Not a Market i've ever bet on. Expect there is a formula, don't know what it might be.
As a rough attempt to work it out..... If 2.36 is correct for Any goal, then he has a 42.37% chance of scoring, and we assume on average he will play 87 minutes (as even he will occasionally be substitured/injured) then he has a 0.49% chance of scoring in any individual minute. Then it depends when - on average - you'd expect his 1st goal to be scored: say 33 mins So he'd have 54 mins to get another...54 X 0.49 = 26.46% so he would be 3.78 to get a 2nd .If the 2nd was scored on 63 mins, he'd have 24 to get a 3rd... 24 X 0.49 = 11.76% so 8.50 to get a 3rd goal 2.36 X 3.78 X 8.50 = 75.82 |

LOL YOU GET 10/1 ON RONALDO AND MESSI SCORING HATTRICKS
|

Using stats to find the formula...
Ian Wright & Thiery Henry played a total of 659 games for Arsenal, scoring in 296 of those . So their combined 'Anytime Scorer' odds would have been 2.23 Scored 2+ 80/659 = 8.2 Scored 3+ 20/659 = 33 So using the odds to 1 of the anytime you can see that 1.23 X 5.85 gives the price to score 2 or more and 1.23 X 26 gives the hatrick price, adding one for the decimal odds. So then if Messi is 2.36 to score anytime To score 2+ .... 1.36 X 5.85 = 7.95/1 To score 3+ .... 1.36 X 26 = 35/1 The Arsenal stats used might be slightly out as Wiki is down, but that would be a 'ballpark figure' for the formula used IMO |

"YOU GET 10/1 ON RONALDO AND MESSI SCORING HATTRICKS"
So the correct price is likely to be much higher, because everyone wants to back this. |

I KNOW TOTAL MUG BETS.
ANYONE TAKING LESS THAN 50/1 IS A FKING CLOWN |

Is that price just for todays game or are you offering that price every week ?. |

There is a formula using Poisson Probablity but i'm not the one to explain it to you though i can give you an answer. 2.36 = 42.37% chance of scoring This implies Messi's expected number of goals is 0.55. This predicts the following using Poisson 0 Goals 57.7% 1 Goals 31.7% 2 Goals 8.7% 3 Goals 1.6% 4 Goals 0.2% This gives an expected fair price of about 55/1 if the 2.36 price is accurate. That is a big IF though. |

Thanks Ell and Tobermory for your contributions. I appreciate the time you're spending.
So now we have 3 suggestions as to what the fair odds might be 76/1 35/1 and 55/1 Average 55/1 Cheers! |

messi and ronaldo are usually about 4/11 to score A/T in a home game against anyone outside the top 4 so 10-1 about a hat trick is sometimes value
|
|
By:
10-1 would NEVER be value for messi or ronaldo to score a hat trick in a league game.
The only way that price could possibly be justified for a named player to get one would be if Holland or Spain were playing San Marino. |
|
By:
how can you say that - he's got something like 5 hat tricks already this season in about 30 games -you would be quids in this season
Messi has also got at least a couple - dont forget messi and ronaldo take pens and neither get rested when their team are 4 nil up |

To score = 1.50 = 66.6% chance of scoring
This implies that the player is expected to score 1.1 goals This predicts the following using Poisson 0 Goals 33.3% 1 Goals 36.6% 2 Goals 20.1% 3 Goals 7.4% 4 Goals 2.0% 5 Goals 0.4% Messi & Ronaldo both average over a goal a game which suggests that 10/1 could be value against a number of weaker than average teams. |

Ell,
I understand the %age of probability for 0 goals but how do you get the probabilities for 1 goal, 2 goals.... Is there a Poisson formula or calculator you could share? THanks for your help |
|
By:
Let x denote the parameter then for values of k,0,1,2,3....
(e^-x)*[(x)^k]/k! |
|
By:
Thanks for the reply Dunlaying but I don't get the formula...
Could you give me an example with Ell's data about Messi? Thanks very much! 2.36 = 42.37% chance of scoring This implies Messi's expected number of goals is 0.55. This predicts the following using Poisson 0 Goals 57.7% 1 Goals 31.7% 2 Goals 8.7% 3 Goals 1.6% 4 Goals 0.2% |

I will do my best for you and leave it in your message box.It will not be today though.

