Hi,

Would anyone please be able to provide a link or some info on the duration of the In-Play delays imposed by Betfair on markets?

As far as I am aware the In-Play delay varies depending on the sport but might also vary with the individuals markets associated with that sport?

Rs1 is correct. It's impossible to have a back keep bet @ 1.25 if the kickoff price was higher.
Anyone saying otherwise doesn't understand the basic of keep bets.
Report Joel November 16, 2011 6:34 AM GMT
I agree with Eddie, a lay bet is quite possible but not a back bet.

We've been through this on a previous thread.

Trevh is right. I trade every single big football match there is, and I have NEVER seen the phenomenon you are referring to.

for those of you dont no RS1.. here is a few facts from him. He once came on the forum a couple of months ago asking people who to cancel and unmatched bet in play because he accidentally layed 300/1 instead of 30/1. This thread was legendary, and it went on for hours and days. People tried to explain to him how to cancel it but he still wouldnt understand..... eventually everyone had enough and just started taking the p1ss out of him.... so like any embarassed forumite he cried to betfair who then had the thread removed.

Report longbridge November 16, 2011 1:34 PM GMT
And for those who prefer sensible answers to conspiracy theories, how about this one?

The 'back' prices RS1 sees immediately after a suspension are other punters' unmatched 'keep' lay bets.

The 'lay' prices he sees at the same time are the implied lay prices generated by the cross-matcher (since laying Man U is like backing Chelsea and the Draw in the right proportions, etc).

Reasonable?

In order to have a lower than kickoff price crossmatching back bet derived from other lay bets there would have to be keep lay bets with higher than kickoff prices on the other two outcomes, and that is not possible as they would have been matched pre kickoff.

Erm yes Numbers do mean something. There a reason why Christianity and Islam dominate the world in terms of population. its because the 'core' values and beliefs are shared and agreed on. That is also the reason for why Sikhism only manage 25 million in the world.

How anyone with half a brain can even contemplate the concept of a God is beyond me. But in reality religion has nothing to do with a real thing we call God anyway. Its about control and manipulation of the great unwashed. Scare the sh1t out of people by inventing an unseen entity that will do them harm if they dont follow the rules and you have a recipe for control.

Most organised religions are disgusting regimes which are cloaked in a veneer of sanctity.

This conversation is developing into an infantile slanging match and is not necessary. It doesn't help that it has not been explained to you up to now but RS1 it is very wrong to make such wild accusations at the best of times, but making it using Betfair's own facilities is very dangerous and could lead to a ban. You are wrong and here is the very simple answer as to why.

When you see a back of 1.24 after a game suspends this is from a layer who has kept his lay in the market and it appears as money available to back. I trade football matches all the time and I have not seen any circumstance where I have ever had to question the market process.

Report Eddie the eagle November 17, 2011 8:52 AM GMT
HA, I usually don't trade football matches so I can't say if he is right or wrong, but he has a point if there as soon as a market reopen are prices on both sides which both are lower than kickoff price. This is in theory impossible.
Report modk November 17, 2011 8:58 AM GMT
Andy, in your example he is not referring to the keep bet (lay) which has been left in at 1.24 (appearing the blue box) once the market reopens, but the 50k new bet waiting in the at 1.25 in the purple box which appears to get in before everyone else.

As myself and several others have pointed out, this will be down to him having a slower inteface to the server.

RS1 is perfectly right. I had same issue and BF still not answer to me for over 6 months. My point then was the same but instead of match odds market for the correct score markets.
Whan the result is changed (a goal is scored) on the impossible selection appeard ammount at odd of 1000. I mean when the result have been 0:0 and TEAM A scores a goal - after the goal on SELECTION 0:0 for correct score are appearing bets without delay time. They told to me that this is a keep- bet - are they nuts lay at 1000 odd at possible income with keep bet!! it will be matched immediatley at best availiable price. So after that they try to explain that is because of refreshing the site - i am seeing it to late. I did explain that i am using an API application. So the insist that is because of refresh rates of the application. I set them 2 days just to observe - to the very minimum - 0.01 second refresh rate.
It was the same - suspension was lifted and bets were there (sometimes). So i had to discuss this with the API vendor - and still - yes they told me that it not suppose to be in that way. BF developers did not answer to thier emails if there is something wrong with providing data with the API. And that was all - no hear from BF. For now on a small games most of them this is not happening i do not have any idea what is on biggest games for inplay.

On Tuesday I was watching the 2.00 at Folkestone (a 3 runner beginners chase) on my television. The runners were nowhere near a fence when suddenly the 1/7 fav went from long odds on to 1000 in one go. Loads was matched at all prices from about 1.20 through to 1000. Then suddenly about 8 seconds later when they got to the next fence - it fell. Somebody is clearly beating the clock here.

I was expecting a searching article by one of the fine investigative journalists in the trade paper the next day - but no mention. Maybe they or ATR or BF are still looking into it. Laugh

I suspect its the same case for you Karakondjur1.

By the time you see the SUSPENDED dissapear and the market reopen, the market actually reopened several seconds ago and the 1st update you receive from the server is a market with lays of 1000 on all the dead correct scores.

@modk - i know by default (a lot experience) that i am not the always with the fastest bets placed. So lets assume that this 1st price on dead correct scores. How does appeard so fast. By fast i mean
1. With the re-opening of the market
2. Sometimes is not with the reopening immediatley - maybe with less than a second delay. How can you explain that really? I do not have a propper explanation - i have tried everything - one more time - with fastest refresh rate on API aplication - i suppose to se when the market is re-open almost a second after that. On top of that - i am openning the intereface and click constantly with the mouse to place a bet - yes i got message that market is suspended - but i in that way i can see exactly when the suspension is lifted.
So any ideas why this bets like - lay @ 1000 at imposible outcomes.
