I've only been in a bookies a couple of times, didn't like them at all, got the impression they were meeting places for doleys, alcoholics and desperados. But each to their own.

I Once went to an English "betting shop" and it was a desperate dive full of braying morons. It was so backward that they didn`t even seem to have computers - you had to actually write in longhand your bet on a bit of paper and wait in a line to get a bet on. No, this wasn`t 1968 - it was 2006!

An odds on card is just a cheap way(I think a 5 free bet for every 1000 of turnover)of monitoring customers a/c's to make sure there are no winners/arbers.I take prices(for trading purposes)in ladbrokes shops most saturdays or big meetings-not a hope wud i sign up for an odds on card.

Quite often they wouldn't be able to do it on computer anyway because they have no idea what bet you're having until they phone some guy who is slightly less dim than they are to find out the odds
