I notice that the place market for the first race today (14:00 Chep) seems to have bets of 1p on all selections placed at 1.42,1.44, 1.46 and 1.49.

Is that allowed? Who's policing things?

You can lay at anything sub 1.49 for 1p potential gain and zero liability but it is "minimum bet abuse" and, in theory not tolerated.

A lot of the time it's because of hidden 1.99 bets just in front of the best available price.
They're always there, every day, every horse, every market, back and lay, wherever there's a gap between the back and lay prices.

If your bet's next in the queue and someone takes 2.00 of it, they'll get the hidden 1.99 and 1p of your money.

It's not always 1.99. A lot of the time it's a bit less, which may well be 2.00 euro bets which don't show up if your account's in pounds (I think).

In Oz they will take bets below the $5 minimum very seriously - believe me - even though bf promote something like 130 applications that can all bet below the minimum on their web site. [>o]

We can all bet below the "minimum" if youre doing it manually it just takes a little time. . . .

Think I read on here that someone abused the 'laying a penny @ 1.49' on loads of accounts.
BF caught them, but i don't know if they received any 'punishment' so to speak

What do they do then?

the one that really ticks me off is people taking several nibbles of a sub 1.49 bet, each of which results in a liability to me but no gain.

theoretically they could presumably take the whole lot like that.
