Try clicking on control panel, click 'Control Panel Home' and under 'Appearance and Personalization' click on 'Adjust screen resolution'. I'm a vista laptop as well so hopefully that will be the same on your laptop.

wolf, it sounds like it is sharing the image between two monitors. See if there is an option to get back to single display. As zapper says try clicking on monitor 1.
