Both will exist for many years to come, but look at the markets on Italy v Croatia Euro 2012 Match Odds right now.

Exchange Price

Italy 2.5 - 2.52
Croatia 3.35 - 3.4
Draw 3.25 - 3.3

Betfair Crack Trading Team Price
Italy 2.25
Croatia 3.3
Draw 3.2

This sportsbook is being put in because it makes Betfair more money than they were making before.  They are clearly looking to take as much business as possible on the shorter prices, e.g. 2.25 on a 2.5 shot.  (Most money wagered will be on the favourite in football matches, so its worth cutting that price back the most, and leaving the others only slightly shorter).  If casual gamblers care little about price, and if the price of 2.25 is a much juicier and profitable wager to lay, surely there has to come a time when to make more money for Betfair shareholders, the Crack Trading Team price will become the first one displayed to Betfair customers.

I'll go 1st June 2014, three months before the 2014 AGM, for when they have the Crack price as the one visible to Betfair customers, and the exchange price will involve going round the houses to find.

yup.

Imagine walking into a shop and seeing the same apples on sale but one lot in one basket costs 25 pence each and another adjacent basket of identical apples costs 20 pence each. The only way of selling the apples for 25 pence is to hide the fact you can buy them for 20 pence. So you put the 20 pence basket right at the back of the store where urgent customers wont see them.

I'm often caught out with this scam by urgently needing to buy an apple

You really think " casual" gamblers are that stupid in the main ?

I think many have hassle-free relationships w/ one bookie, w/ whom they invariably get on at any price the bookie the offering.

If they're betting 20 pounds a go, they don't care about a fiver one match in five.

I'd agree w/ ballabriggs on the fixed odds price coming up first, though I can see an exchange.betfair.com site w/ a back-doors login.

Coral shops were going 2.0 Italy and 3.2 the draw. Risk management is largely about predicting the runner your clients will want to be with, and making sure you don't lose to that result.

Strange.  I'm looking at this and the way they have set it up.

Better odds may be on the Exchange

on the banner.  Does it mean that they will sift through punters who will figure out the exchange?

quick glance at what is on offer and betfair aren't really offering competitive odds on today's football.

- - -

sports book can be used for promo for new punters who don't want to use exchange:  i.e. £20 free bet on betfair's sportsbook.

thus separate to the exchange.
