As the horses finished so far to one side, I’m afraid a mirror image is not available.
However, by looking at the image you can clearly see that they stride for stride, with both the horses and jockeys in almost exactly the same position (please note the far side horse’s rear is slightly further forward than the near-side one, and yet you can’t see his nose in front which would certainly indicate a dead heat).

Looks like i was right about the mirror image unable to cover the full width of the track,so at all the tracks where the sprints come down the granstand side,or the jockeys come over for better ground there is no mirror print available showing the horses heads to help the judge,and if one horse is hidden behind the other,the judge will have to call the result a deadheat.Everyone watching the Newcastle ATR freeze could see it was not a deadheat,but the judge Mr Hargreave only had the view from the opposite side.You would get the same senario at all the other tracks where the mirror is on the granstand side such as Yarmoth Windsor etc. At all the conventional tracks the ATR freeze will be showing the same view as the judge,so we wouldn't know if the judge is wrong in calling a deadheat,when one horse is hidden by the other.This flaw in the "HIGH TEC" photo equipment needs to be looked at.The racing post,ATR,and RUK don't seem to be interested going by the lack of coverage the
70k Newcastle 1.01 deadheat recieved.Mabe if Chappers had been on instead of Boyce that day more would have been said about it at the time.How many other deadheats have had no mirror print available ?
