good question. been wondering about this didnt bother to ask though
By:
I don't know about others, but I completely zone out of any and everything thing involving astonomical long odds. They're all obviously some tricky type trap play, so why even give them the time of day ?
By:
It's not trap play Frog, some punters like to back the 1000.0's offered after a goal to free up their bank to use again.
Captain Frank, I've seen similar, but have you actually tried backing any of the odds that appear immediately? I suspect the money isn't really there. I've noticed many times that after a goal the 0-1 will come up immediately with the same odds as before the goal, but it disappears when I try to back it, like some sort of ghost glitch in the system. I use Gruss on a 1 second refresh. |
By:
Furillo, I was just speaking to Belker, and he thinks that it's probably because Betfair have switched on the keep bet function for correct score a few weeks ago, which perhaps the Srg didn't pass onto you.
I don't think city hall is on your back ![]() |
By:
Oh PS yes betfair don't on their web interface for some unexplained reason have the keep bet box, I've pointed this out myself before as it's inconsistant as you can't un-keep a bet in play using the web interface when API apps can do it. And so they should, the problem here is the web application not the API.
The lack of a box is misleading as it clearly IMPLIES the keep bet is only "keep until in play" but the functionality is NOT that, as bets can be kept over goals etc, so the API is correct to allow it. The web app catches people out. |
By:
Not every bet at 1000s is for that reason Trev. They really shouldn't allow it IMO.
By:
What else could they do then? 1000s can be quite useful (I don't lay them myself) as you can instantly "see" the state of play, e.g. the score, by looking at a market and without actually seeing the score. For people who hate hate trap betting (most of us) perhaps they should be set at 1000 by BF themselves and matching disabled however, on what are impossible lines. ..
.. actually scratch that, they'd likely c*ck it up and also taken even longer to unsuspend especially in small games. |
By:
I've no qualms about 1000 being offered on impossible scores, if fact one of my mates regularly uses it to green up and release funds on his 0-0 lay if a goal is scored so he can move on to another game.
I'm just wondering how it's now possible to keep these lays in at 1000 as it hasn't been possible until recently. Todays Chelsea/Villa game so far has had £187 matched at 1000 on the 0-0, quite a bit was matched after the equaliser so if someone has the ability to keep their lays in the system while others cannot surely this is unfair. Maybe after the carry on at Leopardstown this week I'm just being cynical but any chance this could this be Befairs money ? |
By:
Haven't you read the replies ?
JC has told you that it's possible to make inplay bets keep bets when going through the API. |
By:
Just looked on beta and keep bets are still not an option in the correct score market.
By:
*in play
By:
Eddie, JC didn't say that and it isn't true, you can't keep a bet in the c/s market after k/o, you can only cancel any bets that have been kept.
I don't understand what you're saying about keeping bets anyway JC, as you can't put up a 1000.0 lay and keep it, well you could but you'd soon be bankrupt. I can only think that what you're seeing is old odds that aren't really there Captain F, I'll watch a bit closer tomorrow though. |
By:
"Eddie, JC didn't say that and it isn't true, you can't keep a bet in the c/s market after k/o"
Yes. You can. I told you they can, do you think I'm making it up? They put this in a few weeks ago. Given nobody else is contradicting what I'm saying and are in fact backing me up, and it explains things perfectly with no conspiracy theory or bugs required, why are you arguing? |
By:
And the other thing I'm on about, that also ties in (keep bets option disappears but it's still 'there'), has existed on the OTHER markets, for as long as I remember.
By:
3rd post in a row (bad luck?) but rather than imply I'm a bullsh*tter rather than take the 30 seconds to go check, go onto a correct score market and make a keep in play bet/lay NOW on a future match. Come back and tell us how you get on, I think you'll find JC is correct and it will work fine, and all this talk of nailing poor JC to a cross for betfair forum lies was premature.
And happy new year :P |
By:
Calm down and read what I posted again JC, thanks.
By:
And STILL you're arguing. FFS. I've read what you said and understood it the first time and you are making completely inaccurate statements. What part don't you understand of what I said? How many times do I have to say it?
You CAN now keep correct score bets after kick off. I've done it. If you don't believe me.. OK Quite frankly this is coming across as sheer pigheadedness and rather than blindly argue in your struggle as man against reality, I suggest you go try it, then come back, I've got better things to do tonight than argue about this. |
By:
rather than take the 30 seconds to go check, go onto a correct score market and make a keep in play bet/lay NOW on a future match. Come back and tell us how you get on, I think you'll find JC is correct and it will work fine
Of course it will work fine on a future match because it isn't even in-play. There is no facility on my software (Gruss) to make and keep a correct score market bet after kick off. Which software are you using to do this? |
By:
"Of course it will work fine on a future match because it isn't even in-play."
