The charges for both gas and electric in the uk are now due to go up drastically this winter and even now some have raised there rates, is now the time to turn to water to increase our personal liquidity
1....entertainment, well pcs, tvs and dvds wont work on water but how about a 42" fish tank, wall mounted with some really Technicolor fish in it, just think no adverts and no soaps, well fish don't like soap so please dont try that. How about a fountain and swimming pool smack bang in the living room, perhaps powered from a water wheel attacted to the drain pipe to harness all this energy from global rain.
2....lighting, this could be achieved with some candles floating on the water in the now installed swimming pool in the living room, perhaps sprinkling some biol-luminesence mixture in the water will brighten things up
3....cooking....well you can boil things in water thats one good way, heating the water may be a problem but maybe raw fish will have to supplement or diet from the tank or a few shoals of sardines in the pool will keep us diving for snacks!
4....Music .....well some water music or the sound of a cascading water fall would be very good for the Karma
So you see there is no need to pay these increased charges as there are cheaper alternatives that are greener and if it was good enough for the roman aristocracy to lounge around in water baths all day then its jolly well good enough for the British.
If this new change of lifestyle isn't for you I suppose you could just pay the increased charges but for some why should you when clearly the energy companies have a monopoly on the good living that we all enjoy, is it time for action or is the thought of a watered down service provider not for you, would you be quakers to change your lifestyle?
The energy companies aren't the problem, the government is the problem.
Increased energy bills (20% +) are a direct result of the ridiculous demonisation of harmless essential carbon dioxide which started with the great man made global warming scam.
The power companies are being stung by the government for huge payments under the con of carbon permits (you couldn't make it up) and so obviously will pass that charge on to their customers under the guise of increased overheads. You will be paying 20% extra for the con of saving the planet, the government makes a mint, and harmless carbon dioxide emissions remain exactly the same. Great con!

Between 1940 and 1970 the earth actually cooled down. If we are to believe global warming believers then mechanisation and consumption must have been slowing down during those years.

Australia is going through all these problems. All utilities have gone up through the roof and a 'Carbon Tax' is to commence in 2012.
Cost of living is ridiculous.

They are passing the increase in costs on to customers. I fixed my energy bills on the house I own abroad for 5 years, and advised my mum to do the same. Here in the UK my fixed rate just ended though.

I think things like energy and food prices will see a long term upward trend over the next 20 years. Perhaps some new technology will come along to improve efficiency though.

Some very interesting posts about energy, My brother a couple of years ago was going to start a green business up based on fitting wind turbines on to homes to supply free supplemented electricity to house holders so he fitted one to his home, he got a good write up in the local newspaper and the prospect of cheaper electricity got him some free advertising form th paper.
Few days later a man cam from the council and instructed him that because he had no planning permission and councils are opposed for some strange reason to a windmill high up on a roof out of view.
My brother had to take the turbine down and gave up on the idea of fitting them to homes because of the current "closed door policy" on green wind turbines for homes
Well done British government for showing your real desire for green energy and increasing the energy companies grip on the British consumer

What really pisses me off and probably most other people in democratic counties is that although we have a choice on who we vote in for government, many governments in the western world make all the decisions behind close doors and mysteriously in favor of large corporations of business.
One only has to think of the stranglehold casinos have in the united states on the gambling rights of the average American that wishes to gamble.
1....no high street bookmakers allowed, but casinos allowed
2....no online poker sites allowed and many closed down recently by fbi , but casinos allowed to play poker
3....no online gambling of any kind except, wait for it, 888 secure the rights to online casino licences for some states,888 is owned by a casino compnay.
The average gambling American is in favor of all the above exceptions but of course the question is,is doing polls on all members of the country fair because what does the average American know or understand about gambling.
I hope our government keeps its greedy little paws off the exchanges and respect there marginal position in competition with greedy bookmakers and casinos when it comes to taxation of them.

We don't need heat and we can get away with minimal light.
The only thing, we really can't do without, is this thing we are sat in front of!
So, get wrapped up in layers of ski wear, and a big fur hat.
Light a few candles, and have a couple or three wind up torches, at the ready.
Eat cold food or have a gas BBQ, under cover, and cook on that.
So if we all did that they would be stuffed!
Well no, because the money grabbing, mercenary bast@rds, would find another reason to charge us.
Like putting up the standing charge, or some other devious tariff.
A bit like what happened with diesel fuel!
Time was, when a gallon of diesel was half the cost of petrol, and would do twice the mileage.
So, not happy with that, when a lot of people were moving to diesel, "they" decided to tax it on environmental reasons.
You could get an LPG conversion but, if enough people do "they" will find some other excuse to claw back, like putting a 75% tax on getting the conversion!
"Is everybody happy, you bet your life we are"!
