Hi guys, any of you been following the X-Factor? I've been betting on it and asked Betfair for clarification of 'Any Other Act' when they decided that a name change wasn't sufficient to qualify.
Anyway, in an email requesting clarification from Betfair regarding Any Other's purpose, this was the Betfair Helpdesks response:
Thank you for your e-mail. Please be advised our market operations team have advised the following regarding your enquiry: If Rhythmix’s name is changed then all bets will stand on that runner. The runner will stay as Rhythmix and a line added to the text(rules) clarifying that they are the same runner as the newly named group. Nothing has changed with them and they are the same entity they always have been. ‘Any Other Act’ is to cover different scenarios such as a new act coming into the show or two acts joining together to form a new act. I hope this helps to clarify the situation. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries. Kind regards, Paul Raymond
Surely under this clarification The Risk qualify as Any Other due to a change in entity? What do you guys think? There is £43 available at 1000/1 on 'Any Other Act' in the X-Factor market...too good to be true considering the clarification?
When Betfair is satisfied, using all reasonable discretion, that it is unlikely further contestants will enter The X Factor 2011, the runner 'Any Other' will be added to this market. At this stage the market will be set to 'Complete'. Thereafter, any further contestants would be included under 'Any Other'. This market will not be partially settled until the winner is known.
Seems pretty clear to me. Maybe that's why 1000 is still available.

but there is a new act in the market called Little Mix which is trading under Rhythmix...this rule was added after they put that text in the market, so I asked for clarification and that is in the email above.

I suppose swapping a member of The Risk for one of the eliminated New Vibe could arguably be a new act but as they still have the same name and bf have not stated that they are a new act, that's why any other remains at 1000. As your chances of success at arguing that they are and getting bf to settle as any other (if they win) are probably less than 1000-1 anyway, I think you're p!ssing in the wind, so to speak.

what if the risk decide to change their name ? would they then be considered as a new act? interesting one to ponder . i would still probably say no . because the new member and name change didnt happen simultaneously , but what if they had , and decided to call themselves Nu Risk or The Vibe

"If The Risk had been a duet and one of them pulled out mid series to be replaced by someone else, would that have impacted on people's interpretation?"
Only if they were "players of the pink oboe"
