that is why look at the "utility" of betting as opposed to the absolute maximising of ones profit.

Keep records and ask yourself "Why do I gamble?"

If it is purely to make money, then unless you can identify a clear edge on each bet, give up and do something more profitable with your time.

If it is for fun then buy your fun at the cheapest possible price - don't overstake and try and get the best price every time.

With industry wide markets as they are, it is possible for everybody to get loads of action and stand a fighting chance of ending 2012 in profit.

JTG, what do you mean by identify a clear edge on each bet ?

Are you saying that you know you have a edge when placing bets or is it that you only think you have it ?

If it's the latter I agree, but I don't see how anyone can know that each individual bet placed has value as long as we are talking of sportsbetting.

Ask yourself before each bet - "What is my edge here?"

I agree that it's your opinion - it's only your p@l that can tell you if you are right on a long term basis - and even then don't get carried away, you might just be a lucky chimp!

i'm well ahead over my lifetime but have probably recouped much of what my Dad lost over his lifetime - funny how these things even out .

no doubt there are many millionaires alive whose own fortune will one day be spent on drugs etc