Actually, previously it didn't. It was either not there on the web interface or didn't work, can't remember which, actually I think not just there. There was a guy on the forum who regularly complained about it (Rs1 was it? banned now I think?). They made an announcement on forums about enabling it, which sadly I can't now see. But now it IS available, in play, just like any other keep bet-able market, like match odds. IF Gruss doesn't allow it, I'd check if an update does do it, or complain to Gruss. Anyone who pays attention to the CS market will notice that now the markets don't "fill up" after kick off like it always used to as there were no keep bets at all, it's instantly filled with at least some bets from the second it kicks off. This is also new, and if anything more noticable than the OPs observation. Trust me, I've no reason to make this up, I'll joke around but I don't B/S when talking 'serious' stuff, and it explains everything, I don't like the implication I'm lying! And happy new year! Next question : best cure for a hangover? ![]() |

Cheers brendan I had a quick look and couldn't see it, but I thought it was like 2 months ago, didn't think it was far back as AUGUST, I thought they'd removed it. Dear god time is just flying by...

By:
When you edit a keep bet by changing the odds or stake any new bets are also keep bets. So you can put up a keep bet at 1.01 and change to 1000 after the first goal.
By:
Thank you blank, that answers the Captain's question.
JC, you've missed the point of the thread, we all know that keep bets has been active in the c/s market for some time. What isn't available is adding a new keep bet after kick off which you have implied because you haven't understood the question. The guy that complained the most was Rocket to the face, and of course Gruss facilitates keep bets, just not after kick off as that doesn't exist. |
By:
Jesus h christ. Are you a troll? Are you on the wind up? What part of
"You CAN now keep correct score bets after kick off. I've done it." is so difficult to understand? I really can't believe I'm having to repeat this so many times, it's becoming tiresome. The only person who seems to be having difficulty understanding is a Trevh. Everyone else on the thread, except you, seems to accept what is simple fact, as explained early yesterday afternoon, many posts ago. You do understand the idea that because Gruss doesn't do it, doesn't mean it can't be done? That thinking is a grade A logical fallacy. You do get that don't you? Ok i'll repeat it, read this until you understand it: You CAN now keep correct score bets after kick off. I've done it. You CAN now keep correct score bets after kick off. I've done it. You CAN now keep correct score bets after kick off. I've done it. *shakes head* |
By:
Oh and "But now it IS available, in play, just like any other keep bet-able market, like match odds. IF Gruss doesn't allow it, I'd check if an update does do it, or complain to Gruss."
I really don't understand how I could have made this any more clear. Is anyone else apart from Trevh having difficulty understanding this?!?!?!?!?! |
By:
You really are a patronising character, I avoid the football forum because of posters like yourself.
Anyone who pays attention to the CS market will notice that now the markets don't "fill up" after kick off like it always used to as there were no keep bets at all, it's instantly filled with at least some bets from the second it kicks off. This is also new, and if anything more noticable than the OPs observation. Why bother stating that, you're simply stating that keep bets exists and we all know that already, thus confusing the point of the thread. Why link to an old thread when BF introduced keep bets to the c/s market, we all know that already. rather than take the 30 seconds to go check, go onto a correct score market and make a keep in play bet/lay NOW on a future match. Come back and tell us how you get on, I think you'll find JC is correct and it will work fine Why state that, it's totally irrelevant to the question of being able to keep bets after kick off. |
By:
I'm actually a fairly polite easy going person, but you are in effect calling me a liar, which, oddly enough offends me.
"Why bother stating that, you're simply stating that keep bets exists and we all know that already, thus confusing the point of the thread." I state it as it proves that correct score is now a keep bet market. Stick with me, this is important. "Why link to an old thread when BF introduced keep bets to the c/s market, we all know that already." I didn't, brendan did. "Why state that, it's totally irrelevant to the question of being able to keep bets after kick off. " It's entirely relevant. Keeps bets is a standard feature. They all act the same. Once "keep bets" was turned on, I, as I'm sure I've already explained, as I'm a nice helpful guy, they can be set keep bet / cancel bet via the API. Like any other keep bet market, they are all the same. I've explained this. In my second post in this thread. It's inconsistant with the web interface, but the API allows it. I explained this. I don't give a **** what gruss does. I give up. Sorry to others if I appear arrogant, but this Trevh really takes the biscuit, I do NOT like being called a b/s-er when I'm trying to be helpful to people, and suffering fools wasn't in my new year resolution list :( |
By:
Oh and PS, perhaps if you don't say things like :
"JC, you've missed the point of the thread, we all know that keep bets has been active in the c/s market for some time. What isn't available is adding a new keep bet after kick off which you have implied because you haven't understood the question." You might NOT get responses like I just gave you. If you can't take it, don't dish it out. |
By:
JC, it actually looks as if you have missed the point of the thread.
