Take the underlying infrastructure, and apply it to the old site. Beta is lightning fast, not clogging up as much memory, so that's a VERY big and important improvement.

For all other changes, it's debatable whether the site will be better or worse.

Personally I think Beta looks quite a lot nicer (many don't even agree with that though), as for functionality, which is way more important, I think Betfair still have a fair bit of work to do, before Beta equals the old site, let alone improves upon it.

beta is ok when not much traffic passing through.
it was a nightmare half hour before the Grand National on Saturday.
Try to get trades on the football was nigh impossible.

Yeah, that was nothing to do with beta specifically though, the whole of Betfair was experiencing problems.

You've struck the nail on the head though. There's too much of a resource improvement for betfair with beta for them to drop it, so they have to plough on with it regardless. This has put them in a **** situation.

I hope they didn't get screwed over by whichever developer house they contracted this out to (assuming it's not in-house) and can work with them to phase through to a Beta2 before "beta" is made final.

Has anyone/users been into Betfair towers to give live feedback on the site?
