trev cant see how one can deduce the sexuality , occupation , or a whole list of other personal details
based purely on threads and posts that dont always go the way of bias and narrow minded opinion .

To clear the matter up I am male though how that will make any difference in my postings is probably only the interest of sexist ideology which in your case the word she was mentioned several times!

On that subject does the fact your forum name contains a male name evidence that you have a sexual
identity crisis or am I like you reading things that arent there, hmmm

Saint, I say you are taking up iz7777 chalice that my remarks that revenue is not the ownership of betfair as a mis-quote and in some way a mistake, well think how most businesses work, lets look at say a higth street bookmaker that is a single shop businesses rather like say my friend had, you have cash coming in, that goes in the till, you also have to keep a reserve to first set up in business lets say £20,000, who provides that ? certainly not fred who stumbles in from the pub and puts a fiver on the first favourite he can spot thats a short enough price!

In a small business it is known as cash flow and in a large business it is known as revenue
so both belong to the company, the money does indeed get mixed up in one amount and without cash flow or revenue a business could not operate weather the money comes from customers, the bank, or your rich favourite uncle its what keeps the company able to operate.

I can understand where your coming from though, an exchange is viewed as different to bookmaker in that the 2 account parties take the risk and not the company so it could be viewed as a direct contrat exclusive of betfair, but cant you see that the 2 parties never know each other as the exchnge handles everything for them and then requires a commission charge for doing the business work for them, all this is done through a fast (milliseconds) user friendly website or api product in the knowledge you are getting sometimes 101% over round so the best prices on the planet.

What more could you want to aid a winners chances, but that has created a unique problem, cant you all see that a core of regular winners is doing oh so well and keeps getting better at it so there taking more out the cash flow or revenues and there is less money coming in at the moment because
general dumb heads arent learning the benefits of an exchange and still keep using high street bookmakers, though all betting companies and companies in general are doing less trade because there is less cash flow in the economy currently due to the greed of the banks and we all know that story.

I will say one last thing, If you were the owner of a bot or a successful trader or bookmaker laying off at a profit or a prediction race modeler with a 30% edge and making millions every year off the betfair system, the best in the world, would you not be thinking gee how do betfair manage to keep supplying me with money, surely they must feel the strain,. surley they may charge me more commission because I take the most out the system!

so you see its a pointless arguement attacking the higher premium charge because its a needed
policy to charge people for what they make out of the system and  considering they dont pay tax on all the millions paid to just small percentage of the betfair community I cant see how they can complain, doubtless they will get better at making more money and betfair will still have to find more new money to pay them!

thank you for the clarification on the corporate policy

I was really shocked to read to other day that a bank's top 50 customers actually make more than the bank.  Surely there must be a way the bank can charge those customers, to get it's fair share.....Confused

Dear saint, although your referenced quote to my repeated claim that
"revenue [or money as you call it] belongs to the company ",may sound harsh or incorrect to say a forum reader or your good self, please make sure you add in future when quoting me that it was always used [check my posts] in the context that this applies in the same way that all monies deposited in a bank are under ownership of a bank until or unless paid back to the depositor.

I think you are angling rather cleverly that all monies placed in say a betting exchange always belongs to the customers irrespective of them paying a charge or commission that reflects the beneficial and advantageous service that the said betting exchange provides to different benefactors from the revenues involved.

!f you want to throw mud, please make sure it sticks!

so just to be clear bff, who owns the money in our accounts?
By:
bf_fananatic
When: 24 Jul 11 14:45
ah iz77778 now that is a different question when asking "who owns the money in our accounts", as is the questions "are betfair accounts ring fenced " and are revenues in ownership of customers of accounts, If we continually change a question to answer a problem then confusion will prosper to the aid of mistrust.

To answer your Question the money held in an account belongs to both parties that are involved with the account, the account being a virtual fiscal mechanism to hold amounts that cannot solely belong to either in outright ownership!

Answer the question ffs.
By:
saint-pilgrim
When: 24 Jul 11 14:50
The context was and is quite clear Mr. bf_.

adding to the question from iz77778: can you also clarify what your concept of revenue is?

This sounds fine: "In business, revenue is income that a company receives from its normal business activities, usually from the sale of goods and services to customers"

Bf receives "income" when a customer pays its commission. So I fail to see how the amount exchanged by bettors is revenue.

But following your muddy understanding, I will be calling my bank to learn if my money still belongs to me or they have also decided that it is not the case.
By:
bf_fananatic
When: 24 Jul 11 15:04
again saint I have never been directly asked by Iz7778 the question " can you also clarify what your concept of revenue is?" and challenge you to find when and where this was directly asked.

furthermore I have never implied that money in accounts does not belong to account holders[customers on the exchange or in your witful remark bank].

If only some of the same nagging and boring forum users were as good at understanding the need for charges in business as they are in the use of "red herring","diversion","demonetization" and calculated
bull s h i t, then other forum users would see the light that is bright at the end of the premium charge tunnel .
By:
saint-pilgrim
When: 24 Jul 11 15:11
It wasn't iz asking the question, so please

-- can you let us know what is your concept of revenue?
-- can you let us know if the above definition is wrong?

And you have implied that the money doesn't belong to the customers. Because you like quotes, let me quote you:

-- "To answer your Question the money held in an account belongs to both parties that are involved with the account"
-- "In a small business it is known as cash flow and in a large business it is known as revenue
so both belong to the company, the money does indeed get mixed up in one amount and without cash flow or revenue a business could not operate weather the money comes from customers, the bank, or your rich favourite uncle its what keeps the company able to operate."