We are talking about placing our first bet on a correct score market after kickoff and making that bet a keep bet. |
By:
For the love of god I'm not missing ANYTHING here! What is so hard to grasp here? How many times do I have to repeat this!!!!
You CAN now keep correct score bets after kick off. I've done it. You can do it to ANY bet as far as I'm aware after the match via the API, there is absolutely nothing special about correct score bets, enabling keep bets on them enabled this 'feature'. It's that simple. I've explained this over and over and over and over and over and how the web interfaces doesn't allow it but the API does, and it's still not sinking in so sorry if I'm sounding exasperated :( I really can't understand what the problem is here. You can do it. I'm telling you you can do it. Either people accept that, or you're calling me a liar. And it explains everything, quite simply. There is no conspiracy, no bug or wierdness at betfair, no difficulty, so why are people doubting me? I cannot fathom why two days later I'm STILL having to repeat this ![]() You CAN keep correct score bets after kick off ... and breathe ![]() ![]() |
By:
I have to say, I find it strange that several of you think that JC is missing something.
His first reply was basically the most straightforward answer to the original question: So how is it possible to 'keep' these 1000 lays in play as I can't see a keep button on my bets page after the game has kicked off, only pre-game. Is this a feature on Gruss or the Geek ? Are some customers being given special privileges or is it Betfair helping themselves to some easy money ? As JC says, it is possible through the API but not the web site. (I don't know whether any 3rd party apps allow it). Through the API, when a bet is submitted, it is possible to set the bet persistence status as either NONE (ie will cancel following a goal/penalty/red card) or KEEP (won't cancel following . . ") whether or not the event is currently in-play or not. Whereas the web site only allows one to choose between these two options if the event has yet to go in-play. |
By:
The REAL problem here is that if you make a keep bet pre kick off, you can't unkeep bet it after kick off using the web site, which as I said at the top (and previously on this very forum in other threads) is inconsistant. Using the web interface you would have to cancel and place the bet again, losing place in the queue if that matters to you. With the API you can keep/unkeep bets at your leisure, which is the way it should be, the API is doing what you'd expect, it's the website that is wrong. As I think I said, the web site implies the keep bet is only for kick off, due to fact after kick off the feature disappears. Anyone not in the know would clearly take from that it was just "keep going into kick off". But the reality is it's applied across goals etc, so it SHOULD be available in play on the web site as well, at all times.

By:
Thank you contrarian, I thought for a minute I'd went through the looking glass and had lost my ability to communicate (which normally only happens due to vodka ;P)
By:
And in relation to the practice of users submitting keep lay bets at 1000 on the impossible correct scores, it is worth noting that even if Betfair were to allow web interface users to do this, it wouldn't really help them as they'd always be beaten to the front of the queue by the API users anyway!
By:
Whereas the web site only allows one to choose between these two options if the event has yet to go in-play.
Yes thanks Contrarian for a civilised tone and a simple clear explanation. I think I misunderstood JC mainly because of his condescending tone more than anything, patronising and full of paranoia. Right, that's that one cleared up then, anything else we can help you with Captain Frank, or daren't you ask? ;) |
By:
Eddie the eagle understood what I'd said straight off (as did contrarian), and told you that I'd said you can keep bets in play. You said you couldn't, and I told you that you could, yet you just wouldn't accept this.
You: "Eddie, JC didn't say that and it isn't true, you can't keep a bet in the c/s market after k/o" Me: "Yes. You can." This was two days ago. How much clearer can you get than that? If you'd just accepted this fact this "argument" wouldn't have bappened! I started off as polite as you like. The reason my tone changed is I'm sitting here knowing for a 100% fact that you can keep bets in play using the API, I'm repeating it, and you are stating that you can't, and not only that, that I somehow don't understand the original question or what you've said, when I clearly have. I understood it and answered it, correctly .. Last year .Anyway, moving on ... |
