I guess the share price reflects this. To some it may smack of short term gain at the expense of longevity as the market leader and the de facto monopoly status they enjoy right now.
I wouldn't want Betfair shares because I believe this is the beginning of the end for them.

What a stupid stupid thread, now some geeks like massive think they understand the stock-market and that under 6 quid spells the end when in fact in means betfair can now buy back shares at a very much lower rate than they sold them for, brilliant, and with there stronger business model that modulates the winnings of the mega-users that take everyones money and run for free, I expect them to keep there exchange lead for many, many years to come, the duck pond has been around for 10 years now and still has less than 10% share in exchange customer market, with few products and much less markets they are the losers not betfair, GOM take a reality pill and finish the course

Shares are having a rough time now and will continue to thanks to Americas massive debt, the euro disaster isn't over yet and we are still in recoil from the credit crunch, perhaps GOM should study the form a bit closer before he writes off the leading betting platform in the world !

I dont understand Betfair price of share was seven pounds before new charge, why has share price not move up with all new money being made by Betfair? Is good news for Betfair I think.
bfananatic you are right the world is bad place at moment. Must be difficult for all company. Betfair is still best bet company.

what you havent taken into account is that nearly all companies that float or list as they say take a price battering for first year, then when they bottom out investors then come in, do movements in a price on the sporting exchange mean they have no chance of winning and will break down when they have been the winner for 10 consecutive years in the exchange race, I just wonder if your betting skills are as bad as your knowledge of stocks and trends, HMMM?

No real investor lumps on to a newly listed company after all its looking for a share in the liquidity of the exchange and that wont happen from old money, they prefer to wait and see and side step newbie listers especially from newer company types like sporting exchanges, early days .

There less than 1 years performance on the stock market is no reflection of there 10 year lead and dominance of the sporting exchange market or there perfect 10 year profit and growth records.

pc2 results havnt been disclosed to the market yet - so any adjustment due to that will hit when Q1 results are announced - assuming the market hasnt had a good guess first...

I suppose we do have one common denominator. We are all eternally thankful that BF came along in the first place. Bobman please don't mistake justification/understanding of a charge as meaning liking it. I would love to pay zero charges, not just no PC but no basic commission, but then I would also like to pay zero income taxes on my non-gambling income. Neither unfortunately is going happen for very basic economic reasons.

So shares going down for Betfair is great because Betfair can buy its own shares back cheaply, and shares going up is also great for Betfair because their shares become worth more.
What a wonderful world!

To anyone familiar with the cricket forum it's a bit like bigjoe backing India at 1.5 when they were winning and "topping up" on India at 200's when they were 50-5 and chasing 470. India are always a back. [smiley:crazy]
Anyway Betfair shares are currently trading at 592p after hitting their all time low today at 588p. bf fanatic must be happy because Betfair can buy even more shares at a cheaper price.

Why on earth would they want to do that if everyone thinks they are on the way out?
because that what betfair said they will do...betfair will buy 50mill in a share buy back...betfair told the market this last month