Thanks Dunlaying, much appreciated. I know Saturday's a busy day....

Maths aside, remember that a team winning by a large margin may try to get the ball to someone who has scored two goals, let them take a penalty they might not usually, etc etc.
Not a huge influence, but it's likely that all straight up calculations will be too high a price. |
|

Interesting Lori, but on the other hand a good player (likely to score a hattrick) might be substituted after 1 or 2 goals to better recover for a more important game....
Both the use of (magical) formulas and the consideration of all the other 'human' factors is the magic of betting! |
|
By:
Agree 10/1 might be right for Ronaldo vs relegation standard , but tommorow he is 6/1 vs Bilbao who are in 6th place
![]() |
|
By:
6/1 hattrick = 1.3 goals expected = 1.37 to score
Wouldn't back it myself but not much value in laying it either. |
|
By:
"not much value in laying it either"
Are you on a windup? ![]() ![]() ![]() That would be one of the best value lays in betting history. No money waiting to back now, but if there was, anyone who turned it down at around that price should just give up gambling full stop. |

Please enlighten us with your wisdom. Ronaldo has played in 30 games this season scoring 27 goals including 5 hattricks. What price would you lay at ?. And How Much ? |
|
By:
Against the sixth place team in the league, I'd happily lay at anything up to 16s. Of course I won't have to as mugs are happy with far less.
How much? That's my business, and totally irrelevant to the topic. |
|
By:
"I'd happily lay at anything up to 16s. Of course I won't have to as mugs are happy with far less."
Why am i not surprised ? Hope you weren't laying this last year when a hattrick was scored against a top 6 team. |
|
By:
I think the Poisson method is pretty reasonable. I use it for similar purposes.
|
|
By:
"Hope you weren't laying this last year when a hattrick was scored against a top 6 team"
Yeah, because one hat trick against that strength of side really proves it's a poor lay ![]() Go on then, enlighten me as to how many hat tricks he has scored against top 6 sides, say for the last five years, as you seem to have all the figures as your disposal? |
|
By:
"Yeah, because one hat trick against that strength of side really proves it's a poor lay "
As it happened 3 times last season you might think otherwise. |
|
By:
Any chance you could provide all stats from recent seasons, rather than just the ones that suit you?
|
|
By:
I would think 6/1 would be a good value lay, Hatrick scored on here looks like being about 5/1 which includes all the other strikers . 3/1 is just preposterous.
Last sesaons stats may be skewed a bit by how incredibly indulgent RM were to Ronaldo .What Lori says about teamates looking to set him up was happening, not just when the game was safe, but (in the last month when the league was gone) from the kick off in a few games, as they had decided to help him get the scoring record. By my reasoning of multiplying the Anytime price by 25 or so would have him around 12 or 14/1 here , though the To Score price may be overbet and too short. |
|
By:
The only relevant stats are the 2 seasons at Real.
All 90 games 12 Hattricks Cup 15 Games 1 Hattrick Champions League 17 Games 0 Hattricks Primera 58 Games 11 Hattricks You could make a case for laying against Barcelona, Valencia or a cup game. Also he's only scored in about half of these games and you could argue that he's a lay to score at short odds on. Laying a hattrick in the Primera seems a one way trip to the poor house. |
|
By:
Maybe right in that he is too short for Anytime rather than hatricks usually , which suggests there are a lot of teams in Spain who give up once they fall a couple behind.
|
|
By:
Didn't realize you could back individual players to score hatricks on here
Ronaldo matched berween 7.2 and 8.8 |
|
By:
Well, I am delighted to lay at between 6 and 7/1, thanks to the OP for pointing out this topic.
It is interesting to note that one of the major bookies was offerring 8/1, earlier today, and that was in the full knowledge that mugs will back it virtually regardless of what price is offered. It backs up my point of view that the correct price should be double figures against a decent side who is 6th, probably around the 16s that I mentioned earlier! |

In fact, one company was going 10/1 3 days ago, just looking at the history...
