Just having a look at the early horse markets and via the history one thing that immediately strikes you is the number of 1-3k matches there have apparently been certainly in the first few races of this afternoon that I have looked at.  Yes I know they count the money differently but hopefully I have accounted for that correctly.

A  classic appears to be Brighton 3:00pm  History as I type shows only the following:

Royal Accademician  3.65 £8,110
Royal Majestic 4.6 £510
Grand Rapids 4.7 £8,351
Marcus Augustus 5.9 £590  4.1 £6,830
Counterglow - nothing matched as yet

BF's matched total over the whole race so far is 2,944

So on purple there have been apparently single significant matches on 3 of the runners, but when are these done and who is leaving up £2ks or similar to be matched or asking for 2ks that then get matched?

The currently money waiting in the markets on purple doesn't make sense compared to what has already been traded on this race, so what are they up to?

In fact this whole thing is obviously a farce as the pattern is repeated in all races.

Even the 8:20 at Sligo has already seen interest in 3 of the runners as one off bets, whilst BF not surprisingly as seen just 224 matched Laugh

Irish bookies?  PC exiles? Anyone who'd rather pay a lower commission?
Your talking like bf is the only exchange, Vis.

No secret that they seed their markets tho'.  As for matching their own bets, what's the point?

I guess to give the illusion that there is plenty of early horse activity over there, when the reality is they are even more barren than this place.

if you go thru all the races on a card

EVERY race in the morning will have roughly the same total matched within a few £'s which seems ....

Don't forget matched amounts there are calculated differently....

I tried betd@q during Goodwood as it's usually a minger of a meeting for me anyway. I certainly didn't get what I would have on betfair but it wasn't at all bad and that applied to the lesser meetings as well. I never thought I'd see the day I'd have 2.5K @ 7.0 at a Leicester night meeting on betd@q. As I rarely got anything that wasn't simultaneously available on betfair I often wondered if they were hedging the money back here anyway. More likely it would be bot users using both sites but not that it matters in any case. Put it this way, if everyone using betfair went through betd@q and they sent the money back here, betd@q would get all the commission and would owe betfair nothing as they'd end up breaking even on every market. It would obviously be pointless betd@q doing this but it does illustrate a shortcoming of betfair's commission system. I'm not saying I've stopped using betfair but I'm in the process of automating my betting and my betd@q experience was enough to convince me that this should be a dual operation.

As I was one of the people who defended the original pc (although never in the form it took), and I'm now hit with the charge myself, this may all seem a bit hypocritical to many of you. It's not the charge itself that's brought about this change of heart (the percentage increase for me is small compared to some), it's more down to the recent changes having finally convinced me we're dealing with s c u m. In the old days (when traders and cheats were practically using the site free of charge) I assumed I was dealing with naive, nice-but-dim, ex-city, delusional, half wits who believed the cr@p they were fed in their previous employment and who had unintentionally got themselves into a spot with their inadequate commission system and their parasite / cheat assisting interface. Maybe they thought all these artificially created "proffessional gamblers" were a good advertisement for the exchange (has that spectacularly backfired or what). When they first introduced the pc and noises were being made within betfair about winners being bad for them I actually thought a few light bulbs were being turned on and it would only be a matter of time before their thinking would be in sync with my own. Alas, these recent changes suggest they just don't give a sh1t and they're happy for it all to continue provided they get a bigger slice of the action. In fact, reading between the lines, it seems likely they'll be joining in the shell and pea fun themselves, maybe even creating a few new "edges" using their priveleged position. IMO it's also only a matter of time before government take a leaf out of betfair's book and start taxing exchange winners. With a bit of common sense betfair could run a fair exchange, cut costs, avoid user taxation and make even more.

Come the revolution I'll be prompting the revolutionary justice council to lump betfair in with the financial sector.

I imagine betfair seed many of their markets for bigger amounts than ****. Although less in relative terms.

@thesilverback

You must imagine BF lie to their regulator then, since they've explicitly said in the past that they don't seed their own markets.

Welcome to our world Feck.

Youre (for the most part) an intelligent chap, a bit barmy, but certainly smart.

I hope that you keep your new point of view.[;)]

Ok longbridge, I'll retract that as I don't believe they would lie to their regulators.

As you said though, they said that in the past. I wonder if they'll say it again.
