Is it just me that finds this annoying?

Football match kicks off. Goal scored. You know which way odds should go so you place a bet and leave it a bit. You check back, another goal scored a lengthy period later. You check graph : odds went right through your bet by a large margin, it should have been taken, but it wasn't taken. You check bet : it's been lapsed, not cancelled. You check match : no red cards, not even a yellow, no goals scored in period between goals, the bet SHOULD have been taken.

Why was the bet lapsed? This has happened to me before :( I've seen this happen in matches I've been watching (especially more obscure matches), all the bets are cleared by betfair for NO reason in front of your eyes.

Is this a lack of suspend operator training or something?

I started a thread about the new suspensionless wiping of football markets earlier this week.

It appears to be a new method of managing in-play markets but is totally random, some matches still have suspensions while some don't.

I've contacted BF about this but am still to receive any reply.

It's not a cosmetic complaint. If it's a lay for example as you've taken a position and put a lay in play as things are going way you hoped, it could conceivably cost you significant money as the lay, through no fault of you or the way the game is playing out, is not taken. If you viewed betfair as a computer program, this would be a significant 'bug' - that surely needs fixed.

@justchecking - surely you'd expect the bet to lapse on the second goal being scored, unless you've ticked the 'keep' option?

all part of the new improved service funded by the nice pc charges

longbridge no. What I'm saying is goal was scored, odds went to X. I set a lay at odds a bit below X as I then expected the odds to come down, which they did. I came back and goal had been scored, a fair time after the first. The odds had went straight THROUGH the place I'd layed, by a large margin, clear as day on the graph, and had hit (X - shedloads) THEN the second goal had went in. THe reason the bet wasn't taken was it had been lapsed at some point between me laying and the odds hitting the lay value. Having seen bets clear inplay for no reason when I've literally been watching them, it's fair to guess that's what's happened.

Just did it again. 5th minute of Netherlands v Moldova, no goals, no reds (not even a card):

All the bets just cleared for absolutely no reason.

Why is this happening? If the betfair inplay operators don't know what they're doing, why are they being allowed to manage live matches? Confused

Was you watching the match, maybe offside goal and suspend monkey too fast for his own good.
Report Just Checking • October 7, 2011 8:30 PM BST
I was looking at  the "odds", literally, as they cleared. Assumed a goal. What was wierd was unless I missed it there was no noticable suspend period, they just cleared.

Betfair can't argue it both ways. If you complain that they take ages to unsuspend after a goal, they'll tell you that it's because they need to get confirmation from their official source a goal has been scored. Yet they'll clear the odds mid game for no reason, when obviously no official source has said anything. More than a bit contradictory. So why are they waiting on confirmation if they'll just act as if something has happened without it? We get the short end both ways.

I commented on a thread (**** game) that I didn't see a sus for a goal and I had match odds open, was told it did sus, clear, then unsus, quick.
I presumed it was all done between the 20 second auto refresh.

if they lose the data feed for a while they will suspend. if the loss of feed is for a significant length of time then they will cancel unmatched bets before unsuspending when they get the feed back. this is to avoid bets getting hoovered if the length of time might cause a significant change in odds

Just happened again. Goal ruled offside, bets already cleared.

Betfair have gone from one extreme to another - instead of waiting for kick off before cancelling bets and reopening the markets they do it before the goal has even been given!

Surely they should have a consistant method.

Sounds like they start behaving like the highstreet in-play. I don't even see a reason to suspend football markets when goals are being scored/ red cards are given and so on.

People are expected to manage their positions in every other sports on their own. Why not for football games?
Report flatliner • October 17, 2011 7:04 PM BST
There are in play unmanaged games and they get very little money in them after KO, who want to be hoovered?
Report Just Checking • October 25, 2011 8:18 PM BST
Just did it again in Hoffenheim v Koln. Cleared all the bets for a yellow.
Report bingo bongo • November 1, 2011 8:03 PM GMT
And again, bets cleared for another offside goal in Forest match.
Report bingo bongo • November 3, 2011 6:29 PM GMT
+1 PSG match, another offside goal I think.
Can't help wondering if there is a reason why bf want to reopen the markets so quickly, maybe because if they want to start betting themselves to ensure they are first in after a goal?
Report Just Checking • November 19, 2011 3:11 PM GMT
Did it yesterday, just did it in Birmingham game.

Do betfair not realise this sort of nonsense scars money out of the markets and costs them money?
Report bingo bongo • November 23, 2011 4:26 PM GMT
Bets have just be cleared for a shot which went 2 feet wide!! Getting a bit silly now.
Report Just Checking • November 27, 2011 9:37 PM GMT
No content with wierd suspends, the person doing the Marseilles PSG game has just .. you guessed it

- cleared allllllllllllllll the bets for absolutely no reason.
