Thread on the horse forum a couple of months ago, started by Duketurtle i believe, saying he had been closed own by them, about 25 others replied to say the same had happened to them within the previous couple of weeks. Though i had an account with them i thought nothing of it, as had not used it for months, and had hardly made much money with it. Now just checking the e mail account i used for VC i see i had the same email at that time:
We are contacting you today to advise that a business decision has been taken by our Senior Traders and I must inform you that betting Account Number 3****** has now been closed and no further business may be executed on your behalf.
The balance of this Account now stands at zero.
As explained in our Terms and Conditions, a Traders decision is final and will not be over turned.
Of course you can't access your account history at all once this happens, but checking bank statements i was just over £50 in profit with them .Account was opened last year.
Looking it up there are threads on many betting fora over the last couple of months, they must have closed thousands in a mass cull of everyone who wasn't losing.Bookies have said previously this sort of thing is selective and related to betting patterns and Arbing or how much and consistently the customer was taking them for. Now it seems anyone who makes even a penny profit to begin with, if they show no signs of giving it back in the next 6 months , will be shut down.
I had a losing account closed last week, taking my total of closed accounts to date up to 9 - there is one that remains open though which is currently in profit but I am awaiting the email of doom.
The answer to your question though is, I suspect, yes.

We wish to inform you that we will be changing the way we administer Special Offers to your sports betting account. As you are aware, Boilwarts.com provides extra value for its customers through regular promotional offers such as Cashback Specials, Best Price Guaranteed and Free Bets.
After a review of your account we have decided that it will no longer benefit from these and other gestures classified as ‘special offers’. Accordingly, we must inform you that this change is effective from 10th September 20
from boilwarts.
Thanks for that, although seeing as you limited me to 50p bets, I don't think this email was necessary.

I just checked my VC account. It still seems to be open although the balance is 0.00, which is how I left it in 2006 - the last time I used it. I can't remember now why I stopped using it. I know they pissed me off about something. I think it might have been a poker promotion of some sort which I'd taken them up on and the site crashed just as I'd started using it which somehow cancelled my participation in the promotion and they wouldn't reinstate it. Something along those lines anyway.

I'm still going strong on Lads and Chandler despite consistently winning. I'm no mug, not just getting lucky. I'm closed on SJ and restricted everywhere else but those two are fine.

Lads aren't bad at all. They do it sport by sport (or have for me). I'm effectively shut on 2 or 3 sports but they are very accommodating on others. Also, my account was dormant for a good few years but when I used it again I'm almost certain some limits had been reset.
Others aren't always as bad as people make out. Probably because people like to make out they're big winners when they're not. Of course some are terrible but I've had fairly good runs over the years on Crls, 366, PP and Boyles. My latest Tote account is reasonable enough for my purposes so far too. Sky actually used to be okayish but have changed policy now. SJ actually used to be the best believe it or not.
As always, depends on what you bet and how you bet it. One problem most people make is they can't resist having "red flag" bets. You've got to pass on good bets sometimes. And I've said it before, occasionally a firm does accommodate you to a level to make it worthwhile for both parties.
I'm not defending the majority of bookies. But if you play the game relatively fairly you've got a better chance with some.

Bookmakers are purley parasites that prey on mug gamblers as opposed to exchanges that prey on succeful ones
betfair is preying on mug (fish) punters...betfair need to kiil off smart punters , so that betfair eat on the fish (mug) punters them self

VC stopped me having b.o.g last week and i have only had 10 bets with them over the last two weeks and sportingbet i closed myself last week when i only wanted £20 on a 2/1 and they would only let me have £1.99

I think that bookmakers generally will never be able to match exchanges for the kind of service that exchanges can provide, both exchanges do have limitations for pro punters now for different reasons but there should be better competition in say a couple of years time so then there will be a true fight to provide the best exchange service all round, and if there is capitulation to lower to the standards of a bookmaker this will fall straight into the hands of the exchange that keeps the model as pure and intack as possible, failure by both exchanges would hand the future monoploy to any new exchanges but again this would take ages to mature as exchanges do take ages to build up there liquidity, interestigly I wonder if there is a way to create a new type of exchange that can provide liquidity without risk via some mechanism and only take a comission thus short-cutting the slow initial growth that exchanges suffer from, in fact this I feel would make for the best type of model and would probably if engineered correctly reign supreame.

I had my account closed after one bet. It was a loser £1k on an 8/11 on a test match. They would not give an explanation other that it was the senior traders decision.

aljohnson, They probably closed your account because they reached there expected target for profit from average customer and didn't want you hanging around to get a winner, dont know why most bookmakers are using the internet, they should go back to hanging around hi-streets preying on joe public.

365 closed me down after if memory serves me correctly 12 bets all of which lost but to be fair if I were them I'd have done the same - probably after 6 of them.

i always wonder why the bookmakers dont adapt a blended exchange "ecosystem" [;)].. they can make the rest of 18.01 in ur example open to others to lay.. punter is happy, VC trader is happy and layer is happy.. instead of losing customers they should become bookie-exchanges where they decide prices and have the first chance to lay.. rest is for exchange run by them.. stupid idea ??

either a) arb b) late or c) one of many a/cs u have - cos they may not be the brightest in the world but if someone has a grand on a genuine 8/11 shot they don't get closed

If you worked as a trader for said company and your job was to make money and you kept seeing said person having these winning bets what would you do? Keep laying then lose job or close/restrict accounts. I used to love betting with seangraham as they were poor same with bwin. I had 1 basketball bet with Bsq (£25 at 4/5) think line moved from 7.5 ended up 11.5 and now im done for. SJ allows me to win £50 I think.

Pinnacle 5dimes ...are real bookies. They trust their odds-compilers and let you on for decent amounts (esp. Pinny).
Your British "bookmakers" are simply not bookmakers. They don`t trust their own odds and only want losing mugs to play w/em. A disgrace - perhaps the worst in the world

True raps but using bookmakers openly via accounts is asking for trouble, equivalent to using the cartoon channel to study for a university degree, not recommended at all, stick to exchanges.
