do appreciate your comments so thanks very much, its good to know that some people genuinely want to help. |

Working from an initial 4k but letting it build. To be honest the one race where i did have a bigger bet was following a losing trade but it was my strongest race of the day so did invest more into it than i normally might. My standard staking plan would not normally involve chasing too hard. |

Yes sweet it does but i only bet if i can achieve a certain level of odds for the top 3 in the betting or top 2 in races with low numbers of runners (do sometimes although rarely get top 4). I do also trade out sometimes in running if i hit a certain % profit figure.

How are you getting on sweet, if you don't mind me asking?. Only doing 2 races today 4.35 at York and 5.45 at Fontwell.

only one race today i liked the 4pm at york, dutched the front four, i just couldnt see anything else getting in it and as it worked out mafeteng and the rest were clear of the field so made 35% on the race

Nice work on the 4pm. You may be right about the 4.35pm but have got the first 5 at 1.8 so feels like decent value. 5.45, can't see past the top 2.
