A friend of mine owes a bookmaker a few grand

1) Are these legally recoverable by law now?

&

2) If not, does it mean a bad credit rating?

PS It's not me lol

Thanks in advance

GT a few years ago gambling debts were not recoverable by law but I am sure they had either changed the law or were planning to do so.
I think it can affect your credit rating as well.

So why the question ?
Report GT • November 28, 2011 11:00 PM GMT
because his bank (fraud dept) made the bookmaker pay the stakes back into his account as they had been taken from the acc a long time after the wagers had been placed

Old punters story.

A well known punter down on his luck got a visit from the toe-cutters, telling him that if he didnt settle his debts with a few bookies he'd lose a toe for every month he was late.

His reply is legend: he was relieved that he still had 10 months to pay.

Tell your friend to declare the losing bets palpable error, and refuse to pay on that basis.
