Just a quick question. I've backed someone at big odds (150/1) who is now down to (3/1) in a field of 3 at similar odds, so I can now lay against my selection to "green-screen" the field. The question is, do I need to actually have the liability amount required in my account to go through with laying, or does this not matter as I can't lose anyway?
I haven't decided whether I actually want to lay yet so can't try it. just want to know if it's an option.
Cheers!
(and yes, I'm ashamed to say this is the xfactor winner market!)
I think you must really know the answer to all your questions and are perhaps just trying to broadcast your " coup" ? Nothing wrong with that in essence. Btw if you ever try to make any wager on BF and you come up short in their " net" liability calculations ( which are done virtually instantaneously by the BF computers) it will not let you proceed. But you probably know that as well don't you ?

Not at all. Apologies if it seemed like I was bragging - that's genuinely not my intention. I have no idea if I have the option open to me to lay this bet, and still don't after your reply.
I do not have the liability required to cover the amount I'd want to lay on it's own. But seeing as I'd be green-screening, I'm not sure if betfair would require the funds to be there anyway?
Maybe I'm not making sense, and presumably you get lots of braggers on here?
I don't want to go through with trying it, because I might choose not to trade this one off and just hope my selection wins. I was therefore hoping someone on here could help and let mek now if I have the option or not.

The answer is yes. And imo you would be extremely ill advised not to trade out of your original bet after such a huge movement in odds in your favour. But I know nothing of the Xfactor game/show, and would leave others to better advise you perhaps on that particular angle. But in general gambling terms you are certainly sitting pretty and it would be a pity to blow it all imo. I don't know your original bet size, but perhaps just trade a certain portion of it ?

That's very good to know I've got the option. I only staked £20 overall (couple have fallen by the wayside), so I don't really stand to lose much. I know the smart thing to do is to take it and run, but could be kicking myself on Sunday night if my selection wins. I could take £230 now then, or leave it and hope to get £910.
I did place the bet assuming odds would tumble so I guess I should stick to my original intention. Thanks for the reply.

If you lay off on the same line on the same market the maths is simple, it means it comes out of your winnings and betfair can calculate this so unless something is wierd you don't need more money.
BUT: If you "lay off" by e.g. backing remaining rivals to try and achieve the same monetary result, I'm fairly sure you'd need more money.
To clarify FAFH's already correct answer:If you lay off on the same line on the same market the maths is simple, it means it comes out of your winnings and betfair can calculate this so unless something is wierd you don't need more money.BUT: If you
Backing both would need more money temporarily since betfair doesn't know that they will both get matched, you might only get one of the bets matched and therefore would increase your liability on the back that didn't get matched.
If you put 20 on at 150 and it's now at 3, then your current board looks like:
2980 -20 -20
If you lay 1000@3 then your board will look like
980 980 980
No?
Oh, you're not talking decimals. In that case:
Your current board is 3000 -20 -20
And you'd need to lay 755@4 to make it
735 735 735