(A small clarification: if the money deposited by Bf customers which is not "revenue" were to be considered revenue, then Bf is late with the taxes, because that money hasn't been declared as "income")

By:

When: 24 Jul 11 15:25
And because Mr. bf_ finds time for poetry but not to answer simple questions and because he contradicts himself, another two quotes (from this thread two) where he implies that the money belongs to Bf and not to the customers

-- I have estimated form the figures released that betfair may of paid out as much or more than £375,000,000 to the top winners on betfair in the last 6-8 years

-- From the revenues of the company via money deposited

We welcome your clarification on the questions posted above by me and others.

Thanks for answering my question that iz77778 didnt ask the question you said, and my challenge for you to find the red herring failed, posting  some of my other quotes that are part explanations to other questions  fails to draw me to any new question you may be asking.

the small clarification that you need regarding is income in the form of money placed into customers accounts by account holders classed as revenue pleas take up your nonsensical stance with the wider business world as it clearly states {in bold type below}in wikipedia my claim or as you like to call implication

In business, revenue is income that a company receives from its normal business activities, usually from the sale of goods and services to customers. In many countries, such as the United Kingdom, revenue is referred to as turnover. Some companies receive revenue from interest, dividends or royalties paid to them by other companies.[1] Revenue may refer to business income in general, or it may refer to the amount, in a monetary unit, received during a period of time, as in "Last year, Company X had revenue of $42 million." Profits or net income generally imply total revenue minus total expenses in a given period. In accounting, revenue is often referred to as the "top line" due to its position on the income statement at the very top. This is to be contrasted with the "bottom line" which denotes net income.[2]

give it up your just looking rather silly now!

bff - could you explain this, thanks -

(b) the wagering funds of registered players must be held in trust by the licensed provider (or by an agent of the licensed provider approved by the Commission) and must not be disbursed or otherwise dealt with except as authorised under this Act or as the Commission, by instrument in writing, from time to time authorises;

(c) for the purposes of paragraph (b), an account used for the licensed provider's Tasmanian betting exchange operations must –

    (i) not be used for any other purposes; and

(ii) be maintained with an authorised deposit-taking institution that carries on business in Australia, at a branch or office of that institution that is physically located in Tasmania; and

    (iii) be independently audited at least once every 12 months, and at such other times as the Commission may instruct;

Again, the money hasn't been received by Bf in exchange for anything, it is (or that's what the customers believe and the Gambling Commisision too) deposited for the customers to bet against each other.

And again, if Bf considers that "revenue" they haven't paid the appropriate taxes (please check the corporate accounts to see that the total revenue does not include the customer deposits, because if it did the total profit would be far greater and so would be the paid taxes)

We still welcome you answer: "To whom belongs the money deposited in the ring fenced account?"

Please Mr. bf_

-- can you let us know if the profit posted by Betfair in 2010 include the customer deposits in the revenue?

Quoting from above: "Profits or net income generally imply total revenue minus total expenses"
By:
bf_fananatic
When: 24 Jul 11 15:42
A company under general rules do not have to pay taxes on money held in a company in the form of "revenue" that is used as a general value of all money involved with the company including all money incoming to the company, check the meaning once again and understand that revenue is a word that has different meanings in different context, just like in your context you think its all yours!
By:
saint-pilgrim
When: 24 Jul 11 15:45
So revenue is variable. When Bf goes to pay taxes, the money belongs to the customers, but when it's about giving it back to the customers, it  belongs to Bf.

Can you please clarify your own comment: "just like in your context you think its all yours!" ?

Does the money belong to customers? (as posted by iz from the T&Cs: "the wagering funds of registered players" which in plain English seems to be: "the funds belong to the players")

there you go again chopping an pasting to get out of your corner, dont you know when your beat, no wonder a premium charge scares you so much as it makes you do something you cannot manipulate, perhaps you should thank your lucky stars you dont have to pay taxes instead of the premium charge or you wouldnt be able to keep hiding under your stone!

I think you will find jason has answered that question in the thread involved regarding your last question pilgrim [please check]. and that sort of thread should not be posted on any forum of a company that users use in there daily quest to make profit as you clearly do as it adds potential harm to a companies image that is detrimental to everybody concerned and  shall not take part in spreading false rumors and scaremongering of betfairs legions.

iz77778 if I could find some logical reason for me to constantly go round in circles answering the same questions from the same forum roomies then I would find some justification for all the time and brain horse-power wasted that could of been spent doing something more constructive like perhaps sharing some wisdom on here or praising the betfair megabeast or refining and defining issues that spread harmony amongst us all, please tell me you dont work for some high street bookies because if not you should do and thats in answer to some of you saying I work for betfair which I do not, I work with betfair as a customer seeking to win just like betfair and perhaps I still love betfair because I believe they have the best betting service on planet earth and yes I am a fanatic and If you were honest you would say you are too!!!

I will not answer the question are customers accounts or monies ring fenced as Justin Hubble, Head of Legal, Betfair.com has answered the question masterfully and in depth, and I think you are trying to get me involved in something that is the realm of legal persons of which I am not suitably briefed and anyway its none of my business to answer such a question!

certain persons are stupidly attempting to suggest that money is not secure on here when it is and trying to suggest that no-one can make a profit now because of a charge on persons clearly able to make a big profit and at the level that affords them much wealth even after paying the charge!
