I've posted this  in another thread but the thread title is too vague:

This has been happening to me a lot over the last couple of weeks and today is unbearable.

Moving from one market to another often comes up with the message:

Loading.... Please wait while the marker loads

Sometimes the market loads in 10 seconds or so but I usually just close down the tab and open Betfair in a new one.  Which  usually works, but sometimes I need to do this a few times.

I'm using Google Chrome and don't have many windows open.  My PC and internet connection are fine.

I would contact Betfair but they'd just tell me to delete cookies...

The old site has been much better today, but that's nothing unusual as it has good days and bad days.

Communication has been dire.  There a plethora of issues raised and they're either met by silence, a thank you for informing them, or the helpdesk telling us it's a problem at our end.

From the messages I've had with them, they do seem genuine in their desire to listen to us and improve the site(s).  But, as we all know, we're not seeing enough improvements implemented.  In fact, we don't even know if any of the fixes we're asking for will ever be made.

To be frank, if the new site is not fit for purpose by the time they close the old site then it's up to us to contact major shareholders with our concerns.

the real thing i don't get about this, is why betfair haven't made an announcement either on this thread or on the service forum that they are aware of this problem and plan on fixing it.

after the beating they constantly took over poor communication in the past, it appears that the lessons that they seemed so desperate to learn, have proven harder than one might have at first thought.

I'm the same, I've given the new site a go but I can't use it.  I just put up with the Loading... issue on the old site.

I expect the people using the new site are the majority, and the majority are the £2 punters.  I doubt they're really affected by the issues with the new site.  It's primarily heavy users of the site who have the issues, and I expect Betfair would rather us use an API.
Report Coachbuster November 4, 2012 11:50 PM GMT

Report Templeton Peck November 5, 2012 11:00 AM GMT
Coachbuster, yes, the £2 punters are very important and I doubt they have any issues with the new site.

If you look at what's wrong with the new site, it's areas which will affect those of us who place a lot of bets on many markets.

The site's fine if you're just logging on to have £5 on Man Utd to beat Arsenal and then cash out when they're 2-0 up.

I appreciate that this is what you've been told, but it's not true, and it's impossible that it's true.

For some to be beyond repair, it has to be catastrophically broken. The old site capably handled more transactions than the LSE, and when bits of hardware weren't being moved around, or dodgy new functionality being implemented, it was robust. Very robust.

Now, I'm sure it's grown a bit unwieldy and a bit of an IT mess, with any architectural standard (if there was one) slowly being compromised, and that's part of the reason for the new site, which appears to not only be different on the outside, but also under the bonnet, with what looks like a fully RESTful implementation with a whole new load of formats for ids. Concomitant to those changes the API is being changed in the near future as well.

Their argument, no doubt, is that they want to keep investment in supporting the old site to a minimum, as they know it's going to be put to bed soon. This is entirely fair and makes good business sense. I think we all understand that the old site will at some point, be no more.

But the problem is that it hasn't yet. It's still here, and it's still being used and they still have to support it whether they like it or not. They therefore have a duty to formally acknowledge a problem of this magnitude on the service forum, provide an estimate for a fix, and clearly state their workaround.
Report Templeton Peck November 5, 2012 11:47 AM GMT
I don't believe it's true either.  I was merely quoting Betfair's position on the matter, i.e. they will be acting as if the old site's beyond repair.

I started this thread over half a year ago.  I've accepted this issue will not be resolved.

Report jjjjj November 5, 2012 7:22 PM GMT
i try the new site again and again, but its unusable for me. all those options, colours and buttons push the main objective beside. and that would be to place, edit and cancel bets easy and fast. the main buttons are too small. if you have to cancel an inplaybet fast, you have to be skilled with your mouse to be able to strike the little X before clicking "update".

besides i think its got an ugly design. it looks like a cheap website of some dodgy bookmaker. i really dont care about design, but this new website is definately not sth a big company should come up with in the 21. century.

Howie, I often have Betfair open in two browsers (the second one as back-up) after all these loading problems. It's not a guarantee, since there's still a possibility that they will both freeze at the same time, but I feel I'm not as vulnerable with this back-up. To minimize risk of freezing, have correct market up in 2nd browser.

There's a small problem (the confirm button disappears after a bet has been placed) with a certain market on the old site (for all matches) and I raised it with them.  The response from their IT team is that since it only affects the old site, they won't be fixing it.  They're concentrating all their efforts on fixing problems with the new site.

Nothing new I guess, but whilst I'm not surprised they won't fix a slowness issue, I am surprised they won't fix an issue such as this. The disappearance of the confirm button means I can't amend bets or cancel individual bets.

The old site has been stable + fast for me too. It is surely no coincidence that this upgrade in performance has coincided with the reporting of more serious problems with the new site. I also think that Betfair have taken a closer look at their own site usage stats and have found that while many existing users have sampled the new site, the vast majority have reverted to the old.

There are still many things to be resolved before they kill the old site, unless their grand plan is to lose a swathe of their (so far) loyal customer base.
Report Templeton Peck December 10, 2012 9:43 AM GMT
Yep, for the first time since I started this thread 8 months ago, the old site is working perfectly.  Something which wasn't going to be fixed is somehow working properly.  I think it's fair to assume they fixed the old site as the new site isn't fit for purpose.  I think it's also likely that they weren't making as much money as the could because of the old site's loading issues preventing/dissuading us from putting money down.

Hopefully, whatever the reason(s), Betfair will extend the time they keep the old site (which really is nigh on perfect for me)or, even better, keep the old site up and running for good.  The 'fact' their servers can't cope with both sites now appears to have been a bluff.
