It was a throwaway comment!  You either understand a certain type of dialogue that can be classed as 'Pinteresque' or you don't.  Seems Rob did, and I'm sure Frog and (definitely) Coolhand would as well.  I can't really explain it to you... (Well, not without making you attend several hours of lectures first!!)

if you went up to 50 people on your local high street tomorrow, and then 50 people waiting at your local town train station and asked them if they were familiar with the works of Pinter (more than just knowing his name) and what Pinteresque means, what percentage would be able to genuinely regail you with a few titbits about his work, do you think?

Probably not many. But being only as thick as the majority of people in this country (most of whom know staggeringly little about anything that doesn't concern their pointless jobs, their favourite tipple, or what happened in the latest episode of Eastenders) doesn't make you not thick.

Whenever we make assumptions about you Paul, we're right!  Just accept you're a cultural dunderhead and a bit of a thicket compared to the likes of Frog, Cat and friends, and don't be so defensive about it.

Yeah. I walked right into calling you a big fat tool. Well, that taught me!  Cry

Will the last person to leave Toolsville (that'll be you Frim) please put the light out.

No Paul. I didn't 'miss' the reference. Your references have all the subtlety of a herd of rhinos crashing into a steamroller.

Well you're not even fit to get in the last word in a conversation with a deaf mute, so it's got to be down to me to finish it.

Pinter ? Never heard of him.
You didn't mean punter did you ?
After all this is a gambling forum .
Btw boys, tks. for that last page of wit and repartee.
Most enjoyable and entertaining to read.
Hope you all wake up refreshed, ready to come up with some more goodies.
Nothing like a good stoush to get the juices flowing.

Well I've finally made Frim quit in exasperation (knew I could do it if I hung around long enough!), so I'm off for a good sleep myself.

The night-shift's all yours Frog. Farewell.

Btw Frimmy if I was your boxing coach I'd be screaming at you to take a dive and stay down.
But you wouldn't listen I know.
You're certainly a gutsy little fella, and certainly can take a punch.
Just don't keep taking them just to prove some sort of point.
Not worth it.

Paul, most people down here are Ex Public Schoolboys born with 24 carat gold-diamond encrusted spoons in their mouths who deliberately look down upon you to make themselves feel superior, reading some of the comments, your intellect has been called into question simply because you don't or didn't understand certain things - how can you learn if you don't ask questions, we all learn at different rates and speeds so never shy away from asking things. I would say try not to curse viciously simply because it won't get you anywhere.

I look down on Paul not primarily because he's stupid (although he has got the wrong end of the stick far more times than I can remember being the case with any other poster), but because he's a nasty vindictive little creature.

He's still chasing after Green Viking and Coolhand, posting up spiteful comments about them wherever he can, just because of a little bit of banter they indulged in months and months ago. Anyone who appears to disagree with Paul is branded a horrible individual by him, and their name goes up on his (rather long) hate list. He's a bully and a coward. And he also believes he's a lot better than he is. That's why I hate him.  (Nothing to do with being a public schoolboy - my upbringing was comfortable but certainly not privileged.)

He spends most of his time on here chasing up every little slight (perceived or otherwise). The sad thing is, if he had taken that energy and tenacity and time spent, and turned it instead to learning about betting, he'd be an awful lot better at the game now then he is.

Up until last night, I had barely said a word to Paul for a couple of months. I'd hardly given him a thought in all that time. However, I am familiar with his particularly nasty modus operandi, and I have been noticing him slipping back to his old ways on the football thread recently.

I also don't like the idea of him starting a thread so that he can berate GV. And I don't like him launching yet another series of attacks on Coolhand when CH has barely even said anything to him for months. I could just block the nasty little so and so, but I'd prefer to take him on and put him in his place instead. I don't like people hurling abuse around the way that pitiful little creature does.

By the way, I never intended a 'literary debate' last night. The Pinter thing was genuinely a flip comment I posted on the spur of the moment, and I didn't expect any replies to it. However, it did occur to me as I was pressing the post button that Paul probably wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about. His confirmation of that made me titter, and I couldn't resist a follow-up to the snide gutless little beggar. It escalated from there. Paul really should know when he's not going to win. He has all the sophistication of a box of rocks, so his energy would be better spent elsewhere.

I won't be around much tonight, so I'll try and resist the urge to have another 'debate' with the fetid little cretin.
