hi Nairda, not sure of the figures, have you noticed if you can see any of the markets today for say racing, cant get them up on my browser?

I thought all the outages over the last few months were caused by Betfair   moving their servers abroad.

has anyone considered that betfair may face a huge problem and that is if there released information is correct and around 500 bettors have made over £250,000 from the site thats a lot of money paid from revenues, to estimate the amount paid thus far from the available information is difficult as the average amount won information is not available for this group but rest assured it will be much higher than £250,000, against those figures one would have to presume these are lifetime figures as indicated but some bettors will not of been on site from the start of bf so another hidden variable that will cloud the betting groups average profits, so to calculate lets use some estimated as well as released known data.

so now we arrive at a figure of 500 x 3 x 250,000 which is an estimate of 375 million pounds paid out over the last 6 years or 62.5 million estimated loss in revenues.

this figure is quite large for a company that makes a small margin on its turnover and may be a huge risk to the companies long term stability if the trend is on the up in that the more successful players are having an increased share in all transations(bets) thus having a bigger effect on profits.

only betfair will no the true figures but rest assured it will be a huge sum of money and if you were them what would you do to plug the ever incresing hole in revenues created by the eleite bettors on the site.

p.s. above the £62.5 million figure is per annum estimated  by me paid out per annum to the top bettors

bf-fanatic, if you are betfair employee, then you will know that one person took out £7,000,000 last year, over 6 years thats £42,000,000.

I have it on good authority that 3/4 "persons" provide 80% of liquidity on here.

Instead of focusing on the the top 500, concentrate on the top 3/4.

betting quant i am not an employee , your revelation is new to me but i did say some earners may be earing quite big, my estimate is for all the over £250,000 band, its a combination of all the top players that will be adding the liquidity, not just 3-4, that amount of players if the only ones playing wouldnt last long on there own, they can only work against the rest of the users on the site, to assume there importance in liquidity fore fits there need for the compnay to place some control on the amount they take from the system against betfairs costs to allow them amd others to operate is nonsense.

if this is true (and i belive it easy true)  this group of 500 have alot of money that could move to another bet ex and seed those markets

Yeah, but who put that 375m into the exchange? Clearly not the guys who took it out, so who cares if they leave?

it can only be the winner seeding exchange markets, it can't be the losers

to assume that business minded pro gamblers are going to drop out of a market that they still make money in is along the lines that they will throw there toys out the pram, they will probably seed lesser exchanges to offset the charge as well as increasing there activity over more markets and bet sizing, thats why a 60% figure will take into account the fact that there will be an increase not decrease in betting activity to offset the charge so the real effect of the premium charge for betfair will stabilise at between an effective 40-50% mark!

Betfair Advertisements with Annette Obrestad Banned by ASA

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an email advertisement sent out by Betfair Poker which features young poker pro Annette Obrestad. Online gambling advertisements in the United Kingdom are not supposed to feature anyone under the age of twenty five and Annette is the tender age of twenty one.

Betfair Poker sent out an advertisement via email to customers who registered and confirmed they were over the age of eighteen. The ad featured a picture of Annette and stated “online experience is measured in games, not years. Join the new breed.” The ad also mentioned Annette-15 which is Obrestad’s online name.

A complaint was received by the ASA so they checked into the ad. The complaint stated the ad was irresponsible because it could encourage young people to gamble. The ASA had this to say about the advertisement:
“While we accepted the ad had not been deliberately targeted at young people in its distribution, we also noted the code stated that marketing communications should not be likely to be of particular appeal to children or young persons, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture.”

The ASA stated that Obrestad’s ‘handle’ online made it seem as though she is younger than she is and that could encourage young people to gamble, hence making the advertisement irresponsible. So the ASA ordered Betfair Poker to not distribute the ad in its current form and to keep anyone else under the age of twenty five from appearing in advertisements.

In their defense, Betfair Poker stated that they did not believe the new advertisement encouraged young people to gamble. The company stated they take all the measures necessary to prevent young people from gambling on their site and they use a dedicated team to verify the age and identity of their customers as well as other methods to keep youngsters from using their products.
Betfair Poker also stated that Obrestad was used in the ad for her skills as a poker champion and now her potential income from sponsorship deals would be restricted since she will be unable to appear in marketing material in the UK until she is over the age of twenty five.
