I've been betting for 8 years now. I reached my lowest point about 7 months ago and was probably -£8,000 overall. I was contemplating quitting as I wasnt enjoying it anymore and it was taking over my life.
Since then, I have gone on quite a hot streak and have made it all back - mainly due to only focusing on the sports I am actually good at betting on, lots of trading out and not getting too greedy. This has been really hard work and involved a fair amount of luck.
Don't be put off by having a fair amount of luck. All gamblers must have their fair share of that over a long period of time. You seem to know your cricket, so why not just cut back to that, rather than quit everything. Unless of course you can't really afford to gamble/risk anything, and the recovery of your losses has been a godsend. Then by all means quit.

quit mug punting on anything that moves, but you know this
In gambling as in life luck plays a large role in success and failure, anyone who claims otherwise is kidding themselves

I think you are asking permission to quit and should do so.
There are more things to think about than your final PnL. Think of the time invested in betting, the hassle (if any) getting on, what you lose not spending more time w/ friends and family and the emotional cost of the swings in results.
If you have an almost immediate selection and bet placement process for cricket, continue for minuscule amounts and try to work out statistically whether you win through skill. Otherwise, I'd quit.

Green, could you be more specific about what you meant by 'a fair amount of luck'? Do you mean you were staking large sums and everything could easily have gone very wrong, or do you just mean you profited from a few unexpected results going your way?
Also, how much have you enjoyed the last few months of making it back?
