A lot of the time it's because of hidden 1.99 bets just in front of the best available price. They're always there, every day, every horse, every market, back and lay, wherever there's a gap between the back and lay prices.
If your bet's next in the queue and someone takes 2.00 of it, they'll get the hidden 1.99 and 1p of your money.
It's not always 1.99. A lot of the time it's a bit less, which may well be 2.00 euro bets which don't show up if your account's in pounds (I think).

Think I read on here that someone abused the 'laying a penny @ 1.49' on loads of accounts. BF caught them, but i don't know if they received any 'punishment' so to speak

the one that really ticks me off is people taking several nibbles of a sub 1.49 bet, each of which results in a liability to me but no gain.
theoretically they could presumably take the whole lot like that.
