Brave Vanessa Riddle 'excited' to carry Scottish Communities League Cup out at Hampden final
Mar 17 2012 by Beverley Lyons
BRAVE Vanessa Riddle holds some famous silverware as she warms up for her Hampden debut with Celtic captain Scott Brown.

The Daily Record fixed it for cancer patient Vanessa to star at the Scottish Communities League Cup after readers helped her raise almost £640,000 for life-saving treatment in the US.
Vanessa will carry the cup on to the pitch with Celtic legend Alan Stubbs andinjured Kilmarnock skipper Manuel Pascali before the final tomorrow.
The 11-year-old, from Loans, Ayrshire, suffers from neuroblastoma – a rare form of cancerthat affects only 100 children in the UK every year.
And yesterday, she couldn’t contain her excitement at carrying the famous cup.
She said: “This is excellent and something I have dreamed about.
“I’m really excited but nervous in case I drop it or something.
“It’s been really really fun to meet Scott Brown and the guys today. One of my friends is actually coming to the game with me on Sunday as well as my family so it’s a big day out.”
Scott was delighted to meet Celtic fan Vanessa after he helped to raise funds for her appeal. He said: “For Vanessa, it’s a great opportunity to walk out with thecup on Sunday.
“I heard about her appeal a while ago and it’s great that it is still going strong.”
Scott posed with the cup for our picture but refused to actually lay hands on it. He explained: “I’m superstitious and never touch the cup before a game – never.”
Stand-in Killie captain James Fowler joked: “It’ll be a good day for Vanessa, but she’s a Celtic fan so I hope she’ll not be celebrating too much at the end.”
Samples of Vanessa’s tumour arebeing sent to doctors in the States for testing before her treatment beginslater this year.
The Hampden trip was an extraboost for her after her last round of chemotherapy in the UK.
Her dad Chris said: “Vanessa has been ****-a-hoop about this.
“It’s tremendous for her to walk outwith legends on to the park.”
