turned on pc yesterday went to watch race replays online attheraces and there was no sound. tried youtube and the same.

tested speakers and sound card, speaker test worked and soundcard had no problems. no volumes are muted.

did a system restore to day before and everything worked fine thought that was that. turned on today and exactly the same issue no sound on any web sites. can play cd's, test sounds work, start up sound plays, windows media center plays default albums, just cannot playback sounds on websites.

am using windows vista  64 bit (a nightmare recently using flash!, keeps crashing on sites, won't accept flash 11)

tried different browsers but no joy.

actually spent 3 hours today reinstalling operating system and sound/graphics cards etc hoping this may fix problem but no joy.

any help would be greatly appreciated, am not brilliant with this sort of stuff so anything too technical will go straight above head.Sad

Could be Flash - I've installed latest version 3 times and had to revert as it doesn't work.

Possibly a conflict with another add on in your browser

have had big problems with flash, never a sound issue but sites crash and an icon comes up saying missing plugin. all attempts to install this plug in fail.

have heard there are issues with windows vista 64 bit and flash 11 but when using earlier flash versions it keeps wanting to update.

a complete fcuking head ache last 6 months or so. just want to try and get through till new windows is out later in year.

"just want to try and get through till new windows is out later in year."

If you're not on a tablet I think you'll find Windows 8 more of a ridiculous user-kick-in-the-nads than Betfair Beta, by everything I've read.

If you've windows 7 the volume levels can be set per-application. Why not try a different browser instead of a different OS???

This apparently has worked for many others who face the same problems...I also posted it up on the thread in chit chat...

Try this........

Flash No Sound WaveMapper Solution

Launch Registry Editor by typing regedit at Run command.
Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

On the right pane, and check for existance of “wavemapper” registry subkey, the main culprit causing Flash no sound. If not found, create a new String value named “wavemapper”, and give the entry value “msacm32.drv”.

If wavemapper entry already exists, ensure that its value data is “msacm32.drv”.

Also ensure and verify that the msacm32.drv driver file is existing in C:\Windows\System32 folder. If the file is missing in that location, search for other copy of msacm32.drv in the computer, or copy that file from another system.

Thank me later...Grin

I used to have similar issues.  What worked for me was to remove the audio hardware and drivers from the system via control panel, then do a reload of windows, where it finds the new hardware and reinstalls it.

Can't recall exactly what was and wasn't working before I did this, but I know my sound tests worked, and it was a real head ****.

Certainly sounds like a flash issue, but hey, this doesn't take long to check for a quick fix. ?

Reload of windows, obviously just meaning log off, not reinstalling or anything.  Just reboot it.
